Maybe trying to avoid Ukraine's air defenses with fancy missile trajectories, like U-turns for example. Ukraine would be expecting most Russian missiles to come from the east, not from the west. They used to come from the south too, before Ukraine sunk 20% of Russia's navy, but Russia kept moving their remaining missile launching ships so far from Ukraine that I don't think they are as useful in missile attacks on Ukraine any more.
