we drop into and out of these periods the naughty 90s the swinging 60s but they don't stick around for much longer than a decade,

you can even come across it in the deeply religious periods like the Christian ranters of the 1640s1650s who adopted the Indwelling Spirit approach but in such a way they liberated themselves from all legal and moral constraints thus sin (fornication/theft etc) all became sacraments, free love 1640s style for spiritual liberation.

the issue for us as societies is how much damage is done when the pendulum swings back the other way as it always does.
