Is that a joke? If you ask the people that make olive oil, "extra virgin olive oil" is a waste product.

It is the first part of the first press. It is the part that cleans the machinery out. They use it as a lubricant or burn it.

European extra virgin olive oil complies with IOC standards and is the highest rated olive oil available, it certainly isn't used for lubrication or fuel.

Canola oil shortage, whatever. It’s bad for your health anyways. That and vegetable oil which is really Soybean oil, also bad. The good stuff is olive oil. Real Butter too.

No joke, i imagine it was just a preference.

Just something i was told many moons ago beyondknowledge.

I dont use the stuff much myself aside from on salads if im honest.

As to the panic or bulk buying of products leading to a larger shortages, i tend to agree.

When I was very young I remember an oncologist saying don’t ever heat/cook olive oil. It stuck with me, I only use it in dressing or in room temp dishes.

LOL, why? Some propagated myth about how it changes the chemical composition? If you've eaten any Italian food you most likely had 'heated/cooked' olive oil in it.

Additionally, Southern European countries who typically use mostly olive oil have appreciably lower rates of cancers than the US and our fatty fatso diet of using trash like canola and other hydrogenated oils.

Italy looks pretty smack in the middle when it comes to cancer.
Yes they are much much better than the US but still lag behind a lot of other countries.

Buy lard and butter and olive oil.
I don't really like vegetable oils and forget margarine .

Flour should be pretty high on the list too.

I made pancakes for the kids a few weeks back coz it was "Pancake Day".

Went to put the bag of flour back and noticed its use by date was 2014.

Tasted fine all the same and the kids are still all tickety-boo.

Italy isn't the only Southern European country and they are all lower than the US.

Your kids only get pancakes every 8 years?!!!
Becareful with very old/expired food, flour isn’t too dangerous but food poisoning is very serious. Most people have had just slight stomach upset, but real food poisoning like ecoli or salmonella is nothing to mess around with.

Nice!

You are right on about Olive Oil instead on Canola along with Lard Arse.

Wife and I all in on Olive Oil for 20+ years. Still eat meat now and then but finally figured out how to cook salmon on the grill. I do a pre cook in olive oil, marinate in bourbon and dill in an aluminum pan cook in covered grill @ 400+ degrees ~ 7 minutes.

Then spray the cooking grates and sear the fish for 30 seconds each side. Looks tastes and smells excellent.

We have also morphed into eating a somewhat diabetic style type of diet even though we aren't diabetic but once you look at the labels for sugar on the stuff they sell holy sheet. Especially one can of regular soda pop blows your day off the map for sugar. We also dropped diet pop as I read it affects the amount of magnesium that your body needs

Last time i tried to make pancakes something went wrong with the blender and the stuff inside came shooting out from the sides.

it shot right into a wall outlet.

Wich caused a short circuit and whole house goes out of power.

Standing in the dark , the priority was to re-establish power and lights.

So without thinking i threw the blender into the kitchen sink , quick solution , but terrible choice i found out later on.

The flour got hard and expanded within the piping and clogged it to a point i ended up dismantling the whole sink and cleaning all the parts with a high powered washer.

Real kitchen prince here

Why are you putting pancake batter in a blender? That only stiffens the gluten into becoming more dough-like.

We bought a Jack Lalanne Juicer around 10 years ago. Kept it for about a week. I think it cost $200. God Darn thing would get plugged up with the pulp and start slinging sheet all over the walls of the kitchen.

So the 2nd time I took it outside and it did it again. As per their instructions.

Piece of Sheet.

Buttermilk pancakes use a wooden spoon.
It’s ok for it to be a little lumpy.

It seems that along with the Ukraine and Russia, we are in for a world of hurt with regards to Canola oil.

You're in a world of hurt if you use canola oil to begin with. But then again, look at the lard butt in the video.

Agree all day with this!
