LOL. No idea on the science aspect of such testing, but I do know from Naval experience after spending months in drydock hell, then taking the ship out for sea trials. A couple of tests called "crashbacks" where the ship is running at 20 knots and then reverse the props at full power. The whole ship would shudder and shake (including you) like in an EQ 8.0 and then full power forward, followed by high speed zig-zag maneuvering. Back in port the inspectors would come aboard and check for any cracks within the inner hull while divers would do the same. No cracks. If any cracks, back in drydock hell you go. The ship I was on did suffer serious cracks after going through a CAT4 hurricane. Minor worry, I slept above the waterline till we got back to port.

I think those Littoral combat ships suffered from military industrial happiness by cutting too many corners and too many parties involved in the construction along with politicians with their hands in the cookie jar.

Thanks to you and Caled for answering my question on the ships. Figured that someone would have an answer for me. It's cool how odds are somebody in this thread would have some kind of answer for me. Maybe someone else may be able to give us a more scientific method if we are lucky.

My original reason for making comments on ATS was about alternative energy. I have seen things first hand that will work and we still don't drive that H2 car my University built in the 90's. They have been wining 1st place when they drive it to an Alternative energy fair and their solar car idea.
