It seems about time to start a Russia Ukraine situational update thread to consolidate all of the important updates and info about this impending situation.
President Vladimir Putin ordered his defense ministry to despatch Russian peacekeepers to eastern Ukraine's two breakaway regions, according to a decree published early on Tuesday after he said Moscow would recognize their independence...

Have been reading multiple reports of this. Well, that was quick! Will this be seen as an "invasion" by NATO and the West? Is this report true? Time will tell. Russia always can say we didn't encroach on Ukraine since it doesn't recognize Donetsk and Lugansk as Ukraine.

Put these videos in another thread but thought I would put them here too. Really liked the first video where Lazerpig compares "Desert Storm" with the current invasion of Ukraine. I remember that invasion when I was a kid, watching it on TV, and being in awe at how easy Iraq fell to the allied forces. This was back at about a week after the invasion, March 2. It's interesting he says he pointed out about 6 months ago (but never uploaded the video) that Russia's military was in horrible shape...
And his recent upload from March 12, where he expounds on the war, and also gives a little speculation on where it may go.

I figure Russia has aout 2 weeks of fight left in them before logistic problems become too great for them to handle. Soon fuel and ammo will dry up and with that means food as well,. I can see a situation where the surrender or flee in mass. To some extent its already starting as ive seen videos of Ukranians finding all kinds of armor just left behind and were eing taken by ukraines army. I watched one video they took over 3 T72s just left by the road. Nice of Russia to supply the Ukrainian army.

MEDYKA, Poland -- While hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians flee their country, some Ukrainian men and women are returning home from across Europe to help defend their homeland in the face of Russia's invasion.
Poland’s Border Guard said Sunday that some 22,000 people have crossed into Ukraine since Thursday, when Russia invaded the country.
At the checkpoint in Medyka, in southeastern Poland, many stood in a line early Sunday to cross into Ukraine.
"We have to defend our homeland. Who else if not us?” said a moustachioed man in front of a group of some 20 Ukrainian truck drivers walking to the checkpoint to enter Ukraine. They came from across Europe to return to Ukraine.
National security adviser Jake Sullivan issued a direct warning to his Chinese counterpart Monday about the potential consequences of any assistance that Beijing might provide Russia in its war with Ukraine, officials said, following Moscow’s recent request for military equipment and aid.
The seven-hour meeting in Rome between Sullivan and Yang Jiechi, planned several weeks ago, took on added urgency as Russia’s war against Ukraine dragged into its third full week without any signs of winding down. A day after Russia launched a salvo of cruise missiles at a military facility near the Ukraine-Poland border, the United Nations estimated the total civilian toll in Ukraine at 596 dead and 1,067 injured, though it has said it believes that the actual figures are “considerably higher.”
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has Finland and Sweden concerned. The two Nordic countries have strategically valuable locations next to their larger neighbor: Finland has an 830-mile border with Russia, and Sweden overlooks important maritime routes through the Baltic Sea.
While Russia has threatened neither country directly since its February 24 invasion, Moscow's aggression has reignited debate in those countries about their security — including whether they should finally seek NATO membership.
Before joining the EU in 1995, Sweden and Finland were politically neutral. They remain militarily non-aligned, but they are two of NATO's Enhanced Opportunities Partners, the closest form of cooperation offered to non-members. They have participated in NATO's Response Force and frequently conduct joint exercises with the alliance.
Turkmenistan authorities have said the son of the Central Asian country’s leader won the presidential election after an unusual vote-counting delay, establishing a political dynasty in one of the world’s most tightly controlled countries.
Serdar Berdymukhamedov, 40, secured 72.97 percent of votes in Saturday’s election to lead the gas-rich country and succeed his father Gurbanguly, the central election commission said on Tuesday.
His nearest rival in a field of nine candidates was university official Khyrdyr Nunnayev, who won 11 percent.
There was an unexpected wait for the result, after authorities said on Sunday they needed more time to count the votes.
KYIV, Ukraine—Diplomatic efforts to end Russia’s war in Ukraine resumed Monday after a Russian shell struck a residential building in northern Kyiv, killing two people, according to Ukrainian authorities.
Russian and Ukrainian negotiators met by video. U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan was also meeting his Chinese counterpart in Rome after warning Beijing to resist what Washington has described as Russian calls for Chinese help in the war.
The video shows a Russian missile launcher sitting in the open. Suddenly, it is enveloped in a huge fireball.
Ukrainian officials say what looked like a video game was actually the work of a small, relatively cheap Turkish-made drone that has made a surprisingly lethal impact on Russia forces.
A U.S. defense official said Monday that Ukraine has made “terrific” use of Turkish Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles, which can loiter over tanks and artillery and destroy them with devastatingly accurate missile fire. The official said the United States is working to help keep the drones flying.
As Russia ramps up its assault on Ukraine, some pundits on Russian state television have advocated implementing hangings by court-martial in the country if Russia is successful in establishing control.
Speaking on Russia-1, a state-owned Russian television channel, one expert cited Russian President Vladimir Putin's "special military operation" in Ukraine that began on February 24.
The pundit, whose identity was unclear, repeated the Kremlin's line that the invasion launched by Putin is a "special military operation" to disarm Ukraine and detain leaders it claims are neo-Nazis. Ukraine and the West say this is a false pretext used in an attempt to justify the invasion.
"I would restore the death penalty by hanging through military tribunal," he said, noting that he believes some in Ukraine pose a danger to Russians.
"There are people in Ukraine who threaten Russian citizens and create a threat for us," he claimed.
"In my view, this is of utmost importance," he said.
According to The Daily Beast columnist Julia Davis, other pundits later agreed, while one of them noted that the constitution of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and the Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) conveniently permits the death penalty
