www.thetimes.co.uk...

"The warlord who runs Chechnya held a rally of an estimated 10,000 fighters who could be dispatched to Ukraine to take part in the invasion.

The servicemen gathered in the Chechen capital, Grozny, after Friday prayers in a show of strength by Ramzan Kadyrov, an erstwhile separatist rebel who became one of President Putin’s most loyal henchmen."

Scary stuff...............

"Addressing the uniformed men, Kadyrov, 45, said that fighters would serve in the “hottest spots in Ukraine”, and that he could muster 70,000 volunteers.

Video showed the Muslim fighters standing in serried ranks in a central square and crying in unison: “Allahu Akbar!”

check how russia fought in syria

Putin betrayed the US and coalition in Syria. US had isis cornered, backed off and decided to let Russia clean up. Putin did a double cross and ended up in bed with Assad. Their tactics in Syria for the job at hand were despicable.

nice misdirection, but i was talking about the technology and force used.

this "war" would be over already if russia wanted, but the cost would be much higher number of civilian casualties.

Hehehe. A bunch of fools who proudly identify themselves as Chechens and then have to mask up so their beards aren't evident will stand out like a sore thumb in Ukraine. The Kadyrovtsy will be re-classed as cadavers.

Back to my comment about prisoners. Mercenaries don't qualify for Geneva Conventions protections. The Ukrainians, legally, will have every right to execute by firing squad any captured Chechens.

Not a nice thing to do, but sending fanatical mercenaries because one's own army can't get the job done isn't nice, either.

Cheers

I can sort of see your point but at the same time you don’t keep sending troops into a grinder .
Russian supply lines appear very unstable
Air superiority is questionable
The resolve of many Russian troops appears to be waning
Planning seems to be limited to the higher echelons with units not knowing where they are or what they are doing .
If reports are correct Russia has committed over a third of their armed forces to this invasion ( that in most peoples opinions would not be classed as holding back )

See where you are coming from. regarding mercenaries. If Vlad incorporates them into his military then I guess its game on.

Standing out with their beards yeah k ow where you're coming from. Best bet for the Chechens buy a rook load of Jewish Ultra Orthodox outfits then they'll pass for local Jews with their beards. There's some religious site the Heredim love in south Ukraine, it got invented there or something. Send in te Chechens dressed in disguise as bearded Jews into that region locality and work the offensive from there

Question now is, do the Russians pull even more troops away from the Chinese border and/or borders with Islamic countries?

Roll the dice, Vlad-olini.

Disguises will no doubt be attempted.

But being caught in the wrong uniform or other clothing when one is a combatant is another quick trip to a firing squad. War is like that.

I would guess a Russian taken prisoner by the Ukrainians would have at least even chances of surviving the experience and subsequent captivity.

Chechen mercenaries ... not so much.

Cheers

Ukrainians appear to be following orders now.

Zelinsky made it clear what would happen if anyone did not.

I'm guessing ALL prisoners are getting the red carpet treatment after that.

Their National Hero DEMANDED it.

And made it clear there that are NO exceptions.

I'm not sure some of those hard core Chechen pro Vlad jihadists will give two monkeys being honest and realistic about it

You may be correct. Fanatics don't worry about dying. However. They die like everyone else. Allah, contrary to Islamic belief, doesn't play favorites.

I don’t think he can afford to commit more troops to the invasion . As you say it will
Leave his borders weak . I also belive he will soon need armed forces operating in the interior to quell
Discontent if things carry on . As another Vlad once said “ society is never more than 3 meals from chaos “ if the sanctions start to hit the working class then Putin could have big issues on numerous fronts aswell as at home .
China needs to
Keep the rest of the world on-side for its economy and I can see them Distancing themselves from Putin .
You just need to watch the footage of Putin in his office with his aides and assembly to see how uncomfortable they are with his requests , I wouldn’t be surprised if a coup wasn’t already being planned . At the end of the day Putin has put Russia back 50years

Sorry, can't figure out why the link can't be posted. Nevertheless:

They took the article down as soon as the plans to occupy Ukraine didn't work out that well... It's trying to explain the motives behind Putin's invasion and is calling it 'a new world for Russians.'

The excerpt:

A bit of translation:

Russia is restoring its historical fullness, gathering the Russian world, the Russian people together - in its entirety of Great Russians, Belarusians and Little Russians. If we had abandoned this, if we had allowed the temporary division to take hold for centuries, then we would not only betray the memory of our ancestors, but would also be cursed by our descendants for allowing the disintegration of the Russian land.

Vladimir Putin took upon himself - without a drop of exaggeration - historical responsibility, deciding not to leave the solution of the Ukrainian question to future generations. After all, the need to solve it would always remain the main problem for Russia - for two key reasons. And the issue of national security, that is, the creation of anti-Russia from Ukraine and an outpost for the West to put pressure on us, is only the second most important among them.

THIS IS THE REASON WORLD IS BANNING RUSSIAN PROPAGANDA MACHINE - PUTIN LOYAL PRESS.

Ouch, that's gonna leave a mark.

Meanwhile, Western firms are so frightened of this financial damage that Apartment 29 keeps threatening that we are literally just burning 10s of billions in russian securities.

Just completely abandoning all russian investments.

Told putin where to stick his offers.

Waiting for Apartment 29 to tell us again how we're only in this for the 'profits'.

Shaking in our collective boots I tell ya.

Shaking.

Step. By. Step.

Some interesting articles coming from the BBC News website at the moment.
This one is about Abramovich.

For those who may not know who Abramovich is;

Roman Arkadyevich Abramovich (Russian: Роман Аркадьевич Абрамович, pronounced [rɐˈman ɐrˈkadʲjɪvʲɪtɕ ɐbrɐˈmovʲɪtɕ]; Hebrew: רומן אברמוביץ׳; born 24 October 1966)[2] is a Russian oligarch, billionaire, businessman, and politician.

Abramovich enriched himself in the years following the collapse of the Soviet Union, obtaining Russian state-owned assets at prices far below market value in Russia's controversial loans-for-shares privatization program. Abramovich was a confidante of former Russian president Boris Yeltsin and current Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Abramovich is the primary owner of the private investment company Millhouse LLC, and is best known outside Russia as the owner of Chelsea F.C., a Premier League football club. He was formerly Governor of Chukotka Autonomous Okrug from 2000 to 2008. According to Forbes, Abramovich's net worth was US$12.9 billion in 2019,[3] making him the second-richest person in Israel, the eleventh-richest in Russia and the richest person in Portugal.

en.wikipedia.org...

Abramovich has long been known to have links with Putin and rumours continue to circulate that sanctions are imminent against him personally.

But this report suggests that Abramovich is at the centre of efforts being made to try and bring about some sort of peaceful resolution to the crisis.
Apparently Abramovich has links with various Ukrainians and along with several other oligarchs etc was approached to try and influence some sort of deal.
Abramovich was the only person who replied and since then has been working to try to make some progress.

Obviously I'm not sure how accurate this is or what Abramovich's motivation may be but if true then he can only be commended.

"I can confirm that the Ukrainian side have been trying to find someone in Russia willing to help them in finding a peaceful resolution," said Rodnyansky.

"They are connected to Roman Abramovich through the Jewish community and reached out to him for help. Abramovich has been trying to mobilize support for a peaceful resolution ever since.

"Although Abramovich's influence is limited, he is the only one who responded and taken it upon himself to try.
