I've heard a number of times over the years that Putin was interested in joining NATO when he was first elected. However, it never came to fruition because Putin didn't think Russia should have to go through the same process as every other country that applies.

That said, Russia was a part of NATO's Partnership for Peace program for a while.

Did you listen? Putin said he asked Clinton directly when and if Russia could join NATO as a full-fledged member, not a partnership program.

I guess I'm just failing to see the relevance of Putin's address to Biden or Trump. Maybe I'm missing something, but it looks like this has more to do with Putin/Russia than the US.

Ukraine isn't in NATO, and I hope they aren't allowed to join. So far the US has indicated we won't get materially involved.

So unless we do get involved, I don't see how the US "deep state" has anything to do with what Russia is doing/saying.

Even if we say Russia throws a total of a quarter million troops at them, they can still pull one out of every 10, assuming they're able-bodied enough & not more drunk than Russians, then they have 4 million of their own to do something with.

They can learn to do the right thing, and defend themselves. Solo, its their fight.

Unless they're really that bad off even in an 8 to 1 ratio. That is not an odds outcome I'd want to gamble on. Russia can have a crack then.
