According to Russian media Putin will recognise the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk giving him a way into Ukraine , Putin says Eastern Ukraine is ancient Russian territory , French President Emmanuel Macron has called an emergency national security meeting over Putin's decision.

What was expected is now happening.

"Ukraine is an integral part of Russia's own territory"

Russia isn’t going to stop at just recognising the breakaway regions.
Putin is saying Ukraine was a mistake by Lenin and he will right the wrong.
Worrying times.

Whelp, sucks to be a peon.

Hopefully we live another day... to slave and pay taxes so that some egotistical a-hole ends us later.

I was expecting the video to be about Ukraine, not a covid update.

Yes. The breakaway provinces will now start "cleansing" their territory of anyone sympathetic to the West. By "cleansing", of course I mean killing. Russian troops will be invited in by the now independent republics. If Ukraine tries to intervene militarily to stop the slaughter, they will be defeated by the superior Russian forces. If they don't, Russian occupation of the republics will be a fait accompli.

big country must protect ethnic enclaves in smaller country.

I read this and all I can think of is 'Sudentland' and 'Czechoslovakia'

talk about history repeating itself.

I don't care if Putin does go in and take all of the Ukraine. not worth a war.

so maybe I'm an appeaser.

The echoes from '38/'39 are quite chilling.

Hitler had to be opposed....he posed a threat to the whole of Europe and even the world.
Putin doesn't.

That may be little consolation to the Ukrainians.

I've seen too many British soldiers die in pointless wars that have achieved nothing.
I don't want to see any more.

Egotistical politicians on all sides play their games of power whilst money men and arms dealers pull themselves stupid over the prospect of making obscene amounts of money.....and as usual its the ordinary people in the street who just want to get on with making the best of their lives any way they can who suffer.

Its truly appalling that we are no further forward than we were 80-90 years ago.

So sanctions aren't gonna stop him, so do you want to send American troops? NATO troops?

Sounds like he feels threaten by NATO and US..
On the other hand we have NATO and US that feel threaten by Russia..

Perhaps it is time to stop being afraid, sounds like Putin want peace and not missiles pointing at Russia in his backyard.

Sounds like they all want the same.. why cannot they agree ??

Nevermind... Putin signing the declaration was to much, this gonna end badly.

Seems the address was recorded and the video now shows Putin signing the declaration recognising the breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk.

Now we await the response from the US and its NATO allies.

Chamberlain's stance was EXTREMELY popular, until it was too late.

For the same reasons as today.

I actually agree with Chamberlain's goals and strategy, both then and now, but I'm not at all convinced that it won't have the same disastrous results now as it did then.

THAT is the only difference between our stance on this issue.

Well that, and joe.

We don't have the ability to quickly replace him with a Winston.

And going to war with joe & current democrats is damn near suicidal.

For the entire planet.

Unfortunately, democrats have already put us in this position, and there isn't an easy way out of it right now.

I agree 110%

I'll say this Putin knows his stuff and he knows when and where NATO hasn't kept its word, I wonder if that comment about him asking Clinton, could Russia eventually join NATO? was true...

That's a noble hope but I fear the response will be more confrontational than that , more threats of sanctions to follow.

Looks like the only way to avoid continued military action is to partition off the regions in question. With the full knowledge sooner or later they will want a larger piece or they will subvert the opposition
