I'm not George Takei just plain old andy06shake.

I say if people require help, and medical assistance to survive, and as long as they wish to be helped, then help them.

Hippocratic oath and all that jazz.

You're going to need to repeat the question, I'm not trawling through 12 pages to find it.

Does he say that about smokers or over eaters as well?

I don't honestly know.

I don't think that it's ever been asked in an interview or anywhere that I could quote.

From context, I think that he'd probably be in favor of people having to agree to live a healthier lifestyle in exchange for certain things being paid for by the state, such as knee surgery where being obese can be a real problem. But that's just me putting words in his mouth.

I don't know what his position is on smoking.

Does 'the state' pay for surgery in Australia?

In the UK people pay into the NHS (it's taken out of wages under the heading National Insurance)......the NHS or government don't pay for operations.

The majority of funding for our NHS comes from the collection of general taxes, and 20% comes from national insurance, paid by both employees and our employers.

Then there is the income from people using NHS services as private patients.

End of the day it does not seek to make a profit and it provides a universal service.

God bless our beloved NHS.

Yes, here is the link you read and quoted:
www.commonwealthfund.org...

AaarghZombies states 'things being paid for by the state'.....

Do you know if he means the government?

In the UK every person is paying, to care for every person.

That's what the national insurance contributions and tax are all about, everybody pays, no matter what.

I'm not sure where AaarghZombies hails from, if its America or Australia, places with "states" it may mean a multitude of things.

I think that he was referring to the US Medicaid system, which is an extremely limited fallback service for low income families. I believe that what he was saying was that people who make responsible health choices should be rewarded by being moved to the front of the queue, while those who make poor choices should get only a basic service to stop them from dropping dead.

From what I understand, the guy is an old school leftist. Which means that he could believe in the concept of a "social contract". Which means that you get your basic needs covered by the state, but that the state expects something from you in return. In this case, getting all of your shots. On the grounds that tax payers money shouldn't be spent helping people who don't help themselves.

The opposite to this AOC style socialism, which is "All free stuff, All of the time".

Put up or shut up.

Nopey dope. No need. The evidence is there in plain sight. I can't help it if you're incapable of using a search engine on the internet.

I say if people require help, and medical assistance to survive, and as long as they wish to be helped, then help them.

Define 'require'. Define 'help'. Define 'medical assistance'. Define the limits - or are there any?

I have no problem with people helping others. I do it all the time.

What I have a problem with is people like you who believe they have the right to hire others to point guns at the heads of literally everyone and inform us that we have to pay to 'help' someone else who 'needs' it.

Hippocratic oath and all that jazz.

Interestingly, I've never actually read it, but your comment prompted me to do just that - the classic and modern versions - and am surprised to find that the one thing I was certain was in it - 'first do no harm' - apparently isn't and never was.

Also, the modern version could be read in certain ways to actually support the medical tyranny of big pharma.

Why am I not surprised?

I think I've made my felling's on the matter perfectly clear, i don't need to define anything for you as your mindset seems locked and loaded in place.

As to hiring others to point guns at heads???

Dont have a clue what your going on about there. LoL

I don't mind helping anyone that requires such and you should not nether, after all charity begins at home.

Where Hippocratic oaths are concerned, read whatever you want into whatever version you wish.

Doctors help people they don't hurt them.

How would i know why you are not surprised.

So, you can't "man up".

You just come up with more childish insults.

Weak.

Glad to hear it... I don't, but it's none of your business... and yes, it does, but do you know the difference between charity and extortion?

Doctors help people they don't hurt them.

Tell that to the families of the people that doctors working in hospitals murdered by refusing to treat them, then forcing them on ventilators at the earliest opportunity, and leaving them on it until they died.
