High-precision strikes of the Russian Aerospace Forces against a temporary deployment point of 66th Mechanized Brigade near Djerzhinsk in Donetsk People's Republic have destroyed up to 40 nationalists and 9 pieces of military equipment.

As a result of Russian Aerospace Forces strikes against manpower and military equipment concentrations of 63rd Mechanized Brigade of AFU near Belaya Krinitsa and Belogorka, Kherson Region, 35 nationalists and 15 units of armoured vehicles and equipment have been destroyed.

Concentrated strikes on positions of 53rd Mechanized Brigade of AFU near Sribnoye in Donetsk People's Republic have destroyed up to 200 nationalists and 15 pieces of military equipment.

More than 200 servicemen of 56th Mechanized Infantry Brigade of AFU have refused to perform combat tasks near Opytnoye and Pervomaiskoye in Donetsk People's Republic and voluntarily abandoned their positions due to heavy losses.

For example, the brigade's third battalion, which was operating near Mar'inka, had about 140 of its 580 men on its payroll.

Operational-tactical and army aviation, missile troops and artillery strikes continue against military facilities in Ukraine.

In the course of counter-battery warfare 1 platoon of Grad MLRS near Artemovsk, 1 artillery platoon of Giatsint-B guns, and 7 platoons of D-30 howitzers have been suppresed at the nationalist firing positions in Zvanovka, Kuz'minovka, Seversk, Pereyezdnoye, Vesyoloye and Vyemka in Donetsk people's republic.

Russian air defence means have shot down 2 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles near Lisichansk in Luhansk People's Republic, and Glubokoye in Kharkov Region.

1 Tochka-U ballistic missile over Lisichansk in Lugansk People's Republic and 15 shells of MLRS near Lisichansk in Lugansk People's Republic, Antonovka and Novaya Kakhovka in Kherson region have been intercepted.

Foreign Ministry statement on the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms

On August 8, 2022, the Russian Federation officially notified the United States, through diplomatic channels, of its decision to temporarily exempt the inspection activities from the facilities subject to inspection under the Treaty. This exemption includes the appropriate facilities at which exhibitions may be conducted under the Treaty.

These actions are envisaged in item 5 of Section 1 of Part Five of the Protocol to the Treaty. They may be taken in exceptional cases, and for purposes not inconsistent with the Treaty. The Russian Federation is compelled to resort to this measure due to Washington’s stubborn striving to achieve, without prior arrangement, the resetting of inspection activities on conditions that do not take into account existing realities and are creating unilateral advantages for the United States, and are de facto depriving the Russian Federation of the right to conduct inspections on American territory.

Our goal is to bring an end to this unacceptable situation and ensure the functioning of all mechanisms in the Treaty in strict conformity with the principles of parity and equality of the parties, as was implied when it was agreed upon and entered into force. At present, these principles are not being observed.

High-precision air-based missiles have disabled two traction power substations near Apostolovo and Sinelnikovo railway stations, Dnepropetrovsk Region.

As a result of strike of the Russian Aerospace forces on combat positions of 63rd Mechanized Brigade of AFU near Belogorka and Lozovoye in Kherson Region, 105th and 107th battalions of this brigade suffered losses of over 160 nationalists.

Artillery strike of the Russian Troops near Mar'inka in Donetsk People's Republic has eliminated over 70 per cent of 3rd battalion's personnel from 66th Mechanized Brigade of AFU.

High-precision weapons of the Russian Aerospace Forces near Andreyevka, Kherson Region, have hit command and control post of 3rd Battalion of 46th Airmobile Brigade, as well as the brigade's temporary deployment point near Lozovoye. More than 20 nationalists have been killed and up to 30 wounded.

As a result of concentrated fire strike on positions of 72nd Motorized Infantry Brigade near Artemovsk in Donetsk People's Republic, more than 50 nationalists as well as 6 units of military equipment have been destroyed.

After the nationalists retreated from their positions near Artemovsk, the Allied Forces uncovered direct violations of the Geneva Convention by the Kiev regime and its Western handlers.

On August 14, Russian servicemen found more than 50 French-made EMP F2 anti-tank mines at positions abandoned by units of 72nd Mechanized Brigade of AFU south of Artemovsk in Donetsk people's republic.

These mines, after being placed and armed, cannot be removed or defused. Their use is in direct violation of the requirements of the Second Protocol "On Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Mines, Booby Traps and Other Devices", part of the Geneva Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Non-Violent Weapons, adopted in New York on October 10, 1980.

Operational-tactical and army aviation, missile troops and artillery strikes continue against military facilities in Ukraine.

7 command posts, including those of 14th Mechanized Brigade near Soledar in Donetsk People's Republic, as well as 182 areas of manpower, weapons, military and special equipment concentration have been hit.

High-precision weapons have hit an ammunition depot of the 95th Airborne Assault Brigade near Slavyansk in Donetsk People's Republic, destroying over 3,000 122mm artillery shells, mines and over 30 nationalists.

High-precision strikes by the Russian Aerospace Forces against AFU manpower and military equipment concentration near Lozovoye, Belogorka and Belaya Krynitsa in Kherson Region, have destroyed over 40 nationalists and 10 units of special vehicles.

The enemy suffers significant losses.

In Soledar, during the recruitment of the 10th Mountain Assault Brigade of AFU, more than a third of mobilized citizens left their units on their own, leaving for an unknown destination. Brigade's personnel strength remains below 50 per cent due to heavy losses.

Statement of the Russian Defence Ministry spokesman

On August 19, the Kiev regime is preparing another provocation at Zaporozhye NPP during the visit of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to Ukraine, as a result of which the Russian Federation will be blamed for creating a man-made disaster at the power plant.

In order to prepare for the provocation, the command of Dnepro operational-tactical group is deploying radiation observation posts near Zaporozhye by August 19. Also, the command is organizing training exercises for units of 108th Territorial Defence Brigade, 44th Artillery Brigade and military units deployed in Zaporozhye on measures to be taken in conditions of radioactive contamination of the area.

Besides, units of 704th NBCP Regiment of AFU are to complete concentration in Zaporozhye area by August 19 and be ready for fixation of the accident at Zaporizhzhia NPP as well as for carrying out a set of measures for demonstration of supposedly liquidation of its consequences.

Units of 44th Artillery Brigade of AFU are planning to launch artillery strikes on the territory of Zaporizhzhia NPP from firing positions located in Nikopol' on August 19. The Russian Armed Forces will be blamed for their consequences.

Ukrainian leadership has repeatedly spread rumours that Russian troops have occupied the nuclear power plant and are shelling AFU with long-range artillery systems while shielding themselves with NPP.

We would like to point out that the Russian troops have no heavy weapons either on the territory of the plant or in the surrounding areas. Only security units are stationed there.

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are taking all necessary measures to ensure the security of Zaporizhzhia NPP.

The Russian Defence Ministry is analysing the development of the situation at Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

Since July 18, 2022, the station has been subjected to systematic shelling by the Ukrainian armed forces using multiple rocket launchers, artillery and unmanned aerial vehicles.

As of August 18, 2022, 12 shellings have taken place, during which more than 50 artillery shells and 5 kamikaze drones have been detected on the territory of NPP and Energodar city.

The Russian Defence Ministry conducted an investigation and established that the strikes were launched from the direction of Marganets and Nikopol' settlements.

The shelling resulted in damage to the station's auxiliary support systems as well as life support facilities in Energodar.

According to the Defence Ministry, the Ukrainian side, together with their US handlers, are trying to play the card by causing what they believe to be a minor accident at the nuclear power plant and thus disrupting the normal and safe operation of the plant, blaming it on Russia.

The Ukrainian side has repeatedly claimed that the Russian Armed Forces are striking at the plant and that Russian heavy weaponry is stationed at the plant, which is used to fire on the Ukrainian Armed Forces' facilities.

We are ready to provide the IAEA with real high-resolution images, a sample placed on a slide, which shows that we do not place weapons, much less heavy ones, on the territory of this station. The Russian Defence Minister told UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

We know that with a large number of military and commercial foreign satellites, the same information can be presented to the global public by the US side.

At the same time, the US is keeping silent on objective data about the shelling and the situation at the nuclear power plant, thereby encouraging impunity for the Kiev regime and contributing to a possible nuclear catastrophe in Europe.

I would like to note that it is no coincidence that the media widely quotes the conclusions of experts of the American Arms Control and Disarmament Agency (Washington, D.C.) and some other similar institutions of Western countries, rather than the IAEA, which is entitled to such conclusions, that a large-scale catastrophe at ZNPP seems unlikely to occur.

According to them, the concrete shelters of its nuclear reactors are 10 metres thick, and the plant was also designed and built to cope with incidents such as the downing of a civilian aircraft.

However, it cannot be ruled out that a direct hit by large-calibre artillery shells into a dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel would result in radioactive contamination of the area within a radius of up to 20 km, and an emergency situation at a nuclear reactor within 30 km at most. It is stressed that the risks of radiation spreading across Europe are estimated to be minimal.

Thus, according to US experts, the consequences of the nuclear incident at Zaporozhye NPP would be limited and would not affect the territory of European countries.

However, I would like to remind the UN Secretariat and the entire world community that the principal cause of the accidents at Chernobyl plant and Fukushima NPP, despite the fact that in the first case there were nuclear reactor experiments and in the second case there was an earthquake and tsunami, was the failure of support systems, disruption of power supply, partial and complete blackout of cooling systems, which led to overheating of the nuclear fuel and destruction of the reactor.

As a result of the Chernobyl accident, more than 20 European countries were contaminated with radioactive isotopes. Some 4,000 people have died from direct exposure to radiation, tens of thousands of cases of genetic deformities in newborns and hundreds of thousands of cases of cancer. Excluding the consequences of the forced evacuation, up to 100,000 people and more than 5.5 million people received an increased dose of radiation.

At Fukushima, only at first sight the consequences may seem minor. Up to 500,000 people have been forcibly evacuated in stages, and the consequences of radioactive water dumped in the ocean will be felt by posterity.

It seems to have been forgotten.

According to our experts, a similar situation may arise at Zaporozhye NPP because of AFU's actions.

For example, in case of failure of backup diesel generators and mobile pumps, in an emergency situation the core will overheat and consequently destroy the reactor facilities at Europe's largest nuclear power plant, releasing radioactive substances into the atmosphere and spreading them hundreds of kilometres away.

Such an emergency would cause mass population migration and have more catastrophic consequences than the impending gas energy crisis in Europe, as predicted by a number of European specialist organisations.

UN Secretary-General Guterres is also reportedly planning to visit Odessa city as part of his trip to Ukraine from August 17 to 19, 2022. By this date, the Ukrainian Armed Forces plan to hold a staged provocation of a man-made disaster at Zaporozhye NPP, which consists of a radiation leak, destroying the integrity of the nuclear waste storage facility and putting the NPP reactor into an abnormal operating state.

All this, according to their intention, should be a consequence of military action by the Russian Armed Forces on the territory of the nuclear plant, and incompetence of the Russian specialists involved in the operation of the nuclear facility.

For the purpose of staging, AFU plans to fully deploy radiation observation posts in the formations, military units and subunits deployed in Zaporozhye Region of Ukraine, which are part of the Dneper task force, to provide 100 per cent of servicemen with NBC protection equipment, conduct training on chemical and radiation protection and other safety measures for the visit of Guterres. In particular, units of 44th Artillery Brigade have been ordered to be ready by August 19, to act in conditions of radioactive contamination of the terrain. Units of 704th Separate Regiment of AFU's NBCP regiment are also being redeployed to Zaporozhye NPP area.

Artillery strikes are planned on ZNPP from Nikopol' city.

This "spectacle" will be accompanied by public warnings about rising radiation levels and other "special effects". The staging is being carried out in order to influence the UN Secretary-General and the international community to cover up decisions favourable to Kiev.

The ultimate goal of the provocation is to create an exclusion zone of up to 30 km, to bring international forces and foreign observers to ZNPP territory, and to accuse the Russian Armed Forces of nuclear terrorism.

As a conclusion based on the above, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that in case of continuation of negative development of the situation related to shelling of the nuclear plant by Ukraine, the issue of putting Units 5 and 6 into "cold reserve" may be considered, resulting in the shutdown of Zaporozhye NPP.

Allied Forces offensive in Kharkov Region on August 14, 2022 have defeated units of 58th AFU Motorized Infantry Brigade near Udy. Under pressure of the Russian troops, the remnants of the formation escaped from their positions and abandoned the populated area. To stop panic and intimidate AFU personnel, nationalists of Kraken armed formation shot 100 servicemen of 58th Motorized Infantry Brigade who had abandoned their positions.

High-precision weapons used by the Russian Aerospace Forces have hit temporary deployment point of Azov nationalist formation near Nikolaevka and Aidar formation near Soledar in Donetsk People's Republic. The attacks have resulted in the destruction of more than 50 nationalists, as well as 12 units of military equipment.

High-precision strike near Dorozhnyanka, Zaporozhye Region, has hit a weapons and military equipment depot of 65th Mechanized Brigade. The attacks have resulted in the destruction of more than 15 units of military equipment.

The Russian Embassy in the United States has warned that an unpredictable escalation and a direct military confrontation between the US and Russia are possible. What did they mean when talking about a direct confrontation and were they referring to nuclear strikes in this context?


Ivan Nechayev:

Russia has never engaged in sabre rattling, especially when it comes to nuclear weapons. However, the US and its allies have become actively involved in Ukraine by supplying Kiev with all kinds of weapons, including heavy artillery and offensive weapons, and these events have shown in all clarity that there is a real possibility of confrontation with the collective West.

As a reminder, even at the height of the Cold War, the leaders of our countries demonstrated maximum responsibility and caution on matters of strategic stability and international security.

Unfortunately, today, the ruling liberal and globalist circles in the United States, Great Britain and the EU are indulging in conversations on allowing a lower threshold for using nuclear weapons. In particular, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg talked about this in public in early 2022, as did several European leaders and President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky who is under their patronage. This goes to say that Russia is not the one who is making these threats.

As for Russia, we are committed to the principle that a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought, as set forth in the US – Russia Presidential Joint Statement on Strategic Stability, issued at the June 16, 2021 summit in Geneva. This message found its way into the Joint Statement of the Leaders of the Five Nuclear-Weapons States on Preventing Nuclear War and Avoiding Arms Races, adopted on January 3, 2022. This document also talks about the need to avoid armed conflicts of any kind between nuclear powers. We have no intention of backing away from these understandings.

Let me emphasise that Russia’s armed forces have modern high-precision conventional weapons at their disposal, enabling them to deliver on all the goals and objectives of the special military operation in Ukraine as articulated by President Vladimir Putin.

As a nuclear-weapons state, Russia will continue acting with utmost responsibility. A direct confrontation with the United States or NATO is not in our interests. Under Russia’s military doctrine, a nuclear strike can only come as a response to an aggression involving weapons of mass destruction, or if its very existence as a state comes under threat. This means that nuclear weapons can only be used in retaliation to an attack as a means of self-defence in extreme circumstances.

We proceed from the premise that the United States and NATO understand the implications of the aggressive anti-Russia rhetoric they have been fomenting with a focus on the use of nuclear weapons.

As a result of an offensive in Kherson-Nikolaev direction near Aleksandrovka, the Allied Forces have eliminated units of 28th Mechanized Brigade of AFU and reached the administrative border of Nikolaev Region. 36 square kilometres of Kherson Region have been liberated.

Komsomolskoye has been liberated, advancing 3 kilometres into the enemy defence in this direction. Territory of 12 square kilometres of Nikolaev Region has been liberated.

In addition, 35th Marine Brigade and 46th Aeromobile Brigade of AFU suffered significant losses near Andreevka. The enemy is dislodged from Blagodatovka and neighbouring populated areas.

The offensive in Donetsk direction is developing well.

The liberation of Mar'inka, more than 75 per cent of which has already been liberated by Allied Forces, is nearing completion.

The drone shot down by Russian servicemen fell on the roof of special building No. 1. Serious damage and casualties were avoided.

Shelling by Ukrainian troops of the city of Energodar located near the nuclear power plant does not stop.

Today, during the day, on the direct orders of Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukrainian troops attempted an offensive in Nikolaev and Kherson regions in three directions.

As a result of the active defense of the grouping of Russian troops, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine suffered heavy losses.

During the fighting, 26 Ukrainian tanks, 23 infantry fighting vehicles, 9 other armored fighting vehicles were destroyed, 2 Su-25 attack aircraft were shot down. Enemy losses in manpower amounted to more than 560 servicemen. Another attempt at offensive actions by the enemy failed miserably.
