Okay, I get it...they're all from the US, right?

We're done!

Have a nice day.

"ETA - No amount of laws will be good enough for you, will they? You just need more and more.

Where does it end? Where does personal responsibility stop, and government oversight (by the mighty fist) begin?"

Laws that remove killing machines from the hands of raving maniacs will always be preferable to the alterative.

Where does it end?

I suggest you ask the relatives of those poor six dead souls and little girls mother that question if you dare.

And by the way cheers for proving my point with my "Not my circus, not my monkey" rhetoric. LoL

Im sure as ever you wont be the first or the last.

I dont think you do get it.

Who's "They"? LoL

Im not done, even if you are.

But you have a nice day also.

Some things people just won't agree on, for the greater part guns are one of those things where Brits and Americans are concerned, and that's just the fact of the matter.

Crimes like this are incredibly rare here in the UK.
That's one of the reasons they become such a big issue.

No-one is advocating UK style gun control laws for the US - why must everything be about the US?

Do what you want.
If you're happy with gun crime being at the levels they are over there then that's entirely up to you.

The vast majority of people in the UK don't want more or less gun control, we just want existing legislation to be enforced as they should be.

I can assure you this nutjob wouldn't have had a #ing clue how to obtain a weapon like that illegally.

Now you might want to turn this tragedy into a Gun Rights issue just to try and push your own ideals and opinions but quite frankly no-one gives a # what you think.

I'm not sure that this incident requires any more bans, but it does raise the question of why the bloke had his licence taken off him only to have it given back due to an anger management course.

I think it would have been more reasonable to keep it from him for a couple more years and several assessments.

Have to wonder whom the alleged assault was against that got his licence and gun removed in the first place?

Chances are the case never went to court or he was found to be not guilty, because i cannot believe police are going to return firearms and a licence to a man with a criminal record for assault in this day of age.

There are certainly questions as to whether he was a fit person to hold a licenced firearm. But there are nearly 600,000 people in England and Wales who legally possess one. And this was the first such incident since 2010. So I would say that for the most part, our laws work.

I tend to agree the laws in place suffice where guns are concerned in the UK.

I dont think there is any question as to him being fit to own a pump action shotgun through AndyMayhew considering what he just did with the thing.

And its not like the alarms bells were not already going off considering the removal of the licence and firearm.

Computer says no on that score, that wee guy seems to have slipped between the cracks which is bad enough but to also be in possession of a legal shotgun when he did lose the plot, well look what happened next, 7 people dead including himself.

I suggest our lack of mental health services still leave a lot to be desired all the same.

I think it's pure evil, but I also think society, as a whole, just isn't prioritizing the things which matter the most, and it hasn't been doing so for a long time.

We really need to rethink a lot of things, and society needs to remember that the lives of babies and kids, as well as concepts such as motherhood, fatherhood and family, are the most important aspects of society (or should be). We just won't be able to have a sane society until then.

I don't necessarily disagree with most of that malvy.

What he did constitutes evil, there is no question there.

However there are questions as to why he was allowed to fall through the cracks and did not receive or seek mental help.

Then there is the fact that that Police returned his shotgun and licence only a month previous to the tragic turn of events after the Man in question was charged with assault and attended an anger management course.

As to a sane society, good luck with that, i don't think that's ever existed, if in doubt well see the greater part of recorded history.

I would think that anyone who has been made to do an anger management course should not be allowed to own a gun in the UK.

But that's just my opinion.

Your opinions spot on.

After all pump action shot guns and angry young men experiencing mental health breakdowns are hardly the best of combinations no matter which postcode they happen to find themselves, if we are honest.

Should never have had the weapon returned to his person.

Giving this person back a gun was evil.

If he didn't have a gun then 6 people would not be dead.

Unfortunately when the bloated bureaucracies get involved cracks are inevitable then we can only hope that those with serious issues don't fall through them.

As for mental health treatment, not sure about the UK but many people still refuse to believe they can have a problem, its always someone else that just doesn't understand them.

I am pretty pig headed but even I have gone I need to talk with mental health on base just to be able to talk to someone without being judged. But lots of people have a problem with opening up like that.

a reply to: Itisnowagain

Naw, Itisnowagain what he did was evil.

However him having the gun returned will most lightly turn out to be a oversight or mistake on part of the authorities.

I don't imagine they returned the thing so he could go on to commit mass murder.

I don't like Police Itisnowagain, but they are there to do a job, there not evil per-say, just rather incompetent sometimes and underfunded, which is plainly evident by the fact that this type of thing can happen.

Someone made a serious judgment error returning that weapon put it that way.

Totaly agree as to people being able to talk.

Probably worse over here as well as to people not being willing to engage with mental health services.

Its just not part of our ethos yet, where a lot of people are concerned, and still carries with it a measure of stigma from others as unfortunate as the case may be.

We are not exactly the most open of people imho, Brits that is.

There is progress being made but the fact of the matter is our mental health services are completely underfunded compared to the rest of our national health services, which are also on there arse if truth be told.

Hell of a predicament really.

Yall are in better shape infrastructure wise than us Yanks, we absolutely gutted our mental health facilities under regan.

Now its catch as catch can with big stretches of the country having little to no mental health professionals at all.

I wish yall better luck than we are having.

It's as much about trump as it is covid.

What's wrong with people who think everything is about the USA?

Five percent of the population and think it's all about them.
