Arizona....how that part of the world was ever settled before electricity, and fans....i'll never know.

I think people were tougher back then! I couldn't imagine it.

Stay hydrated everyone!!

We did a couple summers out in Kansas with no A/C before we moved up our lot in the world.

We did it because on top of having no choice, we also always moved into basement apartments. But you get acclimated to it after a while.

I imagine the earlier settlers of Arizona and the meso-American cultures had their tricks. For one thing, stucco is supposed to be cooler. I also imagine those big cliff dwelling complexes kept cool better than you might think between being in stone and being on the side of a cliff where they'd funnel through any air at all.

5000 PGE customers lost power due to the increased air conditioning strain near Portland.

www.koin.com...

Edit to add: looks like expected repair time will be 11:15 PM for most of the remaining outages after peak load drops.
Wonder if they will have rolling brownouts by Wednesday?

We set power use records last night, they figure more will be broken before it cools. Thankfully we have lots of hydroelectric, so no black/brownouts.

Oh
That could get dangerous.
Hope everyone stays safe.
Heat makes people do stupid things.

I kind of miss my old basement dwelling, ceramic tile floors, white house, stayed cool enough! I'm in a rancher now, the roof is just feet over my head, that pulls in mega heat. Hats off to the people who could figure out ways to live with it.

I'm in Seattle, its hot as all hell here... We had like 3 total days over 100 degrees over last 100 years, and this week, we are hitting over 3-4 times, up to 108 degrees... Seattle homes for the most part, dont have ACs due to when the houses were built and the mild climate.. Thankfully, I live in a newer condo building with central air, so im one of the lucky ones out this way..

It feels like a damn oven here when walking outside... I hope this week of unprecedented heat doesn't lead to wild fire season starting up.. I assume it will, considering how past summers have went in recent years.

Pretty freaky that we're 15 degrees cooler than you!!! WOW!!! Next thing you know, it will snow in the Caribbean, and then the zombie apocalypse will then ensue.

I would be the happiest #er on Earth if it snowed here.

Stay cool cousin.

Here is Alberta 90f today. 104f later this week they say.

3 months ago it was -40f and c. That’s where they the two units coincide.

There’s a couple of days in May and September that are comfortable though

That's a huge worry, 2 out of the 4 summers were pretty miserable due to smoke.

Dashwood fire dept. is a ten minute drive from me and they ain't kidding.... feels like we're on collision course with the sun.

Never really sweated in my life til this heat wave, even in the shade, not moving. Think its because June is often wet here so it's still ultra humid. Normally it's really hot later in the summer and much drier so easy to deal with.

I made the mistake of thinking baking soda would substitute for talc in the ol butt crack to stop the sweat from my back puddling in there... bad mistake. It's abrasive. It's so hot, I can't think straight. The igloo is melting.
