Your neighbors are not people starving in underdeveloped countries.

That was the topic of the links you placed in the OP.

There is more than enough food to go around. Outside of actual cases of famine most starvation is caused by high prices, which is thanks in no small part to the western corporate class, which old Bill is a part of.

The majority of problems plaguing the world can be traced back to the western corporate class in one way or another. Truly depraved collection of folks.

Exactly.

First one that comes to mind?

Read it for yourself. You were among the first to harp on that particular facet of the thread and take it in that direction.

Star for that but subsistence farmers and their families can be hit hard by one failed crop. There are other causes at the family/village level but regardless, if a person or group find themselves in that situation, any help would probably be much appreciated, even bug paste, although that isn't the topic of the thread, supposedly.

Very true but you should read up on what the World Food Organisation brilliant solution to this is, spoiler: they give US dollars to the starving farmers these days instead of food. I don’t remember the exact reasoning but it was something along the lines of the rebel warlords sometimes steal the food to sell for more weapons. Now i can think of several problems with that line of reasoning but i’m not an employee of the WFO so what do i know.

Bug paste for aid purposes does sound cool but i doubt that is their intention. I believe it more to be with their desire to socially engineer the western world.

Time and again people like Gates have proven they don’t care about starving, impoverished people. His company used to dump computer batteries in Senegal’s wells and lakes, poisoning the nation’s water supply.

Looks like bug paste and synthetic grub on our menus in the west as well:

Synthetic meat investor Bill Gates calls for rich countries to shift entirely to synthetic meat

Western cattle emit more methane? I smell synthetic social engineering all over the place.

I'm sure that is part of it, and it was supposedly the main point of the OP, but OP did piggyback their argument on the projects aimed to help those in need and made it sound like that was a bad thing.

I've been in the food industry all my life. Anything is edible with the right recipe and a good wine.

But still have very good options now like real meat and seafood so let's put aside the bugs for now and feast like kings while we can.

And there are people right now who would be thankful for a maggot sausage. Why do you have a problem with them getting one?

Name one.

On one hand, it's #ing disgusting and I'd never touch that # unless I was emaciated and damned desperate.

On the other, it's honestly not a bad idea IF the taste and texture can be made to resemble meat as convincingly as veggie burgers (shut up, it's convincing enough to this meat gnawer) Only under that criteria (I better not be able to tell the difference at all) will I try so much as a Costco sample chunk some day.

But yeah, this is First World ickiness, I admit that. We're so spoiled, compared to how the truly poor and starving eat elsewhere on this rock.

Edit: But Bill can still prove it's worthiness and Nothingburgerness, by eating it 3 meals a day for a year.

We're spoiled, true, but Bill Gates and the like are glutted.

This is about his buy up of all the farmland, his disgusting (in the literal sense) idea of what everyone else should be eating. The problem I have with this is he seems to have the ability to implement his vision of what people should be eating now that he controls so much of the land and the media/corporate America.

But I also agree that Americans are funny about diet and what is or is not edible.

Edit: I totally agree with your edit

Oh I fully agree he's got his fingers in so many pots, so to speak, that he might as well have a near-monopoly across all the industries anymore. MS might as well be slowly turning into Umbrella Corp.

Hopefully others comb the idea over and refine it over time. Like I said, If I wasn't able to tell it was bugs, I'd probably eat it if it was texturally and taste-wise a non-issue.

This might not bother me as much as others, due to having already been seriously skeeved out as a kid by raw octopus wiggling around in my mouth and fighting back while I tried to swallow it (lived in S Korea -- when in Rome, and my dad was a strict adherent to that philosophy...) To be brutally truthful here, I'd take bug sausage, thoroughly cooked, over raw, wiggling sea food ever again.

It looks like insect protein has already hit the pet food industry:

Insect-based dog food aims to cut your pet's carbon pawprint

That's one of the reasons more and more pet foods containing insect protein are hitting the market. Purina, a brand owned by multinational Nestlé, launched a line of dog and cat food containing black soldier fly larvae in Switzerland in November.

If its good for Rover it must be good for the rest of us.

Sure makes you want to give her some tongue, doesn't it?

Lol, man, I am so conflicted on this whole concept. Nothing to do with who's stumping for it, it's just the product. I see the merits, I really do, but the EWWW factor keeps overriding.

Edit: HA! I just remembered something I used to eat that was/is as gross as bug goop in a casing! I was just reminded of this dish, also in Korea -- I don't remember what it was called, but it was crab, it was delicious, and I remember scraping the guts out before cracking claws because the guts were mixed with the rice. You had to do it before they congealed, or it wasn't that spiffy.

It....I'm not ashamed here, it was actually damn good and one of my fondest memories of a beach vacation in Korea with a friend from school & their family.

This is about his buy up of all the farmland...

According to this Gates owns 242K acres of US farmland.

And, according to this there are 897,400,000 acres of farmland in the US.

242,000/897,400,000 = .000269

So Gates owns less than .03% of american farmland, which makes him owning "all the farmland" hyperbole, which, in turn, makes him having "the ability to implement his vision of what people should be eating now" hyperbole as well.

I see you insist on others using precise language (while using all types of manipulative and accusatory arguments--like I want to keep starving people from eating isn't hyperbole) and don't seem to have much imagination.

Wait and see what's coming for us. In the meantime, I'm trying to appeal to the others who see it as well and who are willing to put a stop to his future vision.

No, I was pretty clear in stating that you used the aid programs talking about insect protein to piggyback your hyperbolic argument about a dystopian future.

You seem to be saying the future is now (double emphasis in the quote), and using baseless arguments to do so.
