BT, this reinforces my point that the NY Times is the nexus point of the talking point. Who knows, maybe Digging to China is a real thing?

Perhaps not so much in countries very far from each other. But in border regions for sure. I have read that those kind of attacks are very much an issue in the ongoing Israeli / Palestinian conflicts. And isn't drug smuggling across the southern border an "attack" on the US that works exactly that way?
