Speaking of the subject at hand:

Rick Santelli of TEA Party fame went off again this morning:

RS: You can’t tell me that shutting down, which is the easiest answer, is necessarily the only answer.

AS: Rick, as a public health and public service announcement for the audience, the difference between a big-box retailer and a restaurant or, frankly, even a church are so different it’s unbelievable.

RS: I disagree. I disagree. I disagree! You can have your thoughts and I can have mine.

AS: You’re wearing a mask. You’re required to wear a mask. There’s science, I’m sorry. It’s science. If you’re wearing a mask it’s a different story.

RS: Five hundred people in a Lowes are not any safer than 150 people in a restaurant that holds 600. I don’t believe it. Sorry. Don’t believe it. And I live in an area where there’s a lot of restaurants that have fought back and they don’t have any problems. And they’re open!

AS: You don’t have to believe it. But let me just say this. You’re doing a disservice to the viewer because the viewers need to understand that …

RS: YOU are doing a disservice to the viewer! YOU ARE! You are!

AS: I’m sorry. I’m sorry I would like to keep our viewers are as healthy as humanly possible. The idea of packing people into restaurants and packing—

RS: I think our viewers are smart enough to make part of those decisions on their own.

AS: …people into a Best Buy are completely different things.

RS: I don’t think that I’m much smarter than—

AS: They’re different things.

RS: I don’t think I’m much smarter than all the viewers like some people do.

He's questioning the presumption that a corporate Big Box is so much safer than you average small store, church, or restaurant.

Agreed... This is the "prelude to the nightmare"... best case scenario... but hey... "there are no such thing as slippery slopes" and "that could never happen here"... roight roight roight...

People have been talking and warning about scenarios for how long??
Any kind of disaster can occur katrina the fukushima tsunami. Next might be a volcano or meteor? 911?

What have these people been doing? Living day to day most likely. But too many people are oblivious to what might be around the corner. It must be hardwired for us to revert back to worker ants and we never really try to prepare for what might happen next. We just get back in our cars and drive around. Going three towns away to buy the same thing down the street.

The thing I think is troubling for people is not that they'll not have money for rent or food, it just when they realize how fragile our own little realities are.

When such natural disasters occur. Our artificial world we wrap ourselves up in shatters right before our eyes and it's still hard to notice what has happened.

Things like money and business become irrelevant. When you talk about nature, we have no choice in the matter, we get auto reverted back to our basic natural forms. Sure we can use medicine and technology but you can see how we still struggle to survive. Even now.

I agree with that. That would be a very just solution.

I run a small business. I will not be closing again, I will be resisting any future shutdowns. Just put up a brand new bright neon OPEN sign too.

That's great and that's how everybody needs to be. How are the local restrictions and overall economic climate

If you don't mind me asking what kind of business, my daughter absolutely loves Seattle.... good luck

Nice. May I suggest hiring a lawyer to you and anyone still in business?
I'm talking a minimum 10 million dollar lawsuit. Civil rights violations can bypass gov/taxpayer paid out damages.
You can go after them personally.

It's the only non violent way, when they leverage your biz licenses.
Put the mf'n screws to them.

At the least they will put you on the essential list with Walmart.
You don't even need to pay them off like big corps.
Take their bank account and empty it.

It will only take one case and the rest will realize their place.
Good luck dude

I feel what you are saying.
I know what is going to happen if things don't get better quick too...
Not much we can do after places close...

I'm doing my part, and this is something I truly believe...

Businesses that choose to follow the directives brought forth by their government are accepting the # sandwich and then complaining. It is the owner's option to go open the doors to his business. If "officials" attempt to shut him down, all he has to do is say, "No", and that is that.
When they come at you with fines, do not pay them.
People are far too compliant with "authorities". Who gave them any authority? Not I. If they get away with it, they then assume that authority and go about dismantling that which they find objectionable.
This makes me think of the veteran's administration calling me for donations. The military in the US has a budget larger than any other country's, ever, in the history of the universe, and they need me to send them whatever I can.
You knew what you signed up for, no? And now I'm supposed to feel sorry for your door-kicking exploits of half a world away that left you with a trick knee?
Ben Franklin, pedo extrordinaire once said, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

The problem is that then the government yanks needed licenses and makes you a target like the poor barber in Michigan or this hairstylist in Oregon. They were early protesters. They were targeted and still are.

The good news is that we are starting to reach critical mass where business owners are starting resist more en masse. If we reach that critical mass point, then the authorities lose their ability to govern easily or effectively. But we have to reach that tipping point.

Legally no one really has to close shop when your neighborhood Walmart is open. Think about it.

Yes, there are all kinds of circumstances, we rented space in a huge office building we were locked out by city restrictions weren't even allowed in the building for 2 months. Many of our customers were in the same situation. 2 months in what is usually our best time of year was all it took. Multiple manufacturers have gone OOB those first 2 months an 1-2 a month since

They aren't browbeating them closed though. They are leveraging their self-appointed power to license businesses.
Threatening to revoke their biz license.
They are ignoring the law and using law enforcement to back it up.
The ny bar situation was where this needs to go.
Thousands in the street screaming f you to the cops backing it and massive lawsuits.
The time to leverage their personal income is here.

The backbone of the middle class is the small businessman/woman. They break that, and they have the rest of us under the control of the corps or the bureaucracies for our livelihoods, if not directly dependent on government welfare.

It's easier to control the few than it is the many, and by controlling the few, they control us far more effectively.

The help needed to save the economies of this country needs to come from those who are handcuffing the businesses.

www.michigancapitolconfidential.com...

The number of small businesses still open in Michigan has fallen by 35.8% since January. This means the pandemic and government responses to it have forced more than one-third of all small businesses here to close their doors, with many likely to remain closed permanently.

That is a staggering number

One two punch restrict businesses from opening and scare the # out of 50% or more of the public from even going out.

a reply to: DontTreadOnMe A month ago or two I heard 60,00/100,000 small biz restaurants across the US have failed never to return again....

That was before the recent rollout of what will certainly be thousands more KOs across this wonderful country....

Make no mistake. I hope everyone everywhere that is experiencing loss in some form or another, especially with regard to the virus is doing the best they can.
Stay frosty

They should sue their governments. You personally should also write each of them a check. Also, I wear a mask everytime I enter a store or eatery. You should right me a check for keeping you safe. Lastly, if the op is truly sincere, reimburse all tax payers for the rediculous amount of money being spent on this fraudulent pandemic
