Um. Double you say? Did you read the Suicides in Japan thread by chance? Because that might be a baseline for where the rest of the world is headed, just not quite yet.

What got me started on this was one guy I talked to yesterday.
He and his wife have kept a small neighborhood shop open for decades, employing only a couple of people. Good people who often extended credit to people who had none, so they could get their old beater car fixed to get to work. Beloved people. They by no means earn even close to a middle income. I learned about him from a now deceased employee of mine, who had often relied on him to fix his car without paying up front.
He stopped taking pay and kept right on paying his two employees out of his own pocket and now, he's shutting down Feb. 1st, broken and destitute, facing the possibility of being homeless shortly after.
I'd not be surprised if the suicide rates double, but I looked, and they have stopped posting the stat's on the States site.

You think a significant number of people who suffered no financial harm are doing that? Most people don't even understand that the small businesses are not wealthy, and do not make a lot of money. In fact most work harder than most people for less pay, because they want to be self-sufficient. A lot of them are hidden and people don't even realize the community benefits from their work.
I'll survive, barely, but after talking to people that will not all day long it concerns me. That and knowing how society will treat them when they join the ranks of homeless. People will just look at the bum, why should I help them.

Me too. I mean, the devil itself couldn't dream up such a horrible dilemma for the human race than this COVID thing.
I'm not any kind of socialist or communist, but I feel strongly that this is what a government by the people suppose to do in cases like this.
This is not welfare in any way IMO.
This is worse than a natural disaster
Sure, charities need to be organized to help, but ultimately our government should step in and make people whole… That's my opinion.. that's my philosophy.

We can't mandate morality.
But it was, when tax dollars were given mainly to the corps, for no good reason.
No wonder Rudi baby's brown 'trickle down' was about him needing to ghost Trump's head up some big corp's ass.

Funny thing to bet on such a bet. But irony is no stranger to ATS this year... I’ve been looking. But sneaky google and stupid year not being over yet have prevented ahem, certain sites from uploading such statistical info.

Yeah it's not good. I am willing to bet my life on suicide rates in the US in the first month, in one big city, surpassing the total death rates to date.
-even allowing them to prioritize classification of deaths in comorbidity cases.
I wonder why that is...
