I shop everyday and haven’t wore a mask once. I’m such an irresponsible idiot you see.

Explain the logic is sending kids to school without masks into the perfect environment to cultivate the virus, excluding them from the need to wear one yet asking people in the same households to stop the spread with masks. It stupidity personified.

A few thoughts.

So firstly thats a letter to the editor its not some peer reviewed research piece. Secondly a lot of it seems to be talking about individuals with underlying health conditions (at least the bits you cherry picked do) and thirdly it was written at a time when less was known about COVID-19. I am pretty certain that this time next year we could be looking at changes in evidence and looking back at this point in time wondering why we were being so dumb.

Its actually very normal to find articles like this in academic journals, its a counterargument to a bit of writing that was done offering up a different view point. You find this quite a lot in academia where we have one body of evidence and then another body of evidence to counter it and there is a bit of an argument in the literature. Its useful because it identifies knowledge gaps in the literature and it challenges the literature to identify area's where the evidence bases needs to be stronger to support recommendations.

We spend a lot of time just learning about the nature of research and journals like this, its not simply a case of saying well the BMJ said so in a letter to the editor so it must be true. Its about critically appraising the literature and looking for supporting literature, its about understanding the intent of the literature, how a letter to the editor differs form an editorial with differs from a literature review and differs from a research paper... I honestly probably wouldn't use a "Letter to the Editor" in isolation in academic writing to support a statement in an argument. This is a letter to the editor by one individual it is not the view of the oldest running medical journal in the world (The New England Journal of Medicine would have something to say about that claim)

Fairly certain if I could be arsed I could find a plethora of research that supports the wearing of masks.

Mask are for eradication of all individuality, dehumanizing ,standardisation of new human and not to protect from disease.

Wearing the stubid mask is symbolic, you give a sign that you belong to the dystopian new World order.

Global advice from national health organisations and 99.99% of medical professionals across the world should be evidence enough for you.

But no. You have decided that the 0. 01% is correct - when actually people have been wearing masks for years in various professions (including the medical one) and in many Asian cultures.

Recently its been shown that the southern hemisphere has had an extremely low flu transmission/number of cases over its winter. Why? Well evidence suggests that its because people have been wearing masks during the Covid pandemic and that has also slowed the spread of flu which is transmitted in similar ways.

Maybe you ought to think about that before you spout more stupidity?

Evidence shows I’ve never worn a face mask in my life yet I’m still here.

Do what you want with your life just don’t project your rules onto me and paint them as some kind of freedom crusade.

Also pulling statistics out your ass without sources doesn’t impress me.

The less people who wear masks, the less people who observe social distancing, the less people who follow the rules, the longer this will go on and the stricter lockdowns will become.

You, sir, are fighting against our freedoms, not for them.

How can people still believe this?

Absolutely.

If it wasn't we'd still think the earth is flat and the sun revolves around us. Evidence is based on facts as they emerge.

Ok so maybe there's some folk around here believe thats still true.

And yet no-one has posted anything to refute any of my points regarding the dangers of wearing masks.

I never said masks don’t slow the spread of the virus. That’s just you putting words in my mouth and missing the point. My position is they have their own health risks and their effectiveness is questionable due to factors such as not being medical grade nor worn by medical professionals.

How about you try and read what I say instead of going off on baseless rage tangents?

Ever see video from China before covid? They all wore masks to fight pollution.

So tell me oh wise one, why did they have an outbreak if the masks are supposed to protect?

Makes one wonder how we all got played.

Nope.
One or two, or even a few in a crowd may have wore a mask.

Certainly not all of them.

So tell me oh ignorant one, why did an outbreak occur if hardly anyone was wearing a mask?

Go ahead and you tube or google the streets of China anytime after 2012.
And then send a pic of you eating that crow.

Nope

Its you that should provide one to prove your point.
Lets see a crowd of chinese people and everyone wearing a mask. Pre 2020 of course
Actually lets see a few, just to prove your point.

I'll help you out, here is an example
www.theguardian.com...

Thats a handful not a crowd
Here's a crowd 2016

I asked the other poster for a few photo's of a crowd wearing masks pre 2020. A crowd. Post another 3 with more than 20 people in them, you know like a crowd. Not a handful

Science.

Plus knowing our grandparents/parents didn't fight in WWII so people could fake disability or serious health condition because they'er too selfish to do the bare minimum to help shield other people.

Failure.

States nothing about protection properties, either for the wearer or in stopping the flow of droplets.

No specifications, no data, just wishy washy comments on what can barely be classed as design.

Next.

And exactly how many global pandemics of a novel, easily transmissible respiratory disease called Covid19 to which humans have no natural immunity have you lived through in your life? (heres a clue... its greater than zero and less than 2).

You've never been shot in the head, nuked or set on fire before either I would wager. Would you be happy for any of those to happen?

yeh I recently watched David Blaine on Joe Rogan

anyone claiming that masks increase co2 levels in your body is talking bull#

david blaine expalins how he trained for the magic he does , specially holding his breath and increasing his bodies tolerance to CO2 levels in his blood
specially the part where he explains his training with the navy seals and blacking out underwater
not exactly sure wher int he video but he talks about it for ages , but humans are pretty good at taking on levels of increased co2 before they die from it
