Also, the guy In the background holding the cue is looking at whatever ball is being aimed for (clearly out of frame) aka the object ball. The guy next to him is looking at Miller’s bridge hand.

To be honest, I ask myself: if there was a message encoded into this picture by Q or team Q, would any references to pool be made by and for someone that plays pool?

This is a very fair assessment Cavy!

The cheap labor part is true. We bring in a scientist fresh from college and I get to influence his training and tried to point him in the right direction. The bosses see his talent and give him lots of assignments and very little money. We will lose him if they don't care and I will need another like him... He had lots of new programming skills I don't. I am the one who adapts to whatever but am not going to be the one blazing the trail to the new stuff. I have to muddle thru it and the skill set I have better fits the big picture. Only, now they want to think about the money picture and do away with the experienced nerds.

The gen ex'ers get hosed, bottom line. I am rolling with it since I can't fix it. At least the newbies that care are good listeners. The ones that don't listen are going to miss out on things.

A lot of influences in that situation, JOM.

One was the emergence of automation and IT. That swept away a LOT of positions at a time when we had more qualified job-seekers than ever. IT also contributes to the "hire young" mentality because those people show up with the desired certifications of knowledge in esoteric badger grooming or whatever. The continual reinvention of programming languages is IMO a gimmick to force out experienced people so that cheaper hires can be brought on board.

Then there was the mass exportation of jobs to other countries, including asinine notions like call centers in India.

At some point, the organization's people became commodities to barter about, and ALL the generations suffered as a consequence.
