Even I am tempted to join, though I doubt I will. The idea of signing away my liberty into the hands of a government entity set the Spidey Sense off. But right now all my "civil liberties" mean jack-#. What would really be lost?

But the idea of being at the forefront of a new military venture into the great unknown... I imagine the first crews of the Portuguese Age of Discovery had similar feelings of angst and wonder.

I just know that I'm 100% living a life where my ability to matter is stifled by my environment. Sick of working at jobs that don't actually help my people, working for people who have no passion for what they do.

Everyone around me seems content to go to a meaningless job where they "matter", and then come home and drink/smoke themselves into oblivion so they don't have to face the fact that they don't matter at all. That their life isn't their own. I'm done with living this lie every day.

I just don't know where to go from here. And nevermind what to do about my people. The idea of leaving them to their fate while I go and pursue happiness is abysmally selfish. Quite the pickle, I'm in!

To debunk the evidence, Media Matters pointed to a Snopes.com “fact-check” piece that cited as its sole source… Senator John McCain. This is the same John McCain who met Libyan militia leader Abdelkarim Belhaj, a known al Qaeda associate, and saluted him as “my hero” during a 2011 visit to Benghazi.

You can't control other people. You can't help them unless they want to be. Every persons journey is their own.
If you aspire to elevate yourself out of your position, you can inspire others and show them that it is possible. This is the most you can do. You shouldn't weigh yourself down with everyone around you. Why is it your responsibility?
Being strong, showing others what is possible leads a way. It isn't selfish, so long as you share your adventures and wisdom gained with those that ask.
All you can ever control is yourself, and do your best to be there when someone asks for help. It really is that simple... and they will ask for your help when they notice that you haven't just accepted the mediocre mundane existence... become someone worth asking...

Just a small, simple example... back in the 80s, my dads work place moved abroad, and he didn't want to go with them. So he decided to throw caution to the wind and become an artist, working for himself (he had only ever done it for himself, and was self taught). It never brought him gigantic wealth, but it did bring him a lot of freedom and happiness.
In the wake of this choice he made, he has inspired so many of my family to venture out and run their own businesses and follow their artistic passions. The ripple effect of his actions go way beyond him... he wasn't being selfish... no one ever thought he was being selfish... even us kids who grew up relatively poor by comparison to other family's around us never saw it that way. The benefits of the lifestyle were an inspiration to all of us, and we, and our next generation too have all grown up more independent... and it spreads beyond that too, to spouses who are unaccustomed to thinking that way.
So, think about it differently. Free yourself my friend.

Hope that means something. Take risks, do something for you that inspires others and it will have positive repercussions. Let other people make their own choices and remove that chain you have created.
