So, opinion like I said, until an actual test is done. Got it.

Yes opinion indeed, but, most importantly: educated opinion.

That part kind of matters too.

Michigan toddler spiked 107-degree fever with coronavirus, ‘battle lasting forever'

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI - Luke Schreiber’s parents didn’t think their thermometer could possibly be right. There was no way their toddler could be registering a 107.1 temperature. And he couldn’t possibly have COVID-19 at his age, could he?

What began as a normal day on March 31 turned into a medical nightmare that the family is still living through. Amanda May and Ryan Schreiber say they had been checking the temperatures of their kids, 4-month-old Alistair and 22-month-old Luke, everyday since the family began staying home after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued her order restricting non-essential travel. “They were around 98 degrees. I wasn’t concerned until Luke woke up crying that Tuesday morning. He never wakes up crying,” Amanda May Schreiber told MLive. She said her son’s temperature was at 103 degrees that morning. She gave him something for the fever, which brought it down a couple degrees. But a few hours later after his nap, she couldn’t believe what his temperature read. “He got up and he looked flush. My husband sat down with him and I took Luke’s temperature and he was 107.1," she said. "I took the blankets off and waited a couple minutes and he registered 106.5. I took it about 10 more times to make sure it was registering correctly.

After being in the hospital overnight he went home but the fever has lasted and he was sleeping more. Mom, a marathon runner, has also been sick with shortness of breath and exhaustion. Dad only had chest tightness for a couple of days

The last paragraph is good info :

Schreiber says her husband, Ryan, has felt OK so far. He had chest tightness for a few days, but that’s it. She say her 4-month old has had fevers for about a week of around 100.5 to 101.5, but overall has been doing well. She hopes her family’s story will convince everyone to stay home and stay away from people.

“Healthy kids and healthy young adults can get this and be very sick from it. I am baffled why people still refuse to stay home and are going out for non-essentials. I would encourage parents to just keep their kids home.”

Thanks for the link, a very interesting, if disturbing, read.

CDC says that you can’t get coronavirus from grocery packaging.
M SN.com
Let me get this straight.

We know that the virus survived on surfaces for 17 days on that cruise ship.

Now the guys that told us not to wear masks because they don’t help... are telling us that we can’t catch the virus from contaminated surfaces.... but they urge us to wear masks to the grocery store and wash our hands?

Pardon me if I choose not to trust the CDC.

I don't know if you meant to post the same thing again, but you already posted that a few pages back:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

The way I look at it is that it's about risk levels, not absolutes.
If someone tells you it's ok to cross the street, it won't kill you, that's not an absolute, because it might. People die from crossing the street, so it can happen.

That's sort of how I look at the packaging thing though it depends on the practices of the employees handling the packages: if any are sick, unmasked, and coughing on the packages, then of course the packaging is a much higher risk. In the local markets here all the employees are masked and gloved now (wasn't the case in March).

So yes maybe you could die from not decontaminating the packaging. You could also die from crossing the street. I hope both of those are unlikely though it depends on the practices of the employees/customers handing the packaging and in the case of crossing the street, I may have a higher chance of dying from that because I cross a crosswalk to walk to the grocery store and some drivers don't feel they need to yield to pedestrians on the well-marked crosswalk, so it can be quite risky.

One way you might be able to avoid having to wipe packages down if you're worried about exterior contamination is to place them on the counter, then wash your hands, use a scissors and pliers or tools to open the package, then you can use your washed hands to transfer the contents to your own packaging. Then throw the packaging away, decontaminate the countertop and the tools you used, and wash your hands again. I would do that if I thought it was necessary, but personally I'm not trying to decontaminate the exterior of my packages.

I bought some chicken breasts from a semi-open display in the meat department where I was worried the interior of the package might be contaminated; that viruses drifting through the air might drift through the open back of the display case and land on the chicken; not likely but it could happen. In that case I just did some research and found that cooking the chicken to normal cooking temperatures recommended for chicken will kill the virus. I verified the temperature after cooking was at least 165 degrees F with a meat thermometer, which is supposed to destroy the virus, and didn't worry about the contamination possibility after that.

I am not surprised. I thought I had read something about opening borders there (or the number of people crossing) and I can't find it now. Putin says "everything's under control" but I have my doubts.

SOUTH AFRICA UPDATE (Day 23 of Total Lockdown)

1. Tested 114711
2. Infected 3158
3. Deaths 54

Government talking about a phased reopening of the lockdown (in less than 2 weeks).
1. Already certain industries allowed to re-open or partially re-open (50% for mines). There is a need to supply coal to the power stations.
2. When schools re-open, children and teachers to be tested. I guess if a child tests positive, they can extrapolate that the entire family will be positive too.
3. School hours to be extended and classes will staggered by grade.

Food unrest in certain areas. (This is one to watch, and the one we all fear.)
Prisoners threaten food strikes if not released.

From the FT

Coronavirus claims thousands of UK businesses

Some 21,000 more UK businesses collapsed in March than the same month a year ago, the first proof of the toll coronavirus is taking on companies. The 70 per cent year-on-year increase was identified by the Enterprise Research Centre, a group of several leading universities.

The number of new companies also dropped dramatically, by 23 per cent.

“The OBR view that this will be a V shaped recession does not tally with the level of closures. It looks more like an L-shaped recession. These companies are not going to bounce back.”

...There was the report of the woman who had been self isolating because she has an autoimmune disorder.... hadn't been in contact with anyone other than her husband for weeks and she wound up getting it.

On a side note, did you hear what happened to her? I’m asking cos I’ve got an autoimmune disorder too (seronegative inflammatory arthritis)

I have a friend with an autoimmune disease who has been diagnosed in UK. She was self isolating. Had a temp for 1 week so dr sent to hospital cos she is high risk. They did xray and said looks like covid. She's been sent home with a leaflet and is doing ok atm. It's been about a week so far.

It's great to hear she's doing ok - i won't lie: for my sake as well as hers! Godspeed her recovery!

I don't trust it either. It's pretty logical that it can be on packages and products in the store. People aren't required to wear masks in all stores yet so they could be asymptomatic and breathing their COVID germs down every isle. Delivery drivers and packagers could be asymtomatic. Until someone shows me a good study about packages and groceries I won't believe what they are saying now. Especially since they thought it wasn't that contagious and we didn't need masks.

Regarding packaging and groceries... a person in the secret Facebook group I've been in for years is from the Netherlands and he said that they are going on the assumption that it's on packaging because there are people getting infected and their only contact with the outside world has been deliveries.

We've wiped everything down since the beginning.
It's not worth the risk, and it only takes a 10-15 minutes.

We used 70% alcohol wipes in the beginning, but have moved to bleach spray and cloths.
(Never any wipes in stock at the store, just like Flour...)

Just one thought before bed : What about Fog ?

Isn't that just water droplets suspended in the air ?
Would that be able to transport the virus further, between people waiting in lines etc at the supermarket ?
