My child's school small town outside Austin, Tx just closed until April 5th. All other schools around are also closed for the same time period.

Thanks to you guys I stocked up on food and medicine 3 weeks ago. I went yesterday to top off and of note there was no: Paper towels, toilet paper, eggs, bread, water low, potatoes low.

I have an update.

I just tried to pay my credit card and it is not working.

Tried calling and online. No person to answer phone.

Got ahold of them on FB chat and they said to use the online option. The online option is down also.

I think it is a bad day when you cant even give the credit card company any money.

Now what?

Did you see Bill Bowtell tearing the Gov't new one last night on Q&A over their pathetic slow response?

Australia could end up being even worse than Italy or the UK.

I'm sure their systems for charging late payment and charges for exceeding limits won't be compromised.

It occurs to me, in the UK, that it is all about big business, screw the people, we're just consumers, plenty more where that came from. UK claims they won't 'support' mass gatherings and 'advise' to avoid pubs/clubs etc. Not banning them. If they banned them, these businesses could claim on insurance. By not banning, those businesses and their employees are screwed, but hey, the insurance big boys will be laughing.

Thank you, much appreciated. I'm sorry about your Dad too
Just seems like it's one thing after another at the moment.

I've also heard from a friend who works for Keele University that they are sending students home this week and also advising everyone to adhere to the PMs new guidelines regarding work from home and self-isolation.

Yeah I think before I pay my bill, they are going to wave the late fee. I took screen shots of the "apology".

If that doesnt work I'm going to inform them, "I'm sorry due to the complications you are having from coronavirus outbreak, of me paying my payment, I the customer have waived this months payment". If you have any questions feel free to contact me at my number.

It isnt my fault they can't take my money.

CBS Evening News
@CBSEveningNews
WH coronavirus response coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx: "If you're not uncomfortable, if you're not really putting together and asking for sacrifice, you're going to get behind the virus, and if you get behind a pandemic. This virus is about 2-3 times more contagious than flu."

She talks about Americans needing to make sacrifices and that her biggest concern is people thinking they aren't at risk and they won't follow the guidelines. Even if you perceive you are not at risk you put others at risk.

Those who think the world is overreacting to this (you know who you are)..... this is direct from the WH Dr. on the CV taskforce. It is 2-3 times more contagious than the flu and we know it's about 10x more lethal even if it's under 1% CFR so with the NUMBER of people who will contract it due to how contagious it is (and the WHO finally talked about it being airborne) the number of people who will die.... is pretty extreme.

Yeah and it may increase comorbidities with this thing. If you have a history of prior injury, stroke/CVA, inflammatory conditions, autoimmune conditions, prior illnesses, maybe even plaques or dementia, even undiagnosed prion diseases, who knows. But this could increase the severity of the crossover. I want to know how it's moving along peripheral nerves, I get the encephalitis type symptoms but peripheral nerve damage that could include the diaphragm or God forbid, nerves in the heart too, I hope it's a coincidence and just systemic inflammatory responses.

affecting nerve sheaths, residing there, as with Shingles/Herpes? I got that they were finding infection/viral load in brain stem and medulla oblangata, but now it's theorized it is residing in nerve sheaths of specific autonomic nerves, as well?

I'm in Austin. Went to HEB today and the produce section was so empty even at the really big one (no salads for me I guess - lettuce was gone). Everyone looked depressed. One entrance was closed and the open entrance had a large armed guard which wasn't too uplifting to see. I bought a bunch of stuff 2 weeks ago to stash in the garage but I know it's not enough. I keep going back for more but there's no flour, no cooking oil, no beans. After seeing the stock market crash I made a Twin Liquor run LOL!

Unfortunately everything is on Direct Debit
I'd also be scared of getting cut off or kicked out, can't risk that with my daughter being asthmatic.

Also just received news that my daughter's Grandad (on her dad's side) has died due to "dementia and a chest infection", not quite sure what to make of that.

My condolences. I try to make light of the situation, gallows humour and all, but real life has a habit of bringing us down to reality. I'm afraid we will see this much more. Evidence of influenza like illness on the increase, while confirmed influenza is decreasing. It's natural to wonder.

Continue to be strong. Inherit the Earth. When it comes to rebuild: Do it right.

Hi friend. Sounds like Austin is worse than here right now. I heard HEB is only open 8am-8pm.

I am going to have to make a alcohol run tomorrow- I forgot about that- thanks. . I forgot to add on my post that the rice and beans were totally out. There were a few things like rice- a-roni left. It was depressing- a couple of us looked at each other and said " this is weird".

Can anyone with technical expertise help decipher the implications of the NextStrain data regarding virus epidemiology mutations & the locations of which mutations have taken place in which countries/locations?

It's almost hard to believe yet we have seen it coming a long way off.
I just saw businesses on the news complaining that as Boris hasn't made it a mandatory closure of theatres/restaurants they can't claim on their insurance for it - but are forced to close anyway due to no customers (and caring about spread of the virus)
A cynic would say Bojo has insurance interests! (most likely eh)

More updates from New England:

Many policies being pushed out by the DPH.

All bars are now closed, restaurants are to only serve takeout. Delivery from restaurants are now offering drop off points. You meet somewhere, they leave the food at a designated location, you go pick it up.

Rumors of shelter in place protocols being prepared for the cities. Schools adding additional time to being out. Employers talking about weeks or months of critical employees only reporting for work.

Social distancing is mandatory for all employers. This includes staggered breaks, not sharing spaces, staggered schedules, digital meetings, not using common computers etc.

Any personnel leaving the state are to be tested on return, military members need permission from high level officers to leave, general or brigade. Civilian providers get tested.

Huge increase in plumbing calls due to paper towels and baby wipes clogging sewer lines.

Stores are still running out of goods right after restock, people shopping like crazy. The roads are busy like the holidays, I was looking forward to less traffic.

Exercise, dance, workout, social clubs are closing because no one is showing up. Athletics cancelled, competitions and talks are canceled.

Parks and recreation areas are packed, people staying outdoors instead of inside homes.

Movie theaters, malls, casinos all the fun stuff closing.

Legislation being prepped for all forms of utility and housing bills and hopefully interest rate reductions. Can't wait to claim disaster relief on the tax return.

Reports of many people showing cold like symptoms in public trying to navigate this mess. Reminders being stated to stay home if ill.

Sounds about right for this mess.

I would be interested in this as well, I'm about a year out from this material. Only thing I know is its following normal RNA based viral mutation rates from a virus of animal origin and a result from a natural crossover to human host event.
