Oh wow. SFO, SBA, San Pedro....The ship stopped in Santa Barbara county if it was from 2/11-2/21... great.
That’s a lot of coastline and time to circulate the virus. Those people are now “safely” back home and awaiting symptoms. I mean I can understand (I guess) not cancelling flights....but cruises seems to be a luxury item that’s already on the fritz. Just declare bankruptcy and reshuffle already @Carnival, Norwegian, Princess. Not to mention the close proximity, rail-holding and duration are all terribly effective transmission facets giving the WC’s ability to transfer this disease a whole new lease...

If the R0 is between 3-6, there are 11 deaths and the CFR is around 3%, the US is already under siege. Without a doubt

Not much in the south east US. Life is normal, mostly people are joking about the virus and how blown out of proportion it is, like they are experts about it or something.

My wife’s friends daughter is a cop near San Fran, CA, said there are talks of a city lockdown, shutdown of all the bridges Out and into the city. I was a bit surprised when I heard that. We’ll see if that’s true in the next couple days. You know how rumors are.

There's a chance it could happen, I'd been leaning to that having some truth to it, the authorities would most certainly be preparing contingency plans. There's every possibility this will spread in t h e U.S just the as it has in Italy and Iran.

That text, then the blood, omg must've been scary until you worked out what was going on. Glad to hear your daughter is feeling better now. Interesting about the dog, sometimes our animal companions know more than we do I reckon.

I think the SG would likely just respawn in the dungeon if he took enough damage.

My 1d20 dice is loaded and made of silver. Also +3 BS Detection enchantment.

Stores all low on TP here. Being Australia, this is probably true for many here.

Funny you mention traps. mim brought up bows, crossbows, but twine and wire would be invaluable for catching game. Slugs, rounds, and shells may be needed.

I’m not a sportsman, hunter, or avid gun proponent and I have no inclination to shoot anyone to protect my non-existent family (or ever for ANY reason). rather I had some plywood if it gets REAL real. Ground-level windows aren’t the best fortress defenses for castle-keeping.

I was seriously contemplating stopping at local bookstore to grab some literature on everyday/shtf personal farming.

So thank you again. You and sd123456 keep working those numbers, I’ll provide idle and sophomoric commentary

For gardening, non hybridysed heirloom natural seeds are a must. The hybrid ones are the type generally sold in stores, only work for one generation, their offspring (the new seeds they form) are either sterile or have inconsistent yield.

Made me think of the "doomsday" seed vault.

Is it just coincidence that the same Gates Foundation is backing the organization responsible for maintaining the Svalbard “Doomsday” Seed Vault at the same time Gates is emerging as a major authority on the danger of the Wuhan coronavirus epidemic? In an article he wrote for the New England Journal of Medicine, Gates stated that the designated COVID19, “has started behaving a lot like the once-in-a-century pathogen we’ve been worried about.”

A virtually inaccessible seed vault under the control of some of the world’s foremost advocates of eugenics and population reduction is definitely remarkable. With more than a million of the irreplaceable seed heritage of the world locked inside the Svalbard Seed Vault, could this be a way for GMO agribusiness giants like Bayer-Monsanto or Syngenta to illegally gain access to those seeds in a time of global crisis? It sounds very far-fetched, yet there are far-fetched goings on in our world. We could say, “He who controls the world’s crop seeds, controls the world.”

I have been watching these threads and seeing the two sides getting more and more clearly defined. One side says covid-19 is a serious threat and we need to protect ourselves. The other side says covid-19 is nothing compared to the regular flu which has a higher mortality rate.

I got to thinking about that and something didn't add up. You can't compare years and years worth of statistics on one virus to just three months of statistics on another virus. Of course they are different. If you want to get a real idea of how dangerous one virus is compared to another you have to compare them both at the same age. We have three months of data on covid-19 and the mortality rate is 3.4% I believe. So what was the mortality rate of h1n1 at three months? According to the CDC it was .4%. The Swine flu epidemic of 2009 was .4% three months in.

H1N1 was first detected in Mexico in mid-March, 2009. By mid-June, 2009, there were a total of 44,287 cases world wide with 180 deaths.

just been discussing “heirloom” seeds being the way to go with friends. When I lived with a friend of mine, he’d been compiling what he referred to as his “apocalypse box”. Seeds and camo, camp/survival gear, and a gas mask or two

We joked then. I asked him how it was a month ago...

Your point? Because if it’s “we just don’t know”. I agree

My point is that people keep comparing covid-19 to the regular seasonal flu and say the regular flu is more lethal. When you compare both viruses at the same age, three months since first detection in humans, the mortality rate for covid-19 is 3.4% and the mortality rate for H1N1 (the swine flu epidemic of 2009) was .4%.

Some people on these boards are saying a virus that had a mortality rate of .4% three months after detection is more lethal than a virus that had a mortality rate of 3.4% three months after detection.

That looks like "we just don't know" to you?

Nope, that makes sense to me. I mean other than the obvious obfuscation of those that do/ “are in” the know

Besides comparing to the influenza is a complete “herrings to barracuda” kind of comparison...
