Still getting over your last theory btw, not much sleep, that last link I found myself, don't think anyone else knows coronavirus is likely sti, after the main infection is gone. Probably important, might have to post it in a new thread when I get the energy.

Anyone else got more info on this?

Someone posted (maybe you) about mucous membranes.
I was just musing. Makes this fella giggle. Get some shut-eye amigo. I’ll stfu and do the same.

Side Note: I dunno if anyone caught the reason why the people on the WC cruise ship couldn’t be brought to shore, but something about “no room for containment” struck me as odd, not the least of which we brought the Diamond Princess folks home from across the world, AND seeing as CA houses everyone else at the drop of a hat....we are a pretty damn big state after all

Thank you for what your bring pf.

Thought I'd let the people here know that the test for the virus can be free for those with the National Health Insurance. Also stated that the test would be about 18000 yen or about 200 USD. I think the slow action of the American CDC was all wrong about the test equipment and that is why it wasn't sent out. Well, where did the test equipment to Japan? Because now we can test up to 4200 test a day, was at 3600 in my last recent post.
Something just doesn't seem right at the CDC. I know the last time I visited the States, community health centers were almost free for those that couldn't pay much for whatever service the centers were qualified to run test or help with medications . Something just isn't clicking right in the States. It only took about one week for the govt here to pass the the above testing fee . What is wrong with America these days?

I'll do that, thanks, yea this whole thing has left me low on sleep and high on stress. Trying to get my fam (parents, brother, daughter) to take this more seriously and prep, some success there lately.

Yea weird about the cruise, deliberately brewing infection vectors to spread maybe.

Also thank you for your contributions to these threads, appreciated. Those that can still feel sad about the world sometimes are the ones with heart I think.

So I think the answer to whether corona is an STI, transmissible for a period of time after recovery, is
maybe.

In some cases, viruses can persist for as many as 565 days in semen, meaning that an infected person could theoretically remain contagious for up to several months.

And in addition to the 27 viruses they found in semen, the researchers also discovered the genetic material of several other viruses, such as dengue, SARS, and smallpox, in human testes. There isn't enough evidence yet to say if these viruses would also be present in semen, however.

Lots of questions about the viruses remain. The most pressing is whether or not they could all be sexually transmitted to a new host.

www.businessinsider.com...

Several other viruses that result in viremia can cause orchitis and have been detected in human testes, suggesting the possibility that these viruses may also be detectable in semen. These viruses include influenza virus, lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus, phlebotomus fever virus, cocksackie B virus, echovirus, dengue virus, systemic acute respiratory syndrome virus, parvovirus, smallpox virus, vaccinia virus, and rubella virus.

Anything but the nuts I say.

There aren't enough test kits. My mother was under quarantine. Then quarantine lifted because no fever and no shortness of breath. Last week or so she had other symptoms. Now I have a sore throat. No one is getting tested. I'm sure I would be if I tried to travel overseas. I rarely ever get fevers. Sometimes I get colder when I get sick. Typically I feel hotter than most of the general public wearing short sleeve shirts in the winter in the Carolinas. I go to church wearing short sleeve shirts and if it's in the 70's in the building, I'm hot. I keep my house around 60 to 65 degrees with my heat on while home.

I might be fighting off some other virus but I don't want to pay $200 or $300 for a test. They don't even have tests available to confirm my mother doesn't have it and she would be covered by the government I think. Right now no fever, no test. I guess we are all going to get sick or exposed to viruses of unknown origin. With no cure for viruses, I usually never go to the doctor when I get a virus. I could have the corona virus and recover and never know it. If millions of other Americans are in the same boat, millions will no longer fear it if they already had it. Of course if you can get it again, might still fear it. Right now, most people here don't know. People aren't getting tested unless they have a fever and contacted someone from a known infected area. Except for a slightly sore throat I feel ok. I did read it can take 5 days to start showing symptoms. Both my mother and me have other symptoms. The people that got my mother sick were visiting California, not China but they were sick. Of course there is nothing to worry about if you listen to our leaders.

China shuts down everything but here in the US we have nothing to worry about. Hopefully the fatality rate is a lot lower than estimated when you add in all the mild cases of all those never tested. I'm sure many Chinese did not walk or bicycle several miles to a hospital to get tested and quarantined if they were wondering if they had it and they were not feeling well. I often avoid doing a lot of extra exercise when I'm well because I do enough for work.

I did hear the US is ramping up testing capabilities. If my mother ever gets tested and has it, then I probably have it.

I saw the headline about Italy’s patient zero; a migrant food delivery driver. He refused to self isolate and carried on delivering.

Made me wonder if this is indeed a zombie apocalypse after all... Bear with me...

Some research paper, yet to be peer reviewed (sorry haven’t got a link) suggested this virus resembles herpes in that it can reside in the nervous system permanently. Is it possible (I’m an absolute layman in these matters) for a virus to somehow influence the actions/choices of its host in order to propagate.

Thus the host is for all intensive purposes a ‘zombie’ of a kind. Hence the Italian migrant felt the need to get outside and spread the virus. Of course it was probably because he needed money to live).

It’s far fetched of course, but in this far fetched hypothesis it would explain why countries are hesitant to allow infected ships to dock and the (hopefully false) rumours of the Chinese burning the infected before they’re dead (RIP).

This isn’t so much a theory as a what if.

Edit: there’s zombie’s in nature, such as a fungus that hijack’s ants brain, plus more yucky examples, here:

It's suggested there may be a fungus specifically designed to target each form of life on the planet.

It's also suggested that the fungus that targets and controls humans similarly is.... yeast.

I'm feeing fine now. My mother is under quarantine. I heard she had diarrhea even though it sounds like none today. I heard today on national news that 2/3 of people with the virus are likely entering the country undetected because they were only checking for fevers.
She also is breathing harder or wheezing even though she is telling me she is ok. I can imagine she would tell me that until she's almost gone. She will likely recover I believe.
I read other symptoms of the corona virus are diarrhea and shortness of breath. I guess they don't know of a way to screen people for that in an airport. I believe there are sick people everywhere across the country and the US is like China in the early stages with very little testing taking place. I did just hear on the local news in South Carolina of some cases here in the state. Based on the traffic I saw this afternoon, it's business as usual with people traveling all over the place. People are more concerned about running out of toilet paper and medicine.

I had to go back to the pharmacy today to pick up my fathers prescriptions. Its just a little small town place but they have fast service and there is never anybody inside waiting around like there is at CVS, Wal-greens or the dreaded Walmart pharmacies. While I was being rung up she tried to up sale (sell) me her last 6 remaining bottles of hand sanitizer. I told her no thank you I have several already and to save them for someone else who might need them. She really did her best to push them on me saying that they were not going to be getting any more in stock in the foreseeable future, then she went on to add that they had sold out of thermometers, Kleenex, vitamin C and assorted cold medicines. Im really very glad I stocked up a few weeks ago. On my way home I stopped in dollar general to pick up some trash bags.. Ive been so concerned with actual food that I had forgotten them. While I was there I checked to see if they had any hand sanitizer.. NOPE. All sold out, and 5 days ago they had over a 50 bottles.

I'm in one of the counties the SC cases showed up today. Was actually on my way to Walmart when the news came out, so i hope we just missed the crowds, because i know this little podunk town isn't prepared. Hand sanitizer is OUT, as are wipes, rubbing alcohol and Lysol. Those things were super low last Friday morning too, but tonight they were empty.

Food is ok, except for big bags of rice. Canned goods looked a little thinner, but by no means close to empty.

Our case is an elderly lady that apparently hasn't traveled sooooooo i don't know what to make of that. We are close-ish to a major business school which I've heard has a large number of Chinese students. And a lot of people here work in the area that business school is.

Well sh!t. The article in the Part 4 thread from Dr. Lawler at UNMC is absolutely horrifying. I wish you all the best, and I hope he’s wrong. I truly do. If this is the case, I’ve enjoyed my life and should’ve done more to do so.
Fun has been key. Family I’ve been fortunate to have.

I am supposed to be getting married in Italy (not far from Naples) in August this year.

Our English guests have bought flights and accommodation already. Wedding Insurance does not cover flight cancellations, government legislation to close towns and districts etc, or banning of public gatherings.

To say we are slightly worried is an understatement!

Oh no!!!! I can imagine the angst about that. With it being in August that's far enough out that you can definitely cross your fingers! Pretty good chance things will have calmed down a bit by then, hopefully! Good luck and congratulations on the upcoming hitching!

My son is getting married next Saturday in Mt. Pleasant (same county as one case in SC as you know) and my mom & sister will be traveling there from that OTHER town in SC. Plus people flying in from different places in the US. Well #. At this point, what do we do? It's been in the works for a year. I will tell you, I am taking Lysol, hand sanitizer, you name it-- to disinfect every surface of the hotel room. Thinking about carrying around a stash of Clorox wipes to use to open doors out in the wild.

How do I suggest to everyone we all head-nod from a distance instead of hugs, etc...?

I just find this interesting (but it is old news)

How Xi Jinping leads China's war against COVID-19
"I have been personally commanding the disease prevention and control work," Xi told World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus during their meeting on January 28, stressing that people's safety and health always come first.

I went to the Dr on Feb 7th and was told I have Chronic Bronchitis. ie trouble breathing, each breath felt and still feels like I have taken a deep breath of campfire smoke and have scorched my lungs, they feel heavy like they are full of wet cotton balls and not enough air is getting through on a deep inhale. I just want this crap to go away. Would Bronchitis be considered an underlying illness since my lungs are already compromised?
