It's up to 2 players now. If you've read the information that's been provided in 4 parts of this thread you'd know it's safe to say they'll probably be more

Okey dokey. Good thing I'm not a pro sports fan, so while I won't miss it, I understand a lot will.

I'm still far more afraid of the results of the fear and panic than I am of the virus.

Because other people’s fear and panic will affect you how ??
Silly thinking really. Why are you so fearful and panicky about how others are feeling?

I see you don't follow the stock market. THAT is what fear and panic result in and yes, it absolutely effects us all, including those neither fearful nor panicking.

I've stated several times here, "The stock market is emotional, similar to horse races and gambling".

But here:

The Federal Reserve took drastic action on Thursday as the stock market meltdown accelerated, pledging to inject as much as $1.5 trillion into U.S. markets to cull the growing panic sparked by the Coronavirus pandemic.

It is other people's fear and panic t hat is shutting down airlines, businesses and basically our very lives.

If it was limited to just some 'feelings' it would be different, but it isn't. Fear is a primary tool of dictators and despots.

It’s kinda hard to downplay another persons fear with your own fear.

If people don’t wanna fly then they don’t have to . If people don’t wanna shop they don’t have to. Forcing them to do such would be something a dictator would do.

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but aren’t we now drifting away from the point of the thread, which is UPDATES and not political debates about fear and stock markets? I’m pretty sure there are at least 5 or 6 other active threads right now where debating the economic and political fallout is the exact point, not updates on details and facts. I’m also aiming that at the “doom porn” and “my family has done XY and Z” posters.

Updates, people. Not debates and insults. Please, for the love of god, this thread moves too quickly already.

But that 40-60% reduction in people getting sick and people going to the hospital (not all go to the hospital, but the potential) is what allows are society to function "normally". So, while the vaccine isn't going to eliminate the virus from spreading, it will slow it's impact enough that life can go back to normal.

Yes, but the point - what I said - was, it won't stop it.

Also, the 40-60% is just a guess, they have no way of proving it... and I'll just leave it at that.

I'm not against it - but I certainly won't be lining up for it.

No clue what you mean. It sounds like you think I said people should be forced to fly or shop against their will? No, can't be, because I obviously didn't.

UK will most probably be one of the worst (along with USA). People don't take this virus seriously... you can see Football games in the UK in the stadiums full of people from everywhere. Explosion of new cases will be too much for the healthcare system.

Yes. Updates on covid-19.
coronavirus.1point3acres.com...

Numbers are crud! This is our citrent numbers when barely anyone has been tested.

I loved the comment several decades back. Watch and look at the curve. Minimize the overhaul on our healthcare system.

Lets slow bleed this in, not gut it in. We can save lives with this mentality.

It sounds like you think people should support the “ economy” instead of being more worried about the Coronavirus .

This world event has been going on for 3 months and nobody knows exactly what is happening or how it will end . If people are afraid of the unknown then that is just a normal reaction to such a world event.

If dick or Jane are scared, it will not affect your life one bit.

Would be pretty funny if the season is voided though, after this weekends fixtures!

Playing behind closed doors is a possibility but players are catching the virus aswell... so... what to do?

Anyhows... UPDATE thread!

2,651 new cases in Italy today.

Just thought I'd mention this. My landlord is a radio show host for the U.S. Airforce Hockey team here in Colorado Springs. He had a championship game to attend in New York state this weekend, and planned to be gone for 2 weeks in case they win and go on to the next round. Well, he just called and said all the games were cancelled. He will be flown back to the Air Force Academy but will require testing for the virus before even being allowed back on the base.

We're at the stage now where everyone is going to start being affected by this in some form or another.

Pennsylvania Governor Wolf just shut down a county (neighboring my county) in PA, Montgomery County.

Governor Tom Wolf said the state will begin to take further steps to prevent the spread of the coronavirus on Friday, including shutting down all schools and other venues in Montgomery County. All schools, child care centers, community centers, gyms, and entertainment venues will be closed in Montgomery County starting Friday. The closures will be in effect for fourteen days. The county has over half of the presumptive cases of the virus in the state. Adult day care centers will be closed. A no visitor policy will be implemented for correctional facilities, nursing homes, and others to be evaluated. Essential services such as police, fire, emergency medical services, and essential services for vulnerable populations will remain. Supermarkets, pharmacies, and gas stations will remain open. Wolf recommended that non-essential retail facilities close. AMTRAK will begin operating a reduced schedule and the Ardmore stop will close to AMTRAK trains for two weeks, beginning Friday. The Wolf Administration is also working directly with SEPTA to evaluate potential impacts and will continue to provide service updates as things evolve.

I agree. I'm in Costa Blanca and as from Monday schools in the Valencian community are thankfully closed.

I posted this back on 3/9, page 282. It looked like in the US the numbers were doubling about every 3 days.

As you can see, I said about 1,600 on the 11th or 12th.

Today, 3/12. right now the US is at 1558, and will most likely break the 1,600 mark later today.

I certainly hope my figures are wrong going forward.

In the US the numbers (confirmed cases) seem to be doubling every 3rd day since the beginning of March. I posted this on Saturday, and it still seems to be holding true.

If it continues, the numbers get frighting really fast. Now this is just based on observation and speculation, nothing more.

3/2 about 100 cases
3/5 about 200 cases
3/7 about 400 cases

Projected based on doubling every 3rd day:

3/9 about 800
3/11 or 12 about 1,600
3/14 or 15 about 3,200
3/17 or 18 about 6,400
3/20 or 21 about 12,800
3/23 or 24 about 25,600
3/26 or 27 about 51,200
3/29 or 30 about 102,400

I seriously hope that it does not double at that rate. In April we will be in SERIOUS trouble.

I didn't feel insulted at all.

Glad to hear it, and apologies regardless.

You can't say we have to protect those at risk without making serious concessions that are going to negatively affect the economy.

My point is there is no need to isolate/quarantine everyone, to protect them (the at risk). You quarantine/isolate the at risk. This could be accomplished without the huge repercussions in the market that come from major disruptions in an already tenuous business environment (due to major supply chain disruptions).

Here is one thing you have said that strikes me as a very simple and effective idea. I mean that...it makes perfect sense.
Probably why it never occurred to me =)

It can only mean a few things...Its too simple for the brightest minds to have come up with... There's something we don't know about COV, hence the extreme reaction... There's another reason altogether that panic level decisions seem to be being made on an international level... Or probably a hundred other possibilities.

Man, this is a TOUGH scenario for me and many people I know to come off the fence on...

Proctor & Gamble is asking all employees (by email) that are able to work from home, do so.
My step-son works there and phoned this in this morning.

No, I'm saying people should not sacrifice the economy out of an irrational fear.

This is the tactic that my family is taking. It is tough though because it requires others to be isolated to take care of them, and they need to have very little to no contact with anyone else. Otherwise, it is pointless.

My mother is 85, multiple health conditions, and just had a medical procedure done on Tuesday. She is staying with us for the foreseeable future.

I am doing my best to protect her, and the rest of us as well, because, let's be honest, none of us wants to be sick for a month.

Tomorrow is the last day I am allowing my kids to go to school. We will be isolated for at least 2 weeks to see what is going to happen. No one in, no one out. We are well prepared to stay in isolation longer if needed.
