Corona Virus Updates Part 3

I've been following the Corona Virus outbreak ever since I first heard the CDC? was sending people to airports to scan people coming from China, which was pretty early on, considering it's only starting to make the main headlines now.

I've been talking about it with my family ever since then and they have always thought I was nuts. Now that it's starting to get "real", it hasn't set in yet still.

I was trying to advise my 15 year old daughter on how to avoid passing germs because she has an ear infection and she we had to go to doc office, and she is like, "YOU THINK I HAVE CORONA VIRUS? That will never happen here."

She isn't listening.

I know 40 people going to Israel in 3 weeks and some going to even more countries. I know people who just got back from Italy a few weeks ago. I'm around these people multiple times a week. It's going to get real, real fast at this rate.

I thought he should have said exactly what I was saying.
Edit to add: I think he should have been a little more confident and more convincing. I thought he seemed a little out of place and nervous.

He is a politician, he has to choose his words carefully, which we all know he is so well at doing. Lol

I turned off the conference after Pence did his talking. They said exactly what any administration would have said.

It's all good here. We have it under control.

US is listed as best prepared nation to deal with CV...according to a Johns Hopkins study.
TBH...this period really sucks.

At some point in the coming months, the country will gradually adjust to this thing...panic will fade...and we'll all carry on.

Husband works for a multi-national. You want to talk about international contacts?



He was scheduled to go to Germany for a week in about 4 weeks, but yesterday the company put out a travel advisory for the EU, and with Germany about to possibly declare a state of epidemic, it looks highly unlikely that he'll be making that trip.

They continue to receive mail from China and he had physical contacts with Chinese in December, and we all went through a flu/coldlike illness in January. It also went around the company he works for. Was it this? Who can say ... but he had contact with the right people from the right place at the right time. It's highly unlikely though because who knows if they had it?

We talked with the in-laws last night, and they wouldn't really listen. Well, not fair mother-in-law wouldn't really listen. She's a total germophobe, so they're fine.

My folks are listening, but I don't get real with them often and they know what husband does, so when he gets real, they pay attention. It helps his company is issuing travel bans and restrictions right and left, but they know; they work with these things.

Well, when the grocery store shelves are barren...

I will still have the storage foods, in buckets and containers to rely on---->

if the forced Quarantines are over 3 months long... then I will have to chance digging up our 3 patches of sweet-potato's which were not harvested last fall...but stayed in the ground (not expecting a wet winter this year)

then will be limited to a sweet-potato & sprout diet, for the duration of the CV rampage..

Fake news, already debunked in this thread somewhere (looked, couldn't find it)...

Not "fake news." Trump fired Tom Bossert in 2019 - he was the one in charge of response for global pandemics. He was not replaced. Tim Ziemer (senior director global health and security and biodefense) left, was not replaced. Luciana Borio, director for medical and biodefense preparedness left - was also not replaced (last two were in 2018).

Because Trump did not feel those were important enough positions to fill. That isn't "fake news," it's fact.

There is no one directly responsible for reporting directly to the White House for things like.. Pandemics. First time since 9/11 in fact. How is that fake? The White House has indeed, sabotaged our ability to respond to something like.. a pandemic. But hey.. we have Pence! Of course, he couldn't even handle his own situation of an HIV breakout. But.. I'm sure he'll be great for this job.

Yeah, I consider myself a little bit of a worry wart also.

I've always had a stockpile mentality, but I can get a little bit comfortable in today's society. This episode of pandemic has made me realize that I need to be prepared as I possibly can, for anything anytime.

We have potatoes also. We do plant a spring garden and last year was our first attempt to can some various veggies.

Only time will tell, it doesn't hurt to plan ahead.

I have a 13 yr old daughter who has asthma and she is constantly chewing her nails. I tried to talk to her about washing her hands and cell phone and not touching her face-mouth. Of course she is 13 and knows it all so in goes in one ear and out the other.

You seriously believe that? He is privy to a hell of a lot more info than you or I.

If its not as bad as the flue why has it shut down China. He's buying time. To be fair what else could he do or say, most will relax and carry on until they don't. China has contained it by using draconian measures on a docile population, if they have contained it.

Exactly... and I still firmly believe (opinion) that there is something else going on in China...
