Whatever that "dash" is, it isn't any kind of standard ASCII. Meta-character of some kind? I pasted the string into a file and then looked at it with a hex editor. The standard ASCII is easy to see; this thing has three bytes to identify it.

This graph from ISS indicates 1,625 dead from Covid-19 as of 15 March. Over 1400 of which were older than 70 years of age.

Mind, my Italian is practically nonexistent, but I think I've translated this adequately.

ETA. I think the report of "2 dead from CV" meant two dead caused directly by CV and not the other problems it creates. By this, I mean,

"The criminal didn't kill that man. The gun wielded by the criminal killed that man." IOW, a nuance that is not apparent in the machine translated version. My 2¢ in any case.

It's intriguing because POTUS picked out that particular tweet to retweet when most other tweeters were using hashtag of #covid19 or #covid—19... just stuck out to me as odd, so thanks for confirming that with your finding!

1) They only included in the numbers those who had a laboratory confirmed positive coronavirus test,
2) 60% Men, 40% women... so it's looking like a mildly sexist virus!

Yea, 180 outta whack.

From a few footnotes on that graph translated:
"The ISS flow collects individual case data with a positive test for SARS-COV-2 diagnosed by the Regions / PPAA. The data may differ from the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Civil Protection which collect aggregate data."

IDK, the 'test' has been changing often and WHO came up with the testing procedures and has it been standardized globally? Who knows what the true numbers are today and ISS may be in step with CDC. I don't doubt 1625 dead but did they all die from COVID-19?? We'll probably never know.
