Chat Room seeds of discontent: Levitationjunkie, ColdAnger, etc...

Well... levitationjunkie and I have had a few chats in the chat room, but I had to leave in the middle of one yesterday, and I invited him to post a thread about his concerns. Since he didn't I thought it might be good to get it rolling.

This is an anything goes complaint thread. Get it out. But don't be insulting and stay within site Terms and Conditions.

It's no secret Lev and a few others have been increasing critical of forum staff in the chat room:

So... let's get the burning issues out into the cold light of day.

The whole Kowalski thing was brought upon himself, especially since you, William, got him to admit a 'few things'. People, especially new people, have to remember, you just can't come in here with both "barrels loaded", so to speak, as he did with his "story", and expect these guys and gals in here, that have been here awhile, to just buy that crap "lock stock and barrel." Ain't going to happen....no how, no way! He got what he dished, my opinion.

And the AV incident........I think just went way out there.

This is a free site. We have all the freedoms to express as we wish as long as we adhere to the "free sites" Rules and Conducts. There isn't a BB out there that don't have some sort of Rules and Conducts listed somewhere. If these are the only restrictions, I don't see a problem...I don't see the NWO in this or controlling this.....I don't see Illuminati written all over those who run the site......diffently haven't seen a Alien or UFO land in here yet......and Bush hasn't declared War on us ....yet.

Folks got to lighten up on this 'being' censorship crap....where else can they go and find equal or better than we have here..............oh, forgot...........they could PAY to do their own forum and have a 'wide open slam fest' which would amount to pure freakin' Chaos...good luck.

If company luvs misery, this isn't the place to be.

i think moderation is good, let's keep ATS from pursuing the video game clan road. that can be taken care of elsewhere. censorship of purposeful ignorance however, i can agree with. if people are being dumb, and they know it, then they should clean it up. however' something about people being talked about in a place no one can get to rings a bell. that much is for sure. we must make sure that the place against corruption does not itself become corrupted as have so many others. we're stronger than that, we are the best, and we cannot let that happen.

I think a lot of the crap that's been filtered out and banned is just simple trolling. people show up and instead of actually wanting to discuss things intelligently merely want to start trouble. it's not censorship, it's crowd control.

So far no one from the complaint camp has chimed in.

Let's leave some room for comments from those who are dissatisfied with the current situation and keep chatter to a minimum until then.

Hmmm, I have one small complaint.

Every time I edit a post, the post itself is deleted, and it's troublesome having to type it out again, especially if it's a long thread. I know you can copy and paste it, but it would be better if it just didn't delete the post text.

Don't mind to sound cheeky though......

What is this? The moderators pat themselves on each other's backs thread? The moderators are more heavy-handed than what I am used to, but I have never been edited. And what's with "a*s*s" being a banned word? How many people are seriouslly offended by that word? Hmm... testing: arse. Okay, I found a nice substitute for that word. It is probably more offensive than that word, anyhow.

I cleaned up the thread.

Let's try to keep this focused on issues which some seem to be very concerned about.

1- Motives for the growth of ATS
2- Censurship of ideas
3- Heavy handed moderation
...and so on...

Keep the chatter turned off until we hear from those that have these concerns.


Freddie: Due to the nature of the important topics of this site, we'd rather not see schools filter the domain because of "naughty words". It's a trade off.

Chebob: That's probably more of a browser issue, why not bring it up in another thread... this thread is for complaints about the management for the discussion board.


So let's hold off the chit-chat until someone with the complaints I outlined has a chance to notice this thread and contribute.

Come on, this is your chance to air your complaints.

I am interested in an informative and frank website with intelligent, experienced, open-minded members.

It's generally the case here.

But I don't know if it would be the same if it had 10,000 members, 80% nonsense, and was compelled to move forward on grounds of commerciality.

As MaskedAvatar said, in time this site will grow and develop. At that time, commercialism will ruin the whole dynamic of your (simongray, et al) vision and ruin all that was encompassed in the origin of ............ATS

I really do want to air these issues and deal with the concerns of those how have issues.

No consequences... no hard feelings... no fights.

I would say that knocking ATS and complaining about the admin and mods is more a sign of pubescent macho posturing than of actual concern.

The silence that has followed this thread shows the level of maturity of the complainers, 'roaches always make for the dark when the light comes on. It won't stop them, but then are they worth it? The more successful you are the more the knockers try and cut you down to their small size.

Well I think William had the right idea about letting the moaner's etc have their say, but, where are they?

If you've got something to say, then for heaven's sake say it!

We all came here for different reason's, too many to mention, if you've got a problem about something at ATS then voice your opinion.

As you said, if you have something to say, say it. Don't hide in a chat room and slag people off, say it to their face!!!

Honestly, I don't think there is enough cencorship and moderation!

I beleive that the forum should be 'purged' of all the worthless threads that have absolutely no infomative content. That should go for the individual posters as well.

We need more filtering!

No more warm, fuzzy threads and posting. We are here for a reason, work. Not a lack of something better to do with our time.

It's time to get down to the nitty gritty, and confront the issues, (whatever they may be).

No more clagging the Today's posts with worthless, unimagitive Chit-Chat topic, ego bosting introductions, and other crap.

Lets start tackling real issues, posting true information.

Posting the fact's or fact based counter arguments.

If this does not happen, then the Admin and Mods should close the thread and file it in the respective recycle bin.

We as a web community, proud of our stated opinion as No#1, require more moderation and censorship, so we may go forward and conqure all that is foreseeable.

And if your not on our side, pack your bags, before your picking your stuff up from the proverbial street.

We need more censorship and moderation!

To stop this place from become a glorified chat site, before it become a cheesy meeting place for singles.

But no community survives by all work and no play. If ATS was just a discussion board, you're statements would be 100% correct (well, maybe 98.5). However, we've evolved past "discussion forum" into "online community".

I think I musta missed those..I haven't seen any warm and fuzzy threads here at ATS..But now that you've mentioned it, think I'll go start one heh!

Anyway, I think ATS has become somewhat of a chit chat oriented forum, atleast for the time being. But things change and I'm sure something will happen canspiracy wise here soon that we can all discuss and debate about again..I do think that *some* members here, not mentioning names though, NEVER ever discuss conspiracy related issues and that does tend to bug me, with all the other chitty forums out there in computer land, why here? However, sometimes it's good to break away from all the serious hatred and talk lovey dovey...so I don't care, whatever blows your skirt up I'm not sharing my love life here, so if someone else wants to, then fine by me..but if you no likey Maddas, you could always iggy the person/people or not read the posts..
