Then how are all these mentally ill people legally purchasing guns?

Because they are LYING on Atf form 4473 which by LAW has to be filled out when they undergo the background check.

Well we obviously can't prevent them from lying, so why not do the research to find out the truth before we just believe them and let them have a gun?

They aren't "just believed." They can answer no on the form all they want but if they show up in the system as flagged, then it doesn't matter if they answered "no."

The issue is that psychos aren't always declared as such by a court or some other body, and if they aren't then they don't get entered into the system.

Though in most states, they could just legally purchase an AR-15 from a private seller on craigslist... No background check required... They don't even need to legally provide any ID.

Do people care about their own rights? Or they just so enamored they support GUILTY until Proven innocent, and is never innocent.

It appears inevitable. They are slow walking us into the gas chambers while the people in line are fighting for the Kool-Aid.

They know how to push the right buttons to get us to do exactly what they want us to do. Even those that see the wave coming, can't out run it.

Then maybe we should have a reporting system in place where co-workers and teachers and neighbors can voice concerns, and that reporting system should be checked for possible red flags.

Cruz pass the background check.

There's no test for what a person might do, and everyone knows it.

How very Russian.

While self-defense and protection of property is a constitutional right guaranteed to Russian citizens, Russian legislation on gun control is relatively strict, limiting the circulation of firearms to Russian citizens older than eighteen years of age with a registered permanent residence, and for the purposes of self-defense, hunting, and sports activities only. The acquisition of guns is based on licenses provided for a five-year period by local police departments at one’s place of residence after a thorough background check, including a review of the petitioner’s ability to store guns safely and an evaluation of his/her medical records. Mentally ill people and those who have been treated for substance abuse are not allowed to possess firearms.

Start with a mental health package cuz i'll be the first one to say my security is worth way more than the momentary amount of money their willing to give me to disarm

My point is, it wouldn't have mattered if he couldn't have passed a background check... he still could have just as easily gone to a private seller... which doesn't even legally require a background check.

Sounds pretty German and Swiss too. Remind me how many school mass shootings there are in those countries compared to ours?

Except many states have universal background checks.

And AGAIN.

Cruz passed it.

By "many", I assume you mean some... right?

And Again... It wouldn't have mattered if he passed a background check of not, since he could have just as easily gone to a private seller... No background check required.

We have those too, AND mass school shootings. Not something to be proud of.

It would not have, but not because of that strawman.

Cruz broke at least 3 different laws.

Lied on ATF form 4473

Went to school with a gun.

Murder.

Private sales have exactly jacksnip to with Florida.

Oh, I forgot the fourth law.

Florida's 10-20-LIFE law.

Who said i was proud?
Not me.
But there is a disturbing correlation between these kids and their mental health that REPEATEDLY gets swept under a rug and somebody screaming out gun control....missing every warning sign these kids give away.

Yea I can't get behind any system that is in place to deny somebody a Constitutional right while relying on your average Joe Blow "voicing concerns."

Denying somebody a right is a big deal, which is why the threshold is placed at "adjudicated mentally incompetent" rather than "well you said some effed up stuff one night and your neighbor overheard it and now you're in our database, sorry bout your luck!"

We should be able to do two things at once - deal with the mental health problem while making sure mentally ill people can't get guns.
