Why not? It would not be me who dictates it. It would be society in an idealistic scenario. If we want to make the world better, we will have to sacrifice some things.

A generation or two may have to bear the weight of only having one baby for the betterment of future generations.

Lowering the population is the best solution to many of the problems that the earth and its inhabitants are faced with. Unless you have a better idea? Or do you just not care about the future of earth?

for one, everything argued to that end is based on fear of revolt. Too bad that fearing something is a sure way of helping it along.

2, We are all human, if a god is among us show me, if not get ready for that mortal coil to unwind all that we men plan and design for.

in other words, treat them like TRUE equals, or they will outgrow YOU.

Knock yourself out.

I don't want to live in a society that thinks so little of freedoms.

Since we did evolve from Hunter Gatherers and meat is part of the natural diet we evolved to eat, I feel no shame in eating what is in fact a natural diet for we humans.

I'm good with the idea that meat should be produced in a humane manner. Having been raised by and around Farmers and Ranchers, I know for a fact they did not abuse animals. In fact the opposite is true. I know bad people exist in the meat industry, but it makes no sense to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

I'm also good with population reduction, but not by force. The answer to that is education it seems to me and in some part a adequate food supply.

Farmers and Ranchers here in the US in the past had lot's of children to survive. The same is true now of third world countries where farming methods are similar to ours many decades ago. Asking those people to not have kids is the same as dooming them to failure and starvation. This is not an easy thing to accomplish I think.

One thing I know is that extremists need to stop trying to force their views on the world. In the early 1970's when I attended college we were taught that we would be in an Ice Age by now, the tree's are supposed to be dead above the Canadian border by now, Oil all gone and ...................................... It was all wrong and in some cases it's still the same people spreading this new hysteria. They always assume that we have reached our limits as in the case of what an acre can produce and yet we produce many times that now.

You can have all your precious freedoms while you're living in an overpopulated slum, breathing in toxic air, and eating your torutred low-quality meat.

Or, you can sacrafice a little and suck it up this generation or two for the betterment of humankind.

I do not think so little of freedoms, and that is why i call it a sacrifice. It's not about giving away your freedom. It's about sacraficing your desires for a better future.

Since evolution resulted in a diet change, doesn't it mean we can continue to evolve and change our diet again? Are humans permanently attached to a diet established thousands of years ago? If we changed our diet once, we can do it again. Read my previous posts on the foods you'd need to substitute meat. It's simple.

It's a sacrifice if YOU do it.

It's an authoritarian state if you make others sacrifice.

Just accept the fact you want an authoritarian state.

When food prices rise, they rise worldwide. A shortage of affordable meat would quickly drive the prices up on produce as demand increased and supply dwindled.

There are plenty of ethical farmers and ranchers. The problem lies with population. We live in a capatalist society and a higher demand for meat WILL lead to more and more effecient animal farming. The more effecient, the more the animals suffer.

It doesn't matter how many farmers believe in ethical practices. Those who choose to farm animals with ethical practices will be out capatalized by those who do it cheap with more yield.

I should not be forced to change my diet, because another chose to.

I've lived through the gloom and doom predictions by science once and this is round two. They simply do not factor in that we constantly improve our methods and capabilities.

Sensible would be to improve methods of producing meat that are better for the animals and the environment. A simple additive to the diet of or change of diet for cattle could reduce cow farts for instance. Extremism or fanatical points of view just see the sky is falling and logic goes out the window IMO. We don't need to stop eating meat, we just need to get better at producing it.

It's a sacrafice if we all do it. By the way, can you make any other point than pretending like im calling for a george orwell's 1984 scenario.

As ive said many times, it would be something that society would agree upon. Now, lets hear an argument that doesn't resort to, "der gonna take me freedoms!".

Ending meat consumption isn't a sacrifice for anyone and it isn't an indication of an authoritarian state.

Factory farming is harmful to animals, people, and the planet itself. We should have laws to prevent the harm of such things.

We have laws against shooting and murdering people. Why? because it hurts others. We have laws against burning down buildings, stealing, raping... Factory-farming is something that hurts others, not just the user himself, but others. It is the equivalent of second hand smoke. You may choose to get cancer and die from smoking, but I shouldn't be forced to along with you, so go smoke outside. Do it on your own terms. If you want to eat meat, go hunt for it yourself.
