I gave myself up to the police just as your kindergarten picture said I should do and I ended up with for broken bones in my face and one in my shin, 9 staples, and a chest confusion from 6 boys in blue. My first and only encounter with the law. I'm sure you have a relative that's in law enforcement to give you such a one sided view of how it's never their fault and the suspect is always to blame. I'm a law abiding citizen and this has made me fear police when I'm just walking down the street. Google Cody Mize Shasta county mugshots ( that's me), I got on my knees hands behind my head as ordered and still ended up a bloody pulp. But keep blaming everyone else instead of recognizing that any position of power will attract those willing to abuse it.

Very easy but some folks can't seem to follow.

Not all that protect our streets fit into this category, but you are absolutely right that some do.

No, that's a solid depiction of cops here. The only thing missing is the beer gut from stealing donuts and shots fired after the suspect had to scratch his shoulder or something.
What the pic doesn't show is the 50-something IQ of the officer. What a shame.

If approached in public then they are investigating something; if you have not committed any crime you might fit the description of someone that has. So either you speak to them or not, the not will make them even more suspicious making you move up on the suspect ladder... but nothing says you have to speak with them. Last one I saw in public while walking towards eachother like anyone else walking down the sidewalk we made eye contact, I didn't smile or nod yet neither did he... neither breaking stride he placed his hand on his gun; and we walked past each other in about 8 more steps... lol do I look that intimidating or is he just a bit too paranoid walking the beat maybe both?

In or on a vehicle best to do what they would say with a gun drawn on you; before one is on you and initial contact is made. aka keep your hands where they can see them and dont move... then when asked provide what they ask, and what they ask for have it quick and easily accessible and altogether in one place; even before being in any vehicle. If you are a passenger and not the owner of the vehicle then you have no business with them whatsoever as their business is with the driver/owner of the vehicle. Just exercise your right to remain silent on top of the dont move and keep hands visible, typicially they have no business with you either, unless the driver/owner has an issue of some nature.

Your choice in how you wish to proceed at that point... as a passenger it is a good idea to know who the driver is; would they have something on them or in the vehicle that makes you suspicious? Like a gun or contraban for interstate commerce? Thats what the other laws or power given to them have branched off of making them revenue generators instead of just responders/peace keepers.

I grew up with the notion that police men are your friends and protectors. My real world experience is different.

Cop experiences I've had:

1. Detained illegally for over an hour in adverse weather so that 4 different officers could illegally search my car while taking turns interrogating me. I admit I fit the profile of a drug user, but did not have any drugs at that time.

2. Got pulled over for speeding 2mph over. Told officer was heading to gun range to practice. Yanked out of van, slammed into the side of it and handcuffed. 7 charges, only the speeding and possession dangerous weapons stuck.

3. Detained for 2 hours because I wouldn't let the police search my home without a warrant. I kindly told them the person they were looking for was not there, yet they believed they were since I refused search. Was threatened multiple times,

4. Got pulled over coming home from the bar, admitted to drinking, submitted to and passed sobriety checks. Was let go with warning for rolling the stop sign.

One could say it was just bad cops vs nice cops but I believe it was profiling and my attitude that explains the differences. I was polite and well dressed when I got pulled over on #4. Ironically its the only time I feel I should have been arrested... But I did ace those tests, I guess I'm lucky no breathalyzer....

If you aren't part of their white boy club, this method does not work. Perhaps, a mirrored response would be appropriate.

In Toronto, Ontario, Canada, there is a place called Cherry Beach. It is an isolated spit of land out in an industrial district where there is no one around.

Any homeless person who has lived in Toronto knows about Cherry Beach. They know that sometimes when you are put into the back of a police car, you don't get taken to the station. You get taken out to Cherry Beach.

Maybe your experience when pulled over for a traffic infraction is that being polite keeps you from trouble. It's not that way for everyone. Poor people have interactions with police for different reasons than you might, and under different circumstances.

I can tell you from firsthand experience that police will treat you differently if you are clean and well dressed than if you are dirty and shabby.

I have had guns pointed at me by police. I had one of the officers tell me he almost shot me. It was due to an erroneous report that I had a gun. The fact that I didn't have a gun did not result in any apologies for nearly shooting me, not any lack of congratulations amongst the officers for how well they performed. They didn't seem at all bothered that they had nearly shot an unarmed person. (Yes guys, nice takedown. Hard for it not to go well when the suspect is actually unarmed.)

Also they did their best to pin some charges on me despite having arrested me for incorrect reasons.

Wow your serious? Feel free to show me someone who was killed for a tail light being out. I hate to burdt your bubble but police dont go to work trying to kill someone. Its irresponsible statements like this that get people killed. Someone being stpid reads your statement and instead of listening to officers gets defiant and ends up dead.

Are you forgetting Walter Scott? Shot in the back and killed during a routine traffic stop for a tail light (different light but irrelevant) just 2 years ago.
The case where the cop pleaded guilty for killing him. Stating he had no reason to shoot him in the back.
This is just the one caught on tape.

No but you arent telling the whole story you forgot to mention him attacking the officer and taking his tazer. Yes the officer was wrong shooting him when he was trying to flee. However if he hadnt fought the officer in the first place hed still be alive. Irresponsible comments like yours cause people to attack police and get themselves killed.
