I've been feeling the same way about the polarization. I have a serious feeling that another Democrat is going to win the Presidential election again, exposing that the hateful rhetoric of even the mainstream GOP candidates isn't going to get them elected anymore. This will herald in more years of increasing divisive politics. At some point that divisiveness needs to be addressed or it will boil over into violence.

When your number one enemy is your political opponent, that's what happens. Anyone who truly thinks hillary is the answer is more or less supporting the future violence because so far it's her and obama that think the right are their #1 enemy. That's their greatest threat along with global warming. How a person can't see that ridiculousness is beyond me.

Are there any Hillary supporters on this site? I'm yet to see one. Plus, I agree with Krazyshot. I haven't thought of muslims at all today until I started reading ATS. I won't say I haven't noticed an issue. But I don't wake up fearing for my life and don't think banning all muslims is the right answer. Sorry I keep adding to the post, but banning all muslims would be the same as banning all christians. The extremists of each of the religions spread hate in similar ways.

I think it's safe to say that the only fearmongering Trump is doing is to the left. Man, I've never seen you guys so worked up over one person like this, besides Bush. The more you people get scared and try to label Trump with yet another ridiculous label, the more his popularity goes up. It's almost like the more the left hates someone, the more popular they become. Lol. I didn't support future President Trump until he was asked about his former support for hillary and his explanation of how he used to be a democrat and how he was changed. That's when my skepticism for Trump began to fall, that's also when his popularity began to rise more, so I'm not the only one that felt that way about him.

Does anyone here that disagrees with Trumps idea of closing off the country to Muslims, have a better idea to protect Americans from a (Islamic) terror attack?
We here politicians talk constantly about protecting the country and it's citizens.
If we are actively at war with a certain type of individual, wouldn't make sense to keep that type out of the country?

I'm sorry, but there is no excuse for defending Trump's rhetoric anymore. We need to just label it for what it is and push to get him removed from running for the Presidency. He's hateful and divisive, and we don't need divisive. ESPECIALLY divisive on purpose (which is what Trump is).

Why because you say so?

No, because it's wrong. I don't know about you, but I was raised not to hurt other people and that includes saying hateful things.

Oh I get it, because one of the biggest jokes in journalism besides msnbc the huffpost said so?

Fox news is a straight up legit open honest news source compared to huffpost. Which is hilarious, because I would believe I was on fire even if I saw the flames if fox said it.

Lol. It's amusing to see you desperately try to defend intolerant behavior and rhetoric by deflecting onto the messengers.

Well here in the real world, we dont treat people with kid gloves.

Glad you were mommy and daddys special little snow flake, but in the real world, nobody cares about your feelings.

In your version of reality, hurt feelings trump facts.

Grow up. You know what I mean. Just because we can say intolerant things doesn't mean we should. It's mean and we can explain our positions and grievances rather easily without using hateful rhetoric. It's called talking things out and it's the adult thing to do instead of just yelling ignorance at the echo chamber to get back patting.

In reality, your feelings can not be hurt by anyone but yourself, because have to allow the oppinions of others to influence your own self worth, they cant do that for you, only you can allow it to happen.

In reality it has nothing to do with my feelings. It's just the right thing to do.

Just like I cant make you angry, it is you that decides to allow my oppinion to effect you in such a way.

It is why we have an amendment that guarantees me the right to offend you, and not one that guarantees you the right not to be offended.

I hate this rhetoric. Just because we are allowed to be intolerant and hateful doesn't mean we should. Whatever happened to the Christian ideal of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you? I certainly wouldn't like things like that said about me, so I know that I shouldn't be saying them myself.

Glad ya asked... They're getting done to them, what they're doing to us. It doesn't just apply to Christians, you knew that, right?

Instead of voting for someone because he's a good candidate, you want to vote for him because he makes the other side upset. Perfectly sums up GOP politics for the last 8 years of so...

He's a national hero. The fact that he has money means he's smart

The fact that he says what others won't means he's brave and incorruptible

He'll do what's necessary - and nobody will have to worry about their conscience because a smart, brave, incorruptible man can't be wrong. He holds this nation and it's people close to his heart and would only do things in order to protect them

Sometimes life presents us with situations where our options are limited and we are forced to consider solutions that - frankly - seemed impossible not long ago. He's said this several times. People begin to see the wisdom in this and nod along

He obviously saw that this country was ripe for the picking. Maybe he's been waiting for an opportunity that he realized would inevitably present itself and he's been waiting out the decades for the right moment

In my fantasy, at some point he steps down, addresses his supporters - laughs and says: You all should be ashamed of yourselves

I just don't think he's that kind of guy

Until the name "Saudi Arabia" enters the debate regarding Muslim extremism and terrorism, don't expect any real solutions to occur either.

the Saudi Kingdom does indeed export weird, fundamentalist Islam to the modern world

but how about this point:

Now consider the over 125 Million women today who have been genitally mutilated for Islamic honor's sake. In spite of what apologists tell you, the practice is almost totally confined to Islamic areas.

New information from Iraqi Kurdistan raises the possibility that the problem is more prevalent in the Middle East than previously believed and that FGM is far more tied to religion than many Western academics and activists admit. – “Is Female Genital Mutilation an Islamic Problem?” ME Quarterly

Once thought concentrated in Africa, FGM has now been discovered to be common wherever Islam is found.

There are indications that FGM might be a phenomenon of epidemic proportions in the Arab Middle East. Hosken, for instance, notes that traditionally all women in the Persian Gulf region were mutilated. Arab governments refuse to address the problem. -- "Is Female Genital Mutilation an Islamic Problem?" ME Quarterly

Remember that this has gone on for 1400 years; and was imposed on a population that had been formerly Christian or pagan.

FGM is practiced on large scale in Islamic Indonesia; and is increasing.

...far from scaling down, the problem of FGM in Indonesia has escalated sharply. The mass ceremonies in Bandung have grown bigger and more popular every year. -- Guardian

Fundamental Islam supports the barbaric act of FGM.... & there are over 125 million females all over the Muslim World that have been forcibly mutilated in this manner under the Islamic rule working in that area/village./region/nation

let's stop the migration of the people which support this practice...
I bet Muslim enclaves like Detroit have many women/girls with this grotesque & forced upon operation conducted upon them here in the USA in the 21st century....
land-of-the-free indeed

I really tire of this argument about how Muslim countries do human rights violations therefore all Muslims are bad. First off, there is this thing called self-determination that this country is supposed to celebrate. Pointing out the human rights violations of other countries as a pretext to invade or subjugate them is the opposite of self-determination. Do I disagree with those human rights violations? You're damn right I do. But there isn't much I can do in the States to change this. Clearly many Muslims don't like it either, since they are moving out.

Second, when fanaticism takes hold, # like that is what you see. If Christian fanaticism took hold of this country, you'd be seeing similar # in short order. So don't talk to me about what Muslims are doing in other countries. Worry about what they are doing here. Is it legal to mutilate a women's sexual parts in this country? No. Then that means the Muslim will go to jail if he tries. What's the problem exactly? Where is this assumption that Muslims that are trying to immigrate to this country won't obey the country's laws coming from?

That's an uncomfortable question to ask considering the recent events with Robert Dear. What if Christian extremism continues to gain momentum? Do we round-up Christians and treat them like Muslim extremists?

If not, why not.

What these Christian Right wingers don't understand is that they are advocating for the very actions and policies that may be used against them if they continue to radicalize.

I can only hope, but so far his candidacy has broken all the odds.

Just because you and some others despise the guy doesn't mean the majority agree with most of what he says. Would you rather have a president that's incapable of anything but telling lies?

But that's all that Trump does... Everything he's said has been fact checked as lies.

Right now we have a problem with muslim extremists threatening to kill us, and killing us. Only a crook would think that letting in any muslim, before we fix this problem, is a good idea. I know you're already thinking about right-wing extremist sovereign domestic terrorists, but they're already here. In other words, we have enough problems on our hands. Would you like it if we were letting possible right-wing sovereign terrorists into the US?

*eye roll* More fear. I'm tired of fear. Are you afraid to wake up, go to work, spend time with your family, have fun? Because I sure as # am not. Not after 9/11, not after Obama became President, and certainly not now. It's all fear talking. Everything you just said.

You know what fear is? Thinking that we should vet Muslims and only Muslims, just in case. You know what being the better man is? Saying, "# that! I'm not giving into fear. If something bad happens, we'll deal with it, but let's continue as we've always done." Y'all are letting the terrorists win.
