At least 220 dead, 450 hurt in stampede during Hajj outside Mecca

At least 150 people were killed and around 390 injured in a stampeded during Haj outside Mecca according to Saudi-owned State Television.
Rescue operations were under way, Saudi Arabia's civil defence service said on Twitter.
A few days back, over 100 people were killed when a massive crane smashed into Mecca's Grand Mosque.

New updates from Saudi Civil Defense says 220 dead and 450 Injured, considering the amount of people that visit Hajj a stampede can be rather dangerous. This is the second tragedy that is striking Hajj in such a short span of time. Those who are gleefully celebrating or rejoicing the news can kindly stay away from this thread...

No...Cranes falling and stampede in Hajj is not something which happens every year. Usually these things are well organized by the Saudi's

Reading some of the comments from the article is depressing,people are so hateful its a sign of the times i suppose...

Some 2 million people a year do this pilgrimage every year,thats a lot of people its no wonder that tragedies happen when many people converge all at once...crazy stuff

In 2004 244 worshipers were killed in a stampede during the stoning of the Devil ritual.

Mecca and the authorities have a woeful safety record and this is very sad that they have not adjusted their safety criteria based upon "lessons learned", then again, dealing with 1 million + over a relatively short period of time is next-level logistics.......especially when most are highly charged emotionally.

Terribly sad (but predictable and therefore possibly preventable) news.

Why target me for the hypocrisy on the link ? I am just surprised at the lack of empathy people have and at the same time complain how "Muslims" are evil...
