a reply to: AgentSmith well you should know the NUS are not involved in making policy that effects the way we clap. Yet you've taken a tweet from one member, who does not represent all students and run with it. One tweet. I'm sure I could scour Twitter for tweets I didn't like, but would I make a big deal out of it. Just ignore it and get on with your life like most people do.

Yo getting outaged by something that won't effect your life in any way.

If you read my posts you'd see I was getting outraged by them (as in social justice types) in general and not this specific incident, mainly because it has affected my life.

Personally, i find this hysterical. Pathetic sure but still hysterical. To be honest though, if there i would simply ignore them. It is a request, nothing more. If i enjoy the speech, i will clap. If not, i won't. And nothing anyone else says will influence my behaviour there.

If this sub group in the NUS don't like it? Tough. Really, what could they do? Most students need a short sharp introduction to the real world in any case - the world doesn't revolve around you and the sooner you get your precious little heads around that concept, the better for all.

All those folks were in attendence at the meeting under discussion? Really?

Did you have a guest list or something?

Oh, wait ... you're still just trying to slam feminists at large, not the topic under discussion.

My mistake.

What they said were disgusting. Why should I as a man be labelled a rapist amongst other things whilst being told most men should be exterminated. Not my fault that women were and still are being oppressed in certain ways. Maybe they should tone down what they say instead of coming across as the vile man-hating idiots they are.

And maybe my quotes were a little off topic but my point is is that I have absolutely nothing against women's rights and other rights for under represented groups. But this thread just shows how ridiculous we are becoming and the fact that it's connected to a group that include a load of man haters makes me annoyed.

Haha, It helped a lot! It reminded me that I should probably be off of here watching shows like the Simpsons, rather than hang out here on ATS...which has lately just been stressful as hell! Thanks for inspiring me to leave for a while, lol...

As someone who has dealt with severe anxiety, this is complete BS! When your pulse jumps to 200+ and you feel like you're having a heart attack, that's anxiety. And let me just say that people clapping has never triggered such an attack. These people are looney, out of their minds.

Oh, I forgot.... What I did was to take some quotes I found and post them which is pretty similar to what you've done in response to another post and backed it up with a link. So no guest list but you can use links but maybe I'm not allowed to copy and paste a few quotes? OPPRESSION!

Dang. I thought you were "done with me." Oh well.

In rough order of your expectorations above ...

Look above. Different types of college grants and TV channels do not make "special rights."

Are there "special rights" then for players of golf? Well, according to you there is, because there's a Golf Channel.

Are there "special rights" for veterans, folks over 30, and A students? Because there's grants for them too.

I don't hate white people; I'm a 49 year old white guy. You're just blatantly making stuff up now.

State a policy of "the black community" about the Ferguson riots, and then we can talk. You haven't actually referred to anything thus far. You seem to think that you've proven something when you refer to it. 'Fraid not.

Can't say what is blinding you, but something is. Perhaps you don't like being challenged with the facts.

I didn't use "Hobby Lobby" et. al. stop being dishonest and disingenuous ... I used the 20 new state implementations of the various "Religious Freedom Protection Acts" which do indeed set up artificial classes for the religious. Another example since you can't be bothered: Georgia RFRA

"Knock it off"??? Gee Sarge, I think I'll say anything I want on topic and within T&C. Why don't you make a valid counterargument or go sputter at someone else. I've shown you clear evidence now on TWO occasions for my assertions about these new efforts, and you've done nothing more than stick your fingers in your ears and yell "Nyah nyah" back.

The Cake Thing is off-topic because it doesn't have anything to do with the OP. I asked you a simple question about a mistaken assertion that you made, and now you're trying to blow it up because apparently you can't accept that you're wrong.

Perhaps you need to look up what evidence is. Can you cite where gays are covered under Affirmative action?

You don't owe anything to me, but if you can't prove what you state as fact (and you haven't) then you sure as heck do owe the community here either back up or an apology for your doubling-down on your mistakes and wasting screen-space on an off-topic rant.

In fact, if you don't come up with evidence for your claims and keep sputtering don't expect a response; this is way off-topic.

Best,

I'd say that religious trauma is a bit different than sexual trauma. Sexual trauma can occur over a long period of abuse. Religious trauma tends to be something that happens all at once. Both are awful, but I'm pretty sure you don't have to be a psychologist to say that they effect the brain differently.

What you did was to take some quotes that you think emphasizes the anti-feminist arguments in the thread. You didn't make an assertion and then back it up with evidence, which is what I did. See?

You can paste whatever you want. But your quotes have nothing to do with the topic of changing hand-claps with "jazz hands" and nothing to do with the group or their organization or the point of their meeting, which is the OP.

I just wondered if you had some special knowledge that wasn't apparent. You didn't. Matter resolved.

Yes, because we all know that you are the end all be all on what causes anxiety. It can't be that some people may have different triggers than others. Nope, because it doesn't happen to you then it doesn't happen. Thanks for the anecdote...

So your experience of coping with anxiety is the beginning and end of everyone's problems, everywhere?

Why is it a matter of accusing them of mental instability? It was their meeting, and as a group they can decide how to run it!

What in the world is the problem with that? Are you all just this rabid to criticize Feminism?

When was the last time you ever heard of anyone experiencing anxiety from people clapping?

Ok so why announce it? It's their meeting after all.
