the Texas plan i think would be a fun experiment. Deport all gun owners to Texas legal or not and remove Texas from the union and cut off all imports from the US to Texas, and observe the results.

I think we need to do a better job identifying and treating mental illness, not just for mass shootings, but for all related crimes to this issue.

Keeping the guns out of the hands of the mentally ill by way of working on the core of the problem.

Treatment towards finding a cure or at least a plan of working towards managing the illness properly.

Sure!

When you limit yourself to only one side of the issue you will enter into a verbal battle with a small weenie.

The smart money is on the guys that have listened to both sides of the issue and are much better prepared.

The lower crime rates are in areas of the country that have passed the Shall Issue weapon laws.

That comes with experience. Right now, psychiatry is in its infancy as a science. We only just started exploring the brain and its intricacies like 100 years or so ago. For comparison, chemistry traces its roots back to alchemy which traces its roots back to ancient Greece. Knowing that, I could never trust any government sponsored diagnoses that label someone mentally incapable of owning a firearm. Our knowledge of mental illnesses isn't advanced enough yet. Maybe someday that will be the case, but not right now.

Agreed, I am not that altruistic where I feel I can sit back and let a 'impartial' government make a determination on my fellow citizens. Government has repeatedly displayed the fact that it is inept, inefficient and frankly, dangerous.
