UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on Tuesday called on Kiev authorities to use only peaceful means, including political dialogue, to restore state control in eastern Ukraine engulfed in violence, his spokesperson said.
"The Secretary General is alarmed by the continuing violence that we have seen over the weekend [in eastern Ukraine]," Stephane Dujarric said at a news briefing at UN headquarters in New York.
"The Secretary General urged that the restoration of state control over the government facilities be achieved by exclusively peaceful means, namely through an inclusive political dialogue," the official said.

"Unidentified people blew up the railroad between the towns of Krasnohorlivka and Kurakhovo in the Maryinsky district early in the morning," the source said. The attack disrupted railroad traffic between the two towns. All trains that were to follow this track to Donetsk were asked to take another route bypassing the danger zone.

Moscow is ready to discuss state border issues with Kiev, as previously requested by Ukraine, but would first like to know what problems they suggest discussing, a Russian deputy foreign minister Grigory Karasin said Tuesday. "Such a meeting is possible in principle. [But] it is important to understand what the Ukrainian authorities mean by requesting such consultations. If we get clarifications on this, such a meeting will be possible," Karasin said.
"There has been no clarification so far. Kiev earlier sent a diplomatic note to Moscow requesting joint measures to be taken on the border between the two states. We have taken this note seriously. Currently our corresponding agencies are trying to understand what this means, as the Ukrainian side provided no clarification on the issue," Karasin stressed, adding that it was also essential to find out what particular specific situations on the border were the subject of negotiations.
Earlier on Tuesday Ukraine's Border Guard Service reported that it had detained a number of vehicles filled with AK-47 assault rifles and explosives, which had allegedly attempted to cross the Ukrainian border illegally from Russia. Ukraine's Border Guard Service said it had notified Russia of the incident and called for immediate measures and the prevention of illegal border crossings.
The Russian side later denied the reports saying that it could not confirm the fact of illegal border crossing by Russian vehicles. This is not the first time that similar cases were reported by the Ukrainian authorities.
On May 17 the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry sent a diplomatic note to Russia in the wake of significant deterioration of the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border, triggered in particular by cross-border criminal activities.

This is SO sad its hilarious.
Press TV has conducted an interview with William Jones, with the Executive Intelligence Review from Washington, about Ukraine accusing Russia of stealing energy resources in Crimea and threatening to take Russia to court over its recent gas price increase.
What follows is an approximate transcription of the interview.
Press TV: Mr. Jones, first of all can Ukraine take Russia to court over the gas price increase, or is this just part of a war of words that’s getting worse day by day?
Jones: Well they can’t and it is but not only a war of words, it is a reflection of the overall fight that has been going on between the West and Russia, it is really the case and Ukraine is kind of in the middle of this but is playing something of a role.
And I guess they can’t take them to court although it seems as if the EU is going to try to come in and bail out Ukraine, in spite of the fact that the European Union economy is in very, very bad shape. Their limits for aiding Ukraine are much more limited than one might think but they are trying to resolve this crisis, at the same time that they are beating the drums against Russia themselves.
If this continues, then of course there will be a tit for tat and whether they go to court or not will not make a difference but there will be an energy war in the context of what is threatening to become a hot war between the West and Russia.
Press TV: And of course Russia has also threatened Ukraine to stop sending gas to Ukraine. I mean what will the consequences be if this happens?
Jones: Well it would be terrible for Ukraine, which is in very bad economic shape as it begins. There have been a lot of promises made from the West, a lot of illusions about how to provide gas to Ukraine coming from the West but there is really no indication where that is going to come from since most of the Western countries in Europe are also dependent on this Russian gas and oil.
It seems to me that the only solution for Ukraine is that if they try and move in a direction of working together with the people who have protested and have declared their independence in the east to try to come to some kind of resolution within Ukraine which would bring down the tensions with Russia as well, otherwise there are serious problems ahead.
It is not much fun to be in Kiev these days. The revolutionary excitement is over, and hopes for new faces, the end of corruption and economic improvement have withered. The Maidan street revolt and the subsequent coup just reshuffled the same marked deck of cards, forever rotating in power.
The new acting President has been an acting prime minister, and a KGB (called “SBU” in Ukrainian) supremo. The new acting prime minister has been a foreign minister. The oligarch most likely to be “elected” President in a few days has been a foreign minister, the head of the state bank, and personal treasurer of two coups, in 2004 (installing Yushchenko) and in 2014 (installing himself). His main competitor, Mme Timoshenko, served as a prime minister for years, until electoral defeat in 2010.
These people had brought Ukraine to its present abject state. In 1991, the Ukraine was richer than Russia, today it is three times poorer because of these people’s mismanagement and theft. Now they plan an old trick: to take loans in Ukraine’s name, pocket the cash and leave the country indebted. They sell state assets to Western companies and ask for NATO to come in and protect the investment.
They play a hard game, brass knuckles and all. The Black Guard, a new SS-like armed force of the neo-nazi Right Sector, prowls the land. They arrest or kill dissidents, activists, journalists. Hundreds of American soldiers, belonging to the “private” company Academi (formerly Blackwater) are spread out in Novorossia, the pro-Russian provinces in the East and South-East. IMF–dictated reforms slashed pensions by half and doubled the housing rents. In the market, US Army rations took the place of local food.

Western propaganda about events in Ukraine has two main purposes. One is to cover up, or to distract from, Washington’s role in overthrowing the elected democratic government of Ukraine. The other is to demonize Russia.
The truth is known, but truth is not a part of the Western TV and print media. The intercepted telephone call between US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland and the US Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt reveals the two coup plotters discussing which of Washington’s stooges will be installed as Washington’s person in the new puppet government. The intercepted telephone call between Estonian Foreign Minister Urmas Paet and EU foreign policy official Catherine Ashton revealed suspicions, later confirmed by independent reports, that the sniper fire that killed people on both sides of the Kiev protests came from the Washington-backed side of the conflict.
To summarize, when Washington orchestrated in 2004 the “Orange Revolution” and the revolution failed to deliver Ukraine into Western hands, Washington, according to Victoria Nuland, poured $5 billion into Ukraine over the next ten years. The money went to politicians, whom Washington groomed, and to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that operate as educational, pro-democracy, and human rights groups, but in fact are Washington’s fifth columns.
When President Yanukovych, after considering the costs and benefits, rejected the invitation for Ukraine to join the European Union, Washington sent its well-funded NGOs into action. Protests broke out in Kiev demanding that Yanukovych change his decision and join the EU.
These protests were peaceful, but soon ultra-nationalists and neo-nazis appeared and introduced violence into the protests. The protest demands changed from “join the EU” to “overthrow Yanukovych and his government.”
Political chaos ensued. Washington installed a puppet government, which Washington represented as a democratic force against corruption. However, the ultra-nationalists and neo-nazis, such as the Right Sector, began intimidating members of Washington’s stooge government. Perhaps in response, Washington’s stooges began issuing threats against the Russian speaking population in Ukraine.
Areas of southern and eastern Ukraine are former Russian territories added to Ukraine by Soviet leaders. Lenin added Russian areas to Ukraine in early years of the Soviet Union, and Khrushchev added Crimea in 1954. The people in these Russian areas, alarmed by the destruction of Soviet war memorials commemorating the Red Army’s liberation of Ukraine from Hitler, by the banning of Russian as an official language, and by physical assaults on Russian-speaking people in Ukraine broke out in protests. Crimea voted its independence and requested reunification with Russia, and so have the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
Washington, its EU puppets, and the Western media have denied that the votes in Crimea, Donetsk, and Luhansk are sincere and spontaneous. Instead, Washington alleges that the protests leading to the votes and the votes themselves were orchestrated by the Russian government with the use of bribes, threats, and coercion. Crimea was said to be a case of Russian invasion and annexation.
These are blatant lies, and the foreign observers of the elections know it, but they have no voice in the Western media, which is a Ministry of Propaganda for Washington. Even the once proud BBC lies for Washington.

"... the quantity of pro-Kremlin trolling on this topic … which has been documented extensively since 2012 as a real and insidious threat to online communities of idea and debate, has rendered commenting on these articles all but meaningless, and a worthless exercise in futility and frustration for anyone not already being mind-controlled by the Kremlin."
On 23 April the writer complained again: "One need only pick a Ukraine article at random, pick any point in the comments at random, and they will find themselves in a sea of incredibly aggressive and hostile users (the most obvious have accounts created since February 2014 … but there also exist those who registered with the Guardian before the high point of the crisis) who post the most biased, inciteful [sic] pro-Kremlin, anti-western propaganda that seems as if it's taken from a template, so repetitive are the statements. Furthermore, these comments are consistently capturing inordinate numbers of 'recommends', sometimes on the order of 10 to 12 times what pro-Ukrainian comments receive."
Luke Harding, the Guardian's highly experienced former Moscow correspondent, who was expelled in 2011, is in no doubt about the nature of the campaign and how damaging it is to debate in the threads. From Ukraine, he said: "It's a well-attested phenomenon in Russia."
On 7 February 2012 the Guardian reported: "A pro-Kremlin group runs a network of internet trolls, seeks to buy flattering coverage of Vladimir Putin and hatches plans to discredit opposition activists and media, according to private emails allegedly hacked by a group calling itself the Russian arm of Anonymous.
'Countries shouldnt have gotten involved unless invited or asked for help'.
Dragon,I have to agree with you on this. And that is exactly what Autonomous Republic of Crimea did by asking Russia
after referendum to let it be a part of Russian Federation.

Im really beginning to wonder if the sanctions are starting to have a larger effect than Russia is letting on maybe thats the reason Putin seems to have changed his mind?
One internet source projects that Putin will let the drama in Eastern Ukraine play out for a month or so and then invade formally to get Eastern region independence.
Makes sense, the separatists defeat the Kiev forces by themselves would be a bonus for Moscow otherwise Russian army is standing by.
