OK on topic.

Just where does 5 Billion dollars go when you try to force a regime change in opposition to the peoples democratic rights.

5 Billion is an enormousness amount. Where does it go. Who gets paid off. What do they spend it on. Certainly was not weapons!

I am at a loss to understand why it should cost 5 Billion.

At least Russia is more in your face, here we come (Well OK, they snuck in first)

As with everything "covert" you have to "grease the wheels".

Thinking about it in the "big picture" sense, they thought they were going to get a foothold forever in the Ukraine, so 5 billion over the long haul isn't all that much.

You have to have on side people within the government you want to overthrow, the press, the tv, businesses, the you have to pay the street guy's, and finally your own operatives...and all this you can't do overnight, it takes time and effort, so you have to speculate to accumulate, as it were.

And lets be realistic...of that 5 billion maybe only 1 was spent, the other four dissapeared to be used on other project's. They just have to justify numbers.

After all Rumsefeld still can't account for the missing billions (trillions ?) from the pentagon, can he??

Yes, I get all that and I can see where 100 million can go, even 200 million, but 5 billion?

That would make 5000 millionaires! And they have spent it, it is gone, wasted!

Guess as there has been no war declaration, or escalation, and that there are no more "updates", we can assume all is not as bad as western media proclaims? I mean, Putin should have invaded eastern europe by nom right?

09:08: Pavel Gubarev, a Donetsk activist who pro-Russian demonstrators want to see as local governor, tells reporters that people "are ready to take up arms to defend their interests", but adds that he does not urge them to do so - live relay on Dovosti.dn.ua website. (BBC Monitoring)

After this:

08:57: Ukraine raises a flag over the government headquarters in the Ukrainian city of Donetsk after evacuating the building, which has been occupied by pro-Russian demonstrators. A police statement says the evacuation began after reports that the building was booby-trapped with bombs.

Donetsk is a major eastern Ukrainian city bordering Russia.

Couldn't it be that there wont be a war at Putin is doing exactly what he says?
Taking control of his bases in Crimea and then waiting for Kiev to get its act together?
It makes no sense for Putin to try and take the Ukraine when the entire world is not going to allow it.
Neither want to risk a war, Crimea is practically Russian anyway.

I love your updates and your contributing a lot to this thread, but there has been 0 indication that Putin intends of kidnapping Ukraine on some hell bent invasion plan.

No you see, this is not a conventional war, Putin is calling his forces, pro Russian militia.

Just now on BBC, Russian forces are back on their bases in Crimea, Russia says. As we see he is technically doing what is says as he is not calling this own forces 'The Russian Army' by changing the names by which he calls his army, he is doing exactly what he is saying.

Just today there were calls by Russian backed people in Donetsk to take up arms, and form militias, now this is purely my speculation, but I think this is another name for 'the self defence force' the same self defence force in Crimea now. Actually this call for forming self defence forces is being echoed throughout eastern Ukraine. And as this calls are echoed, the Ukrainian border guards report massing of Russian hardware on the other side of the border.

Logically if only Crimea is taken by Russia, Ukraine will surely join EU and NATO. And will Russia want the NATO army right on his doorstep?

Anyone can make militia's, I think Putins coy words for his Crimea forces don't apply to the militia!

Crimea is Putins men.
Anything else are militia that you'll probably find Putin tries to keep limited. Putin doesn't want the gains he's made ruined by a lawless mob.

It doesn't make sense for Russia to march on Eastern Ukraine. I don't think he will and all the fools squealing about Putin being the new Hitler will look pretty stupid.

Putins had to deal with NATO his whole life. NATO on his door step is a mute point because NATO is toothless and relies on air power now a days, not ground forces.

Considering NATO were always there when the Black Sea fleet was always in Crimea, Putin has probably gained a stronger defensive line AGAINST NATO!

One of the criteria for joining NATO is a secure border and no internal conflicts isn't it, so they can't?

That's off the top of my head so it might be wrong.
