Loveland man arrested on child exploitation charges

A 51-year-old Loveland man has been arrested on suspicion that he distributed child pornography.
Stanley Romanek was arrested Thursday in the 3900 block of Ash Avenue on felony charges of sexual exploitation of a child.

According to police, the arrest was the result of a months-long investigation into tips provided by the Department of Homeland Security.

The warrant for Romanek's arrest called for no bond, but after an initial appearance before a judge, the terms were modified to a $20,000 personal recognizance bond. As of Thursday night he remained in custody.

While the arrest warrant was issued Wednesday, the initial search warrant on his computer was served in April 2013.

Okay, I don't take the man at his word and thought his "experiences" were ...well... extreme? No... silly? Yeah... overdone and silly.

That outta the way, I've always thought one way for the gov to shut someone up is to charge them with child porn... I mean who would ever stand up for someone involved with that?

But I have no idea and just wanted to go against the crowd... I'm ornery that way.

Once I see all the info, I bet I'll regret this post... in fact I already do... but just puttin' it out there.

Edit: And I'm reminded of scientists who believed in spiritism who caught mediums faking and came up with elaborate explanations, like the spirits made the mediums fake it obviously to stay hidden, and same thing with some poltergeist cases were the over zealous investigator caught a kid faking the phenomena and postulated that the "polt" made the kid throw objects and then erased their memory... yeah...

But even though people fake this stuff for money and attention, I also know weird stuff legitimately happens ... and people are suckered in precisely because it does happen... so... ?

Child porn is bad (a bad, bad thang), but why would the DHSecurity have anything to do with it? I've never heard of this guy, and probably would haven't given him the time of day, but since when is Houselanded Security working on child porn cases?

If he was trading child porn with someone outside of the country that could be a reason.

The DHS actually includes those that investigate this type of crime.

Coincidentally, Col. Wendelle Stevens, another prominent UFO researcher and owner of one of the largest private collections of UFO photographic evidence, was brought up on similar charges by the CIA. You have to wonder, despite what you may think about Stan's evidence and experiences, here's someone who has documented repeated home break-ins, gov't surveillance, wiretaps, and repeated hacks/intrusions of his computers going back to the early 2000's, yet he is stupid enough to keep child porn on those same computers? I know he was on the verge of releasing a professionally produced documentary. What a perfect way to frost that endeavor. I don't buy it. Clearly a setup by TPTB IMO.

I think he's great! I had a good laugh. I think he could make some money selling his "experiences" as spoofs.

I'm not sold on the child porn accusations. However, anything is possible.

Homeland Security is involved because the agency that tracks / investigates those crimes became part of DHS when it was created (I want to say Customs as of right now). They in turn work with state / local law enforcement when it comes to cyber crimes. Due to the fact computers are involved, and the transmission of child pornography crosses state lines, the feds are usually involved in one form or another.

DHS oversees a lot of federal agencies that used to be their own entities. They have "streamlined" some of the overlap between those agencies. In addition to crossing state lines, computer transmission also cross international boundaries, making the feds lead agencies in some of the investigations.

As for speculation on why DHS is doing this now.. The warrant initially was served in 2013 and the arrest just came on the 14th of Feb 2014. Its not like this just happened...

This post is correct also.

The argument against the allegations being a smear against Romanek is that he's been demonstrated to be a fraud many, many times over the years. Why smear a man whose reputation was that of a scoundrel anyway? Who'd go to the trouble? By extension, when the guy was such an absurd fantasist, why take any of his (or wife) tales as truthful?

Until the case reaches court, these are just allegations. Nevertheless, there is a great deal more evidence that people distribute child pornography than any of Romanek's claims of fathering alien hybrids and being 'abducted' every other week. Furthermore, *if* Romanek does time for distribution, it's not like there's a shortage of similar chancers making similar claims is it? His crazy tales won't vanish from Internetland if he gets sent down so there's no incentive (as I understand it) in smearing the guy.

If guilty, some folk won't believe it and he'd likely be back on the UFO conference circuit within weeks of release anyway. A couple of comments in this thread tend to support the idea...

Looks like Romanek may have seen this coming and attempted to lay the foundation for reasonable doubt.

What a fraud. It's obvious he's doing it. Crooks like him give the paranormal field a bad name and it's unfortunate for investigators who catch REAL paranormal activity. You'd think this clown would know better.

Agreed. The flipping theory is laughable, you can't prove it's not ghosts. The video remains unexplained.
