The thread wasn't originally in the ''Gray Area''.

Also, most of the vitriol so far on this thread has been towards those asking for details.

Some of us don't feel the need for sugar coating, a question is a question, a suggestion is a suggestion, if people can't handle the need for determining facts then they shouldn't be reading the thread.

Unless more details are given it is a time waster of a thread.

I have been civil through this entire thread, and have not once attacked anyone or done anything other than try to offer a possible explanation for what the OP might have witnessed. I have been courteous, put in my own effort and time, and extended my patience.

Apparently all of that amounts to ripping someones head off and crapping down their neck. With that, I'm done with this thread. Have it your way.

The thread is thirty pages long. She already said she had some pretty substantial family issues going on at the same time, hence her absence. There were two or three other posts with small halo images or links embedded. I am willing to bet she just hasn't looked at them yet. Antar is not the type to ignore something. I believe she is looking for answers, whether they be a 'normal' occurance or not. Let's give her some time.

Hey West.. your post made me think... we have had VERY cold weather here lately. We also had snow/ice a few days ago.. and ae getting a round of snow tomorrow and Wed. It was incredibly bright and cloudless today. Those things taken together can make the halo.. according to U of Il Atmospheric Sciences and Space.com skywatching archive. In Sullivan Mo in Dec 2013 there was a rare colored sun Halo for those reasons. The halo may not be related to anything at all but the darned cold weather here.

Ya. I heard about those billion dollar runways. Seems that the airlines that did fly out of MidAmerica were short lived in the commercial business. Perhaps someone wants to keep those runways for themselves.

Didn't Mid America apply for a spaceport license when they were building it? That's what I seem to recall. It stood out in my mind because I didn't know we had a need for spaceports at that time.

Well.. thats one I havent heard. LOL! I know .. it was like 1-2 yrs ago.. they were talking up the chinese hub thing.... but maybe the spaceport talk was before I came here.

I'm fairly certain it was back in the late-1990's when I read about it in the paper. Here's a link that talks about it: A New Space Race

Trust me, I don't sugar coat either. I am very blunt. However, there is a difference between seeking the truth by asking good, sound questions and just attacking someone.

I'm not going to get into a debate about a debate...I just wanted to give my own reminder that we can certainly disagree, but not be rude about it. What do I consider rude? Any kind of derogatory comments, name calling, declaring someone a 'liar', questioning their mental health.

I have not seen ANY 'vitriol' aimed at anyone just asking questions. Long time posters who are familiar with Antar know that she would be the first to ask those questions and welcomes them. But in a mature, ATS worthy way.

You didn't see it because you weren't there.

I was verbally attacked in a very mean way by a few posters for polite suggestions about giving more details of the event and suggesting it sounded like a military / aviation exercise.

Immediately after, a mod removed the offending posts and the thread was closed for some time.

Yes, you are right. We normally associate halos with a change in the weather. I see them often now. I still don't know if it's just because I am looking, or if there is a change in the weather pattern over the past couple of years. Probably both.

Anyhow...Unless what she saw was dramatically different, it was most likely a coincidence. Certainly doesn't discount anything else though.

You are correct then, I didn't see the exchange. Sorry that happened, I'm glad that the posts were removed.

I can say with some certainty that Antar wasn't one of the posters that flamed you. Like I said, she would welcome questions, which I am sure is one of the reasons she started the thread: to figure out what she saw.

I don't want to get this thread off track though...sounds like it already happened once. Still hoping there are some other witnesses, because I am sure she would love to figure out what she saw.

A summary so far:

OP 'heard a boom'

OP seen planes 'scrambling' round an 'object'

Planes make sonic booms

Missiles and planes are objects

OP seen a halo round the sun and confirmed it looked like a sun halo

OP is near various Air bases and Aviation test sites in a non populated area that is used for test exercises

There aren't any other reports at all yet from others in the area of anything similar.

So here we have it, there is at least a 99% chance that the jets seen made the sonic boom and the halo was a sun halo.

Sonic booms from jets and sun halos aren't ''HUGE events''!

As for the burnt face, no details so could be anything, sunburn, rash etc.

But, by it's very description, the Gray Area precludes that very thing now, doesn't it.

That is why it is the Gray Area, that is the purpose of moving the thread here. It does not require proof in this forum, as other forums do.

People are supposed to be free to discuss events or happenings here, without those demands being made, and, as you pointed out, it was not her decision, but a mods.

Now, if someone wishes to ask questions, aid in research, that is another thing, but mods have already posted, Kosmick Jack, in particular, that this forum has different requirements.

All details suggest it was a sonic boom and a sun halo, nothing about it suggests anything else.

Wow who thought a sonic boom could cause this much hostility in everyone. Look it sems to me several people here are taking things as personal attacks and reading it i havnt a clue why? So why dont you guys switch a little and give advice on tracking it down. Since as i posted earlier Boeing does test flights and has been caught before by the local news why not call them and ask i doubt they will lie. Thyl just say we cant discuss that or no it wasnt us If there a bust call the local sheriffs department. The local sheriffs get all kinds of weird calls and if that is a bust call the news and ask who knows they make look into it they apparently did time boeing tested aircraft. And finnally never forget the FAA they file every report known to man.
