Well, I guess an EMP could qualify in that regard, but that is obviously a very indiscriminating weapon. It would knockout everything (friend or foe). I suppose you are referring to the dead birds in the one report. An EMP wouldn't do that to living tissues. microwave energy could do that kind of damage (no sound). I remember (in the military) when the techs were cal the radar on ship, everyone had to remove head gear comm equipment due to possible damage. They sometimes even fried flocks of seagulls who were in the wrong place.

Maybe it is an EMP. Could be Russias' "Scalar EM Weapon", or any possibly "black" weapon test.

Maybe they are the echos of the explosives under the WTC towers?

Having lost someone at the WTC, I'm at loss when trying to find the humor.
Maybe it's just me...

I Agree... There is no humor in the loss of over 3000 of our brothers/sisters/moms/dads on that day. Civilians/pawns in a much larger game being played by our so called leadership.

Very Poor judgement and taste in that post.

Are the booms from a central location or vary, could be someone cruising around with some type of acetylene cannon (non projectile noise making) or making dry ice bombs, harmless but annoying after 10pm to say the least!

Has anybody tried to check if it correlates in any way with the weather?

I'm leaning towards thunder, perhaps from storms many miles away and propagated anomalously.

Or massive construction projects with explosives. Say like another Undisclosed Location for our cyborg VP.

Dragon I live in Danville Va. Do you remember the Earthquake that was felt in Richmond all the way below Lynchburg. The strange thing about that is there are NO known fault lines in Virginia. The sounds are completely confusing, and I do not believe they are harmless. Is Va in danger if so I need to Move
.
If you find anything else about these strange "boom" sounds please post
. I haven't felt or heard anything In Danville yet.

there is a very small fault line in Va. but is so deep and has been inactive for so long that it was omost forgotten about untill that quake. in the past year it has unleashed 3 very small quakes under 2.0 on the ricktor scale. i found that out when i went looking to see if there was any volcanic activety in the area (i know sounds like a unlikely thing in Va. but i was running out of options) no lava flows forming,or methain gas pockets blowing.

Howdy folks...

DRAGON27, just a thought...

Do you by any chance live near a petroleum plant, or any other type of plant that has smoke stacks ?

Reason I ask is, I do and we hear booms like that at least once a month ( sometimes more ), from what I'm told the booms ( yes the ones around here occur at night too ), are the cleaning out of the stacks...

Just a thought...

Get 3 buddies (or more) spaced out in the area and outfit each with a compass. When booms occur, phone each other and go outside and note direction on compass. All 3 (or more) do the same thing and then plot location and directions on a map to find intersection and then get in car and bingo you will find your source if it is in fact a point source.

It's true the atmosphere can reflect sounds from a great distance away depending on conditions/inversions. There are also lightning monitors (sound and pressure sensors) everywhere so the data should be on the NOAA site if they are in fact picking anything up. I think the range is like 40 miles so one of them should be lighting up when the booms occur. There are also USGS sensors near any faults which should also pick up any vibrations that are moving the ground.

There are also natural resonances in the atmosphere the so called Schumann Resonance and I think that was down in the 7Hz range with a second harmonic around 13Hz....

no just within a 1/2 mile ofa nuclear power plant. if the booms came from there my grieger counter would read more than it all ready does. im not just reading background radation, but its not storger than a x_ray. im hearing 10 to 15 booms in 30 min. from all drictions.

Othet that that I don't know what it could be...

Maybe a new discovery of the elusive "Farting Mole" the Scalopus Flatulus a variant of the eastern Mole the Scalopus Aquaticus....

You could be famous if you could catch one as to date they have never been caught. Be careful though as up close the sound is very loud so wear ear protection if you are going to go after one and the smell.... hee hee
