Theres a news article on this today.

Many of you called our newsroom over the weekend telling us about the mysterious booms coming from your neighborhood. Sunday, residents reported four booms in the Hermitage area sparking a community meeting with city officials to talk about the ongoing problem.

I can't believe the this has gone on as long as it has. I have been following this thread for some time now, and that last post link to the news report screams total incompetency. I realize my statement maybe presumptuous on my part. Considering I live nowhere near this problem.
I just can't believe local and federal government has not been able to solve this "Mystery".
Simply shameful...

they dont seem to care all that much. all the talking and lack of doing on their part is proof that since its not happen in their neiborhood they dont care. and the govener of Va. cares even less since hes not comeing back next year. so the way this noise will stop is if we(the people)help our selfs. we find the source and kill it!!!!!!!

I live in laval, quebec, canada and about 4 months ago during the summer i heard a strange pattern of booms in distance aswell. It was like a heartbeat in the sky. We were questioning the origin of the booms and things like thunder, fireworks came up, however everyone eventually agreed that it couldn't have been either because of the rythmic pace. It's no coincidence the a lunar eclipse occured shortly after the booms....There is more to the story but everyone here is just wating to prove other people worng so screw it.

heres an interesting thing that Azaz3l stated...in the midst of these booms, NO Car alarms are going off....WTF..so much for the m80 theory
jk but seriously...this goes back to magnetic or wavelength booms, can our ears be decieving us, like when they Ring... could a magnetic or wave weapon give us the illusion of the booms.. still waiting for Dragon to get back from vacation to upload the recording for analyzing. How can we be hearing booms, feeling houses shake, and it not cause car alarms (that the neighbors cat sets off) to go off??? The Plot Thickens

It is not magnetic! I have built a VERY powerfull can crushing magnetic coil with giant capacitors. Without the can in the ciol to add to the noise it makes, it only makes a dull "thud" that you can almost hear.

XL, until it comes out just what exactly it is, You cant say, one way or the other that "its not magnetic!"

Investigators say they've found several "presure-producing devices." Here is a link to the news article:

Now sit back and see if the noise has stopped.

Anyone got pics of the devices?

Excuse me if this hasn't been pointed out, but it's late here in Vancouver and I need to sleep soon. I'll read the thread later on tomorrow.

For decades the Vancouver - Victoria area has been expecting a massive earth quake, due to the fact that not many happen here, or at least at a noticeable scale. My guess is that it coudl be tectonic plates moving or collading, but if this happened I'm sure people would hear more than just a noice. I will try to find more information on this.

I know the kid that was arrested for these "booms". What I have gathered from the neighborhood talk is that this kid and a few others were using some kind of aluminum foil and Draino (or something like it) and closing it up in plastic bottles and throwing them in the sewage and/or rain drains. It apparently takes a little while before the pressure builds up enough for the bottles to explode. They learned how to do this over the internet. I never heard of anything like this, so if I got something wrong about it, sorry. I'm sure someone reading this probably knows more about the process than me. And, it doesn't take much to tell other kids in other cities in chat rooms etc. how to do the same thing. Silly prank, but I think the kid's in some serious trouble for it.

Edited to remove the links, decided it probably wasn't the best idea to post the recipes.

I don't think the kids made lots of those and timed em to go off every so many seconds at regular intervals. Why would any one make that many, instead of making only a few large ones?

as a kid i made them and had the timing down to a art,but i never made one that rocked a house. i even made one out of a 55gal. pastic drum and there was all most no shockwave off that one but i did go deaf for 3 days from the boom, but that was a 55gal. drum you cant get that in storm drains.

I was at college and got some dry ice and put it in a 2L bottle and put it on the ground...nothing happened..we stopped people from coming near the bottle cuz it was on a sidewalk...we threw rocks at it and after the pressure got so high the loudest boom went off that we've ever heard...our hearts were thumping and we went home and hid under the window level after changing clothes because the police came ...we were so scared
