Chucking it down here in W Yorkshire, windy and my Cat also has refused to go out he has stayed in for 24 hours and used his litter tray for the first time.

I wish mine wouldn't! Even when the weather is nice, they go out, saunter around the garden then come inside to poo...

Very windy here in Cornwall but this is only the beginning

Mm! Time to take the hanging baskets down me thinks! Have weighed down anything else I suspect could take off in the wind.

Think I'll take a 'before' photo of the garden and another tomorrow, to measure the devastation. Also time to charge the iPad so I can keep up with you all when it really takes off.

Woke up thinking about all of you, are there any news casts which could be linked for us to see the storms current path? The data from the storm teams can be a real life saver in these types of weather events. Stay tuned to your local news for sure and keep us informed.

Love to all of you in the storms path.

Yes, its most definitly in the post boys and girls. Very windy here on the S Wales coast. I posted this on the other thread, my younger daughter is oddly very excited by it all. I remember the 87 storm, i was 19, ive been trying to explain Sarah how bad this is going to actually be, I mean windy weather is one thing, but if this going to be like 87 then is going to be crazy.
My rubbish and recycling bags go out tonight for tomorrow morning, not gonna bother putting the plastic out, and am in two minds about putting out the black bags.

This is as good a page as any for checking the weather

Looks like the SW will start to get pummelled some time early this evening, with the bulk of the South taking the strain by midnight/early morning. However, what isn't mapped there is the wind, so I presume that the wind will hit long before the rain arrives.

I do not believe a word of thsi report - there will be no massive storm.

It is just the press and the met office being alarmist.

Calm down Britain - there is no storm - just a bit of rain and wind on the way !!!!!!!!!!

It is hardly hurricane Katrina - a fuss about nothing as usual is what I say !

Love your avatar ..

Yes of course - it is all made up.

Seriously I do not believe a word of it.

why ? It is the modern British way - make a 'fuss about nothing' see all the fuss about 2 inches of snow.

Honestly the Canadians and Americans are a much more hardly bunch when it comes to adverse weather - the British are ' fuss pots''

Its still not as windy as yesterday here in Devon, but its quite wet. Me and my son had great fun with our kites yesterday and when we got home our neighbours sun lounger was in our comunal garage area, he obviously thinks its all scaremongering as well as he has just put it back and left the canopy up, I imagine when his recycling is blown all over the street he will just leave it for the rest of us to pick up again, he is definately one neighbour I wont be in a rush to help out if all hell breaks loose tonight
Sorry of topic rant over

Some media outlets, such as the Express do love to hype it, but at the same time you shouldn't be dismissive. The BBC has been quite "middle of the road" and matter of fact. 80mph winds are not to be sniffed at, trees will be blown over, houses will be damaged and somewhere, sadly, someone will be most likely be injured or killed.

The main issue with tonight's storm is that it's the first time we've had very strong winds in the south for some time. Atm it doesn't look like being quite as bad as models were suggesting a day ago, and certainly not the armageddon that certain newspapers would have you beleive - though still bad for a part of the country that doesn't often experience gales.

It actually looks like next weekend's storm could be worse: whilst the very strongest winds will be over Scotland, the whole country will be very windy and we could see more widespread damage in the south as trees etc, weakened by the storm tonight, finally succumb. Of course, that's also based on model predictions and it may all change. Certainly looking very unsettled and autumnal as we head into November!

1000 without power as a tree has fallen onto a powerline in Berkshire. It's a bit early I thought but there you go.

It doesn't get live coverage on TC as such (we don't have a Weather Channel) - the best place to see what's happening (and to get genuine expert opinion) is somewhere like the forums at UKweatherworld.

(which, for the record, I'm a co-owner of)
