People who have grown up with MTV and other such things have been programmed into thinking that this is normal.

No, Miley's performance is not normal. By any means. Childlike imagery mixed with sexual imagery is not right, nor it is normal.

Growing up from being an innocent child straight into taking ones clothing off in front of the world and dancing suggestively with bears is not a normal progression of life for a young girl into a woman.

I never accused her of being 'normal'. I don't even know exactly what 'normal' is, which is why I try to avoid ever using that word at all.

'Normal' is based solely upon opinion. It can differ from one person to the next. Just because something is not 'normal' to you, does not mean that it cannot be normal for somebody else.

With me when there was over sexualisation in videos, or drugs or anything like of this nature. I didn't buy the music. Because I felt that it was just pushing unhealthy behaviours.

And plus as much as I appreciate some music, the content of the music that is, I don't always feel the need to see them sort of " semi naked" be them male or female.

Just spoils things for me.

Oddly, Cher criticized what Miley Cyrus did, even though she herself sported " thongs" in one of her concerts showing off her buttock cheeks. It makes you wonder, do they even know what they are doing when they do it?

I also recall Madonna saying she regrets her " sex " book, are they in a daze when they do it?..

It seems the shock value is perhaps a price they feel they need to pay to stay famous.

It makes me sad that there are this many replies to this thread on ATS, or that there are that many people supporting it. Yes, I know I am contributing to this thread, but I am not here to talk about Miley.

I am here to talk about the alluring nature of a train wreck. I never pay attention to celebrities. But when I kept hearing about this, I couldn't help my curiosity. Why? I have my theories, but i would like to hear others first.

Also, I would like to add that while yes, sex sells, it can be done tastefully and it can be done trashy. Miley did it the trashy way.

Well I have pointed out Cher and her thongs on stage.

Madonna and her orgy displays.

Beyoncé and her bottom jigging, very similar to twerking .

And these women are at the height of their fame.

I think she is doing what she believes needs to be done to stay at the top.
