I don't get it

Horrible change. There was nothing wrong with the old layout. Seems to be a lot of bugs also.
Why the change? Was somebody bored?

I had the same problem last week during the 'test'.

It was a Firefox setting on Win7.

Nope, it's not that. After the most recent "changeover" a few minutes ago, the icons are now appearing correctly on the new ATS look.

I'm on my mobile now and I have to say that the desktop version is much better and user friendly than the mobile version.

Mobile is far too cramped and big and very difficult to navigate.
I almost always use the desktop version of sites anyway, even on my mobile, but the ats mobile is particularly difficult to use

When this thread opened I was surprised to find ATS in a new jacket. To be honest I feel more comfortable in the old setup. Maybe I need some more time to adjust and will I after awhile not want to go back...

Then lead a member project to find or create a collection of smilies that I will agree fits well with the new site design.

They must be able to work as a CSS Sprite (PNG or JPEG) which means no animated GIFs.

The current (new) smilies are an ultra-efficient @webfont, which is part of the reason. If you and the member find or create a nice new set of smilies, I (seriously) will integrate them into the new site.

Good and bad.

You know I honestly think the only real thing I like about this new style are:
1) responds better to higher resolution
2) has icon bar at top for quickly navigating

But... it comes at a cost:
1) Less colors
2) Less contrast
3) More whitespace
4) More and bigger icons
5) Less information at-a-glance

I'm just being straight and honest.

There're I'm sure functional additions that're better, but at what cost?

Nothing is free in this life. I feel like I have no choice in this matter, except to go elsewhere if I preferred something about the old style. Obviously, I won't go elsewhere based only on these issues alone, but still I DID leave myspace when they pulled this same stunt. On myspace, users lost a lot of their content and lost some functionality too. Obviously, some of them remained and were able to readjust everything, but some left. I tried to stay and tried to readjust, but my page felt corporatized and lost its soul somehow.

Can someone help me figure out how to login to the mobile version? All I see is the join option.

Unless, by whitespace, you mean empty space, then you ought to take advantage of the dark option for the UI. Its the right most icon , which looks like a half moon.

Im no expert but cant we just use the jpg versions of the old smilies instead of the moving gif's?

There have been many changes over the years my friend, you just have to put up with it.
Every time a load of members leave because of an issue (and we've lost many, many great members) a whole batch of new people join.

It makes no difference to ATS whatsoever.

It's always been "our way or the highway" so yeah....tough but what can ya do?

Go to ACCOUNT. You can change it there at the bottom of the page.

Oh gosh, change the skin of the forums from eye-killing white with black letters to black(dark grey) background with white letters as it was, this is just horrible. And it used to be so much better for the eyes... I can't stay around with that bad change.
