I feel safer here in Britain than I do in America. If our soldiers had guns on their time off, we'd most likely see more suicides and more murders, much like we do see in America (soldiers killing themselves, soldiers going haywire). Or maybe it's just Americans who are a bit crazy? Switzerland has lots of guns, but a low rate of gun crime...

Luckily, I believe that our troops here in Britain are civilized. If it was anywhere else, the soldiers would probably mutiny and go on vigilante retribution. I trust our soldiers not to do such things - or rather...I hope.

Having spoken to a few serving and ex-Servicemen, and one woman, I can only say that if they are representative of our Armed Services then whilst they are royally pissed off and very, very angry I very much doubt they are about to take the law into their own hands - they are professional soldiers.

But they do expect some sort of action from the government - I'm not sure what sort of action will appease but I'm certain that the typical flowery words and spin will not suffice.

He says Allah Akbar.....Then someone else screams shoot him again...then, you hear the police addressing to them...What is disturbing is no one seems to seem like anything is happening as walking by...Third world terror in England...

In Northern Ireland, it was routine for every soldier to be armed at all times. Even going to the supermarket my dad was packing and he was an Engineer, not a combat soldier.

We might see, if this turns out to be a new and repeated tactic, our soldiers being routinely armed, if covertly.

Do you think the "tightened security" on London army barracks is to protect the soldiers, or is it more likely to be a lockdown to stop them going out and retaliating?
