I AM APPALLED that this has happened in my country. Religion is being used as an excuse to commit a barbaric crime. I hope the two people responsible are left to rot in prison and never let out.

I'm hoping they rot in hospital, in excruciating pain for the remainder of their miserable existence, as long as it's not a quick death... and go easy on the pain killers doc.

Because to wish pain on someone who has caused pain makes perfect logic? Regardless of how disgusted and appalled I am at this sickening offence, it just makes me sicken at the thought of more violence.

I guess my stomach for violence is a little weaker than yours. Or maybe I think enough is enough.

So? I know plenty that wouldn't.

My ex, when I called to her to say two dudes had tried to rob us at knifepoint on my way home from the pub, came barrelling up the street with a wine bottle ready for battle...

I can, speaking of constitutions, maybe this headless chap would still be breathing if he had a better one.

He certainly has a better one than the American constitution, funny since the former is copied in many aspects by the former.

"...Its about mentally disturbed,violent,stupid people,period....."

Nonsense. This is about muslims engaged in Jihad. You can equivocate as much as you like but it will not stop the actions of Jihadis who are motivated by the ideas and goals of their Islamic culture. Islamic culture is not concerned with the survival and propagation of non-Islamic cultures. Indeed, each Friday, calls to Jihad are issued by imams in mosques across planet Earth.

"...mentally disturbed,violent,stupid people....", indeed.

Couldnt your arguement have applied to the Crusades?
Or maybe the Spanish inqusition?

Or are we forgeting the butchering of millions of muslims by christians, with the blessing of the pope?

All people of any religion can be violent.
It dosent define the religion, just the individual.

Because they invited people to watch, film and record what they were doing and many bystanders actually tried to intervene and find out what the hell was going on.. It seems it was clear they had no intention of harming "civilians" and were waiting for the cops to show up...

I doubt they needed to invite such behaviour. It's more likely they realised everybody was already filming them and the mouthy one thought "May as well make the most of my 15 minutes."

This is what the Jihadis seek. Passive dhimmis who willingly submit to their muslim masters.

It is weird to witness the process of dhimmification.

Stay calm. Submit. Convert.

Yeah , no intention to harm civliians after they chopped the soldiers head
behavior of some of the people watching is very strange .

They were probably there for quite some time, they're body language appeared calm. Humans can act differently than we think in extreme situations.

It is a freedom thing, not many outside of the US get it.

And by that reckoning, even fewer inside of it.

Most likely

Londoners, the rest of the UK aside, are a pretty resilient bunch and it takes a fair amount to phase them. Most witnesses thought at first this was "just another" ..insert event here... I think it was only during the incident being filmed did it become apparent just what had happened, by which time most people were fairly sure of their own safety...

Don't you worry petal. Someone else will get their hands dirty dealing with scum like these to keep you safe.

You can go back to your Earl gray tea and your Guardian.

Not really.. It is actually quite normal behaviour. Had it been seemingly random, not targeted, people will run but in this situation where it seems a person has been singled out, then people will not flee and some will intervene.

We have a word for such people on this side of the pond...

IDIOTS

A headless guy is bleeding on the road, and two guys are carrying knives and machetes, and you're going to sit there chatting with them? Or, get the hell out of there?
What the hell?

And that would be you, beefcake?

How heroic. Let me get back to my earl grey while your gulp down your Brown Ale. Manly gulps.

I think this shows how desensitized we in London have become to violence.

England is a funny place these days...I mean who stands there and films some syco nutjob like that, close up, after he has just cut someone to bits, right in front of them???? Did they think it wasn't real life or something????
Another thing I cant understand is if this was outside an army barracks, couldn't the army have come out and dispatched these two lunatics? instead of waiting 20 minutes for the armed cops?

People get stabbed every day, it's the cops job to handle it. Why would the army come and cause more chaos?

Now if this was a small army out to kill more people, then yes that would be a wise choice.

I think most Westerners, if not most humans, are desensitized to violence.

More chance of being robbed and assaulted in the UK generally
reply to post by GrandStrategy

The burglary and assault rates are higher in the United States, along with rape, homicide, gun crime...

You don't have random blips of certain types of crimes happening far more often in the general population, it doesn't work like that despite what NationMaster says.

So on your side of the pond, when someone gets attacked in the street, it is normal behaviour to run and scream like a bunch of little girls? C'mon... I'd like to think good American citizens wouldn't act like that. They'd react in pretty much the same way as we did over here. In fact, we saw plenty of such behaviour after Boston with people running towards the explosions to help those injured, even if they weren't official first responders.

Like I said above, most witnesses at first thought it was just another RTC or mugging, to which they are quite insensitive too..Only during the actual filming did they realise quite what was going on, by which point many are transfixed. Others did try to intervene as well, which I hope is a trait which you don't lack over there too...
