Graph supposed to show 3 days period (but is actually only 54 hrs worth, because there was a big gap after that, next event was at 74:17:27hrs, outside the parameters of the graph). I should have set the end time to 72hrs, too late now I've lifted it and loaded to ATS already

That 4.0 has a really shallow depth listed.
That will get a few peoples attention; 255 already responded on the DYFI page

Thats another thing that sux about the new USGS event maps and list, the locations
who the heck knows where Rancho Palos Verdes, California is?, I certainly didn't by the name and going by some of the other locations listed I thought it was out by Palm Spriings, but its offshore south of Los Angeles, and why list "586km (364mi) W of Phoenix, Arizona" what relevance does Pheonix have? none that I can think of.
The whole things a mess.

Why not list 50km SW of Disneyland?

5.0 or 5.2

5.1 on the CDN site. You'll note the Chalk river nuke plant is not shown. In fact the town of Deep river, just west of Pembroke has been removed so people can't use it as a reference point on the CDN site.

Well now we know the difference between a 5.1 and a 5.4 [3 years ago, June 23rd]. In a 5.4 the attic rafters groan like there is a demon chained up in there.
With a 130 years old field stone foundation on this old farmhouse [Even though it's 5 ft thick] and no re-bar, I think this place would be flattened by a 6.0.
I'll be re-morturing up some old bricks again.

Here you are Muzzy, pick your favourite location naming from this Japanese quake.

Prov,Date/Time UTC,Latitude,Longitude,Magnitude,Depth(Km),Location
jma,2013-05-18 05:48:00, 37.700, 141.600, 5.9, 50.0, Fukushima-Ken Oki
gfzp,2013-05-18 05:48:00, 37.760, 141.430, 6.0, 48.0, Nr. E. Coast Of Honshu. Japan

emsc,2013-05-18 05:48:01, 37.751, 141.559, 6.0, 60.0, Nr. E. Coast Of Honshu Japan

3 of these give me a fairly good idea of where the quake. Can you guess which three. Sorry no prizes for a correct guess.

earthquakes.wikia.com...

Bloody geo-kids are taking over with their silly i-phone programs

I'm sure that 99% of readers don't know where half the places are.

I see that USGS have reinstated the Theoretical P-Wave Travel Times at least, that is some help to for us oldies who want to match the graphs with the events.
Now if they could fix that Earthquake Travel Time Calculator one could ID a few that are missing.

Incoming 6.2 Kamchatka.

GFZ Potsdam

F-E Region: Off East Coast of Kamchatka
Time: 2013-05-19 18:44:13.4 UTC
Magnitude: 6.2
Epicenter: 160.14°E 52.25°N
Depth: 30 km
Status: M - manually revised

Well EMSC think it is Mag 6.0

USGS think it is 5.9

M5.9 - 132km SE of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, Russia

From GFZ we now know that Sex Kamchatskiy is on the East Coast of Kamchatka.

And hereby hangs a tale: '132km SE of' the sex cam does NOT indicate that the quake was under the sea. 'Off the coast' does, just as 'Near the coast' is on land - yup near the coast.

From the USGS phase data: Average of magnitudes: 5.93 based on 497 counts

This IS a mag 6

GFZ is showing the Mw value and EMSC and USGS are showing mb which translates to a Mag 6

mb - v - Mw

Tensor solutions are in from USGS. They are sticking with 5.9 Mw. I find that odd considering they first posted 5.9 mb.

These have been going on for some time by the way

This is what happens when you watch the Kam Chat ski

I see USGS have reduced it to 6.5 while EMSC are still at 6.8 and GFZ at 5.9 bless them!

I think they have not recovered from Eurovision

Germans lamented their unexpectedly poor showing at the Eurovision Song Contest, blaming Chancellor Angela Merkel's tough stance in the euro zone crisis for their failure to win any points from 34 of the 39 countries voting.
