Prime Minister Julia Gillard verbals mining magnate Gina Rinehart over Australian wages cut talks GINA Rinehart did NOT call for Australian wages to be cut to $2-a-day African levels. The Prime Minister's suggestion that she did was pure, malicious - and you'd have to say, only too typical - Gillard verballing. Rinehart didn't even call for wages in the resources sector that can easily top $150,000-a year to be cut by a single cent. Her only reference in either her commentary in Australian Resources and Investment magazine or her YouTube video to cutting wages, was a single passing reference to whether reducing the minimum wage would help small and medium businesses employ more people. Gillard's $2-a-day smear was simply ludicrous. Yes, Rinehart is an attractive hate figure. She makes a great political pinata for Gillard, her treasurer Wayne Swan, and assorted cronies in the media. www.heraldsun.com.au...

Here is a "nicely spun" rebuttal from I guess the main stream newspaper defending her actions

So she inherits tens of millions of dollars. Takes control of a billion dollar business that her father built; currently "earns" $2 million per hour. Proceeds to say that if you're poor/not wealthy then you're a lazy drunk. And ends it by saying you should work for $2 per day....
Ok I think my brain just melted.

$2 a day or hour, whatever...it's a ridiculously low number and it's what is being paid to hundreds of millions of people right now. But. It's not what Rinehart is saying Australians should be earning, it is what African competitors are paying their workers right now. Today.
All she has done is said the truth and the idiots lap up the rhetoric and spin like good little sheep.
Can you address my other points about QANTAS, call centers and the like?
Why would a call center pay someone $18/hour + super +sick leave + holidays when they can get someone in India to do the same job for $5/day?
It's a travesty!
But it's also what's best for the business.
Rinehart is right, along with the strong dollar, Australia is pricing itself out of a lot of markets.
If anyone can counter what she says without the name calling and pettiness, I'm all ears, right now though, "she's fat and ugly and rich and I hate her" just isn't cutting it.

Nice strawman argument.
It's not what I'm saying and you know it.
Clearly, you've never run or been involved with running a business, if you have, you'd understand the point she's making.
