World's richest woman calls for Australian workers to be paid $2 a day to compete with Africans

And the fact that many Africans live in poverty doesn't seem to factor in her equation...What a stupid thing to say! However, I assume she will then give away all her money (and food) to fall in line also? I don't know what its like in Australia, but had she made that comment in most other places she would be a dead woman walking.

It’d be poetic justice if, somehow, she went broke and lost the lot. Maybe some of those people she wants to hire for a pittance are killed on the job because safety is too expensive and their families sue the pants off her (but I’d much rather her pants stay firmly on). There’s more to life than work and money. She wouldn’t know this because she was born with a silver spoon and appears to have absolutely no idea about the real world. Utterly disgusting, caress person. Though to be honest, she probably isn’t saying pay people in Australia $2 a day because that is totally inept and would probably get you a can of coke in those remote locations where everything is more expensive. She’d probably suggest a figure like $40k a year, or a 75% wage cut.

She doesn’t own the minerals, all Australian’s do. These mining companies are as greedy as it gets and are ruining the landscape. One company wants to build a gas mining project on the Kimberly’s coast with projected revenues of around the $15b mark a year, yet offered the traditional land owners about $1b - which they accepted. Luckily, it’s created huge outrage, mainly due to the location being a whale sanctuary, so it’s on the back burner for now. I will say though that Australia would have to be the most expensive country in the world, surely. It is completely ridiculous here. Is there any wonder why retail is going bust when they charge twice the price for things like dvd’s and clothes than then what can be found on the internet? Ordinary mining people here, drillers and the like, earn around $120-150k a year - engineers upward of $200k - and they certainly deserve it. To be up in these remote locations for weeks on end, working 12-14 hour days in such difficult conditions and stifling heat would be very hard physically and mentally. They earn every dollar, and when this person makes around $25-30b in the last few years, perhaps they deserve a larger slice?

Sounds like a great Idea the America can import those good and we can have cheap stuff again. I love this lady.
Really tho why would she pay people anymore then she has too. I find all kinds of ways to keep MY MONEY!!!!!

Your title is misleading she never said Australians should make 2 dollars a day.What she said is this is the labor market there competing with.The reality is Australia has a low population and a high minimum wage.Australia's minimum wage is $15.96 and currently have about 5 percent unemployment.

Mining very tough job and there wages are very high. There labor market is so tight the average minor is making 108,000 a year. The Minerals Council of Australia estimates the country needs an additional 86,000 workers by 2020, to complement a current work force estimated at 216,000 They have such a problem recruiting miners companies are putting in recreation centers and other things into mining towns just to attract workers. Now Australia can stay competitive with Africa as long as 1 guy with heavy equipment can mine more ore the 200 guys with shovels. But if his wage gets too high then the advantage of automation is lost and per pound Africa wins.So shes not stupid the wages to minors are only expected to go up making in more difficult to compete.

Gina R. did not suggest that we import African Miners for $2 a day. That is simply a beat up by the Australian Labor Government and the rabid socialist left. They could not lie straight in bed.

Her statement was clear and concise. Her comment merely compared what workers in other countries were being paid by mining conglomerates and she indicated, 'this is what we have to try and compete against!'

Her point was that if we over tax our mining industry we may well find ourselves uncompetitive against such countries. We cannot reduce wages because of our socialist left policies that do not believe that the goose will ever stop laying golden eggs.

But even little Singapore drops its wages as soon as it becomes uncompetitive against some of its nearby tiger economies in Asia. Any country or business that wishes to remain profitable must cut its suit according to the cloth it has. That cloth for Australia is tax, cost of production and wages. That has to be balanced against the price it can negotiate with the purchaser, (who does, in the case of iron ore, have plenty of other places to shop at).

Of course there are many who are willing to believe 'balderdash' so, who am I to try and convince you otherwise? Tell a lie often enough and the great unwashed proletariat will believe anything.

The simple fact of global disparity of incomes for the actual hard workers and average joe's IS a major issue for any one who cares, probably not so much for those who have responded in the negative.

It must be really tough to be that rich in a minority (woman miner) and not know who your friends are, let alone the issues with your own family. She's probably tougher than most on here.

She grew up alongside her Dad and followed him around for years, learning the business from the ground up at some of the hottest and dirtiest places in Australia. She was the one who took the leases and actually turned into a going concern and the great employer it is to today. Not to me they aren't. They can keep telling themselves that but I'm sorry, I just see laziness and greed. That applies whether male or female.

Anyone can get fit. Anyone can eat correctly. Letting your body become so disgustingly obese is not natural and quite frankly, revolting. Coupled with the fact that this woman holds ridiculous amounts of money that is simply not required by a single human just adds to that disgust.

Having worked in 3rd world countries, you should see the looks on the faces of the starving when some lardy-pants comes strolling in.
