A society who thinks that gun-ownership is extremely, extremely important for personal liberty, freedom etc. must be somewhat "disturbed", to say it mildly. Your country is screwed up enough already in many ways, and i dont think that the issue of gun-ownership is anywhere remotely on top of the list what needs to be changed.

Furthermore, there are countries all over the planet witch much, much stricter gun-laws, and none of the people there feel like "our society has been destroyed"..or "our liberty has been taken" - just because they cannot get guns as easily as in the states. IN FACT - some of those countries eg. in EU are *way more* free than what you assume the US is.

This debate about "how oh so important" gun ownership is is a debate i would expect from some stupid rednecks in a bar down in TN - but keep worrying and keep being delusional how extremely important guns are for the US society to work "properly". LOL and facepalm.

Actually, no. I happened upon your thread as the most expedient way of getting my message out. I am actually in an odd sort of situation, myself. I have poor Internet access, as I am high in the mountains, living in a small resort town. Just moved here last week, actually. I don't post much on the net, but I used to over at ATS's nemesis, GLP. But now, due to my change in location to a resort town, I have found myself inextricably BANNED from GLP. :/ I have gone by a few names there though, like Revolution, Mushamman, and Daladim, among a few others. I left a trail under those names. If you know how to search, you can see I am able to back up my words here with at least a bit of consistency, going back to at least 2007-08. I am now posting here, because I know this website is at least as popular as GLP. I signed up for an account here just tonight in hopes I could create a thread. I'm in the same country as yourself and own FAR more firearms than this. One of the most asinine things about Canadian gun laws other than it's complete and total failure to combat gun crime, is that an AR-15 falls under the "restricted weapons" category because the AR-15 model is a "military" style rifle, not because of the caliber or velocity of the round it uses. Anyone wishing to see just how ineffective Canadian gun laws truly are, take a look at inner city gun crimes in cities like Toronto where the majority of honest law abiding gun owners like myself don't even live. However, when liberal simpletons decide to get together to try and increase gun laws here in Canada, it's people like myself who pay the price, not the "certain minority groups" who kill each other in record numbers each year using stolen or smuggled handguns.

You know what's disturbing to me? People who have blind faith in their governments. The founding fathers knew a government's capacity for corruption and tyranny; the second amendment was put in place for the purpose of keeping such governments in check.

I am a vociferous supporter of the right to bear arms because it's one of the few things keeping the government from walking all over us. Frankly, I'm not comfortable with having the government monopolize all of the firepower in my country. Whatever the government's intentions, there exists the possibility of such a monopoly being exploited much to the people's detriment. Our government has a history of lying to the public and misusing its power. It certainly isn't virtuous enough an institution to deserve that kind of power, my friend.
