A nut without a gun wouldn't have gunned down 14 people. Think before you waste some space. It is obvious as it sounds. No guns no people gunned. Your argumentation is invalid.

On the other hand if everyone in the theater was packing a gun the people could have gunned down their attacker rather than being forced to stampede out of the way like panicked livestock.

There were more victims because the only guns in the theater were the attackers.

If you outlaw guns only outlaws will have them.

I thought it has been reported he went outside and waited for the police to apprehend him.

I read the police were already there in the parking lot for crowds and traffic because of the premier audience being so large.

He pretty much ran outside into the arms of the police doing traffic duty.

The suspect reportedly fired shots inside the theater and fled to the parking lot and was confronted by police already at the theater for crowd control.”
www.9news.com...

So its not like they went running quickly and bravely toward the sound of gunfire.

They just happened to be there and happened to figure this dude in body armor was worth stopping after the fact.

Look around you. Look at this very forum.

There are a lot more Americans now, who want to be safe, than who want to be free. Liberty is becoming perceived as something quaint and anachronistic; and libertarians are generally not seen as being all that far from terrorists themselves.

We don't need freedom. If you care about your rights, you are obviously mentally ill. The more rational, calm, mature thing to do is simply to allow the police and military to be the only ones who are allowed to carry guns, and to allow the pre-established, pre-recognised scientific authorities to be the only ones who are allowed to think, or pass opinions on anything.

We aren't qualified or authorised to carry guns, to read, to think, or to do anything other than work, and maybe if we're lucky, watch reality TV while mindlessly shovelling industrial waste marketed as food into our mouths, for a couple of hours every night before we sleep, in order to go back to the salt mines the next morning.

We're just ants. We don't exist for any reason, other than to do what we're told.

I wasn't joking about dead kids, or dead people...I was joking about the movie being so bad that it would drive someone to do this, don't you guys understand what a punchline is?

It would have turned out completely different if the gunman had gone to a screening of 'Bridesmaids'. He would have just shot himself.

Were it is true that no gun equals no gun wounds, it is untrue that no gun equals no chance of mass casualties:

Of knife single mass murderers that are known to us, (11 at present), two in the USA, one in Germany, most have been in Asia, and most have targeted children in schools. Similar to the copycat active killer murders by firearms, the frightening factor with mass murder by edged weapons is that 25% of these occurred in a two-month period between March and May 2010, (China). Of the 11 mass murders by a single person using a knife known to us, there were 46 murdered, and 139 wounded. The average mass murder/attempt knife incident resulted in 16 casualties. In 92% of the cases, the specific weapon of choice was a knife. The remaining 8% was by a single actor with a meat cleaver who caused 9 murders and 12 wounded.

Crowded theater, the dark, a man with armor, and people generally freezing in the face of danger and the confusion and tear gas all lead up that he could have killed just as many with a knife, or sword, or axe, or a can of gasoline and a match.

I do not see how a mass killing in that theater could have been prevented with gun control.

Unfortunately, even with tight gun control, illegal firearms will still be imported, brought and sold on the black market.

I imagine it would look an awful lot like this: news.nationalpost.com...

But with an added colorful indicator for firearms on top of the coc aine, meth and marijuana indicators.

Just to say, a witness on Sky earlier was saying that when they got outside the cinema, he heard an air force guy from a local air base was saying that not all of his group had made it out.

Thats all they said on the matter. Could mean many things, some off duty forces guys got caught up in this, maybe they got injured, maybe he lost track of them in the chaos or if they'd gone to hospital.

Not sure if that would warrant someone from the military being called, i'd imagine off duty personnel would be treated the same as civvies?

three in 2011, for 12 months, versus 3 in 6 months in 2012 for the US... but sure, half as much is close...

And how many so far in 2012 in Europe?

ANd per capita gun use in the US per Europe? Number of privately owned firearms per capita? Statistically, a privately owned gun in the US is less likely to be used in a crime, per capita, in Europe. In addition, Europe has extremely stricter gun laws and even total bans but they only have a half as much mass shootings? Does not seem that total gun control is that effective.

Theaters are not regulated by the Federal Government. It will still be under LE security.

I know people love to smear the TSA whenever they can, but no matter how badly you don't like them, you can't force them into areas they don't regulate.

OMG Someone decided to just start shooting people? Guess we really need to encourage the masses to start carrying a firearm when in public at all times so these situations don't happen. Oh wait no we don't, we want to use it as an excuse to further advocate gun control, keep the public in fear, and make them think they need the governments protection to survive.

What's faster? A group of armed civilians directly responding to the threat with overwhelming force, or waiting for the local police to get there and figure out what you already know, and try to stop it?

Wake up people, it's time to start considering the fact that you are your greatest protector not the government.

Let me preface this by saying I agree with the right to bear arms.

I think if people would have had guns in that theater and responded there would be more victims. Unless they had a Desert Eagle or some other type of cumbersome high calibre rifle (who would take that into a theater?). The shooter was armed to the teeth with body armor on. Not to mention all the panic that ensued and innocent people running around.

Unless someone in the theater was specially trained, a marksman, and knew exactly where to hit him, he would have taken the shots, and just retaliated.

I'm not advocating against guns at all, but in this case there was not much the victims could have done because the shooter had the element of surprise, body armor, tear gas, a gas mask, all black in a dark theater, an assault rifle, shotgun, and hand guns.

I'll show this video with well trained cops with handguns and rifles they had to borrow from a gun shop, out gunned, not being able to stop well armed bank robbers. What could have one or two people with handguns in a theater could have done?

[ETA: please ignore the title of this video]

A witness stated a person in the front row got a phone call, went toward the exit, then the gun man entered. Could be someone else helped. Or did someone turn his mind control on.

ETA - Diversion call to himself so people were not suspicious of him leaving toward the door
